Each individual is different from every other individual. Primary concern of guidance is the individual in his/her social setting. The attitude and personal perceptions of the individual are the basis on which he/she acts. The individual generally acts to enhance his/her perceived self. The individual has the innate ability to learn and can be helped to make choices that will lead to self direction consistently with social improvement. The individual needs continuous guidance process from early childhood through adulthood. At times an individual may need the information and personalized assistance by competent personnel. NEED FOR GUIDANCE The need for guidance is universal.it is not confined to a few individuals or few areas.it is needed because of : Unstatic and complex nature of the society : rapid urbanization and industrialization have made the society very complex and intricate ,leading to a number of issues and problems.

Welfare of the individual and society : Providing better scope for the individual to improve and express himself/herself as an able person ,thus helping the individual in self development and self- realization. Changed industrial and educational pattern of the country : The problems of selection of subjects, vocations of formidable problem, and the education and industrial system in the absence of the guidance service will not progress satisfactory. Conversation of human energy :

Helps the individual to make the right use of leisure and prevent social problems.it also act as an instrument for the qualitative improvement of education and national development. Academic growth : Helps in the development of abilities and skills consistent with varying capacities of the individual and removal of subjects matter difficulties . SUMMARY Guidance counsellors offer students guidancethe discussion and information students need to make wise decisions regarding educational and career opportunities. Guidance counsellors also offer students counselling the help and support students need in dealing with personal stress and problems of adjustment. Although it is useful for purposes of description to deal with guidance and counselling as if they were separate activities, in practice they often overlap.
