Proverbs 31: 10-31 The Proverbs Woman I was raised by this passage of scriptures. This is and always has been my moms favorite passage of scriptures and she taught it to me in word and actions every day of my life. I heard these scriptures so much in my life that I can still to this day recite them word for word from memory. The proverbs woman is a hard example to live up to.

Chapter One

I thought I was the perfect proverbs woman years ago when I received a very loud awakening from God when my daughter was a toddler. Personally, I like to have the religious channel playing on the television while I work, so I can listen to preaching and praise throughout the day. This one particular day I was going about my day cooking, cleaning and taking care of my daughter. The first program started and the preacher was talking about showing respect to your husband. I already respected my husband so I tuned it out. The next program started and this sermon was once again talking about how important it is to show respect to your husband. Humph, I thought maybe they have a theme their using on todays programming. Several programs and several hours later they were still talking about respecting your husband. I looked up and said Lord I know you use different ways to get through to people but it has been six hours, this woman must be really thick headed You know that small, still voice people talk about when God speaks to them? Let me tell you, I dont. The Voice I heard was very loud and answered Yes she is very thick headed okay at this

point I wasnt sure what to make of this. He could not possibly be talking to me! After a few minutes I began to argue with God (by the way, you cant win an argument with God) I responded with, I always treat my husband with respect. This argument continued through the rest of my day and well into the night. I then informed God that when Vince came home I would ask him if he thought I have ever been disrespectful. I was going to prove God wrong. We sat down to dinner later that night and I told my husband about my day, about all the programming. The whole time he was smiling. I then told him about my argument with God and I asked him if he thought I was disrespectful toward him. Waiting for an of course not, you are a wonderful wife. Instead I got this, do you want an honest answer. What! I couldnt believe this! Sometimes when you are being sarcastic it comes across as being disrespectful he said. I was sure I was being gained up on, and in no way had I ever been disrespectful toward my husband.

I vowed to pay very careful attention to everything I said and how I said it. Talk about conviction, I didnt make it through the night without catching myself with a sarcastic tone. I monitored this for a couple weeks and realized just how often I was doing this. It has been a hard road and I am still very careful to watch both my attitude and my mouth every day. I will admit it has been a struggle but it has improved my relationship with the Lord and with my husband. Respecting my husband more has made our relationship stronger. These scriptures have taught me many things. A Proverbs woman takes care of her family and her home without complaining. A proverbs woman is the first one up and the last one to bed every day. A proverbs woman lends her hand to the less fortunate. A proverbs woman is strong, encouraging, she does not waste time, and she is hard-working, wise, joyful, respectful and compassionate.
