ABSTRACT Security is of prime concern in our day-to-day life. Every one wants to be as much secure as possible. This access control forms a vital link in the security chain. A microcontroller based security lock is presented in this project as access control system. It allows only authorized persons to access a restricted area. It is most suited for corporate offices, ATMs and home security etc applications. The system consists of a microcontroller , a numeric key pad. The kekypad is fixed outside the entry door with solenoid to lock and open the door. When an authorized person enters with a valid password using the keypad, the door is unlocked for a short period. The door is locked again to prevent further access. If the password is entered three times wrongly in a row, the code lock algorithm enters into infinite loop and prevents further access. In such situation the lock can be released by 10 digit administrator password. This function thwarts any attempt by hackers to quickly try a large number of codes in a sequence. If the user forgets his password it can be recovered using 10 digit master password. The secret code is stored in the EEPROM and can be changed. A buzzer is provided for audio acknowledgement of key impression.
