Editorial

t gives me immense joy to bring out the inaugural issue of the Global Journal of English Language and Literature (GJELL). The journal was sometime

conceived, three months back, in consultation with few of my colleagues and teachers. English Studies have touched and have been touched by numerous other disciplines and fields of study. It was indeed necessary to have a common platform for scholarly interaction among the teachers and scholars of English across the globe in order to undertake insightful research and dissemination of the same to the entire world. It is needless to state that the low cost of production through ICT has made this project possible and viable. Researches, in Humanities and Social Sciences, aim to identify problems and find their solution by empirical quantitative and qualitative methods. Global Journal of English Language and Literature is strongly expected to be instrumental to meet the aforesaid end: by encouraging the teachers and the researchers to explore and expa nd new as well as novel avenues of dynamic and effective research and perspectives. The present issue features five articles. In the first article, Dylan Thomas A Refusal To Mourn The Death, By Fire, Of a Child in London: An Ecocritical Study, Arindam Mukherjee explores the divine and cosmic kinship between Man and Nature from the ecocritical perspective justifying the relevance of Dylan Thomas poetic world in the modern context. In the second article, Eco-aesthetics in The God of Small Things, Ambika Bhala and Manmohan Singh, attempt to trace eco-aesthetics in Arundhati Roys nove l, The God of Small Things. In the third article, Gerund: An Overview, Susanta Kumar Bardhan studies the structure of gerund in Bangla and English and shows how far they are similar and dissimilar in terms of structure within the syntactic structure. 2 Literature, reads Sarah Grohams Bad Daughter, in order to investigate the link between contemporary American literature and Islamic views. The last article is Indianness in Kanthapura by Prashant Mishra examines the extent till which Kanthapura reflects Indian sensibility in its the thematic treatment. I wish the readers of our journal will appreciate the new ideas which incite new ideas for research and debate; which in turn will keep the wheel of research moving. I congratulate the contributors for their high spirit and good work. I would record my gratitude to the Joint Editor, Prof. Susanta Kumar Bardhan and all the members of the Editorial Board for their trust and unfailing support at every moment of this production.
