Wednesday March 13, 2013 9.30am 1pm Merthyr Uniting Church 52 Merthyr Road, New Farm All parents have a number of decisions to make when their child is starting school or changing schools small schools; large schools; state schools; private schools - and each parent tries to make a choice that will work for that particular child and their future and their family unit as a whole. Parents of children with disability are faced with further decisions about whether to send their child to a regular school or whether to choose a special school or a regular school with a special education unit. As families are advised from every direction about what is best for their child, they are often left confused as they try to weigh up the pros and cons and understand what inclusive education is; if it would be best for their child and whether it is worth pursuing. About the Topic: This workshop is designed to give families a chance to explore with an experienced educator what inclusive education is, and what it is not, and to compare the research evidence for inclusive education and special education. Dr Jackson will also share examples and strategies of how children with disabilities can be successfully welcomed learn and participate in regular classes and schools. Who should attend? Parents who are interested in exploring what inclusive education may offer their son or daughter. Interested supporters are also welcome.
