Recap: 2012 Casa Grande Arizona reunion

Benny and Christine put on a memorable 3 days of family enjoyment. Some visited the Casa Grande Ruins, Rooster Cogburns Ostrich Farm, the Franklin Car museum in Tucson and ventured down to Tombstone and a casino. We were also treated to home cooking like back home, missing only the humidity and coconut trees! Lake Jackson area information

Population: 27,451. Time zone is CST. Lake Jackson was incorporated March 14, 1944 and built as a planned community to support a new plant for the Dow Chemical Company. The Brazosport area consists of eight cities: Clute, Freeport, Jones Creek, Lake Jackson, Oyster Creek Quintana, Richwood, and Surfside Beach. Average July temperatures: high 91, low 77, humidity is 84%.

Day trip to Galveston!

Galveston Island, Texas With semitropical Island weather, visitors can enjoy casual strolling on the 13-mile Seawall or shopping along the Strand National Historic Landmark District which is comprised of 36 square blocks and a wide variety of shops, antique stores, restaurants and art galleries. Pier 21, off Harborside Drive, offers shops, portside restaurants and a maritime gallery. Galveston offers 13 historic homes and museums. All of the historic homes predate The 1900 Storm, which took the lives of 6,000 people. Historic home fans should also tour through the East End Historic District, a designated historic district full of beautifully restored homes and mansions. The most popular attraction, other than the beach, is Moody Gardens, which features an Aquarium Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid, Discovery Museum Pyramid, IMAX Ridefilm Theater, a 3D IMAX Theater, and Palm Beach. Nearby is the Lone Star Flight Museum, home of the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame housing one of the finest collections of restored aircraft and aviation exhibits in the nation. Other one-of-a-kind museums include the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum and the Texas Seaport Museum & 1877 Tall Ship Elissa.

Sea Center, 300 Medical Drive, Lake Jackson TX, admission is FREE
HOURS: 9 AM4PM. Sea Center Texas is a marine aquarium, fish hatchery and nature center operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). The sites visitor center educates through interpretive displays, a touch tank and aquariums depicting native Texas habitats including a salt marsh, jetty, reef and open Gulf exhibits. There is no food available for sale at the facility. that promote the wise use and conservation of Texas' marine resources. The facility operates one of the three TPWD marine hatcheries located on the Texas coast that produce juvenile red drum and spotted speckled trout to stock in Texas bays. The hatchery has the capability to produce up to 15 million juvenile fish each year. The centers wetland area is part of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Over 150 species of birds have been identified at the site. The wetland consists of a one-acre salt marsh and a three-acre freshwater marsh. Damselflies, dragonflies, butterflies and frogs are frequently seen just off the boardwalk. A small outdoor pavilion provides a quiet resting adjacent to the butterfly and hummingbird gardens.

The Gulf aquarium houses nurse sharks, large red drum, gray snapper, Atlantic spadefish, and the state record moray eel. The center offers a variety of educational programs

The Center for the Arts & Sciences, Clute, Texas

Open 10 am4 pm, the Center is a cultural and educational complex that features an art gallery, a science museum, a planetarium and two performance theaters. The art gallery exhibits work by international, regional and local artists. The Center is home to the longest running community theater on the Texas Gulf Coast and offers five major productions each season performing in either the arena or proscenium theater. The museum contains the largest seashell collection in the South along with fossils, including dinosaurs and mammoth bones. Other exhibits feature Texas coastal wildlife and a unique jade and ivory collection. The planetarium has shows every Tuesday. Visitors can also view images from the Hubble telescope in the lobby through ViewSpace.
