POMEGRANATE IN THE BIBLE

6 And thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in His ways, and to fear Him. 7 For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths, springing forth in valleys and hills; 8 a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey; 9 a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass. 10 And thou shalt eat and be satisfied, and bless the LORD thy God for the good land which He hath given thee.

Recently, Elaine Jaffe, challenged to all Pomegranate Guild members to execute a wall hanging using, as the basis for each design, one of 19 Bible verses containing the word "pomegranate". In case you missed the challenge, but are inspired by the idea of including a pomegranate in a future project. Here's the listing of "pomegranate" citations: Exodus 28:33 On its hem make a pomegranate of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, all around the hem, with bells of gold between them all around. Exodus 39:24-25 And they made upon the hem of the robe pomegranates of blue and purple and

scarlet and twined linen. And they made bells of pure gold and put the bells between the pomegranates upon the hem of the robe, round about the pomegranates. Numbers 13:23 They reached the wadi Eshcol, and there they cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes--it had to be borne on a carrying frame by two of them--and some pomegranates and figs. Numbers 20:5 Why did you make us leave Egypt to bring us to this wretched place, a place with no grain or figs or vines or pomegranates? There is not even water to drink! Deuteronomy 8:8 A land of wheat and barley, of vines, figs, and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey. Samuel 14:2 Now Saul was staying on the outskirts of Gibeah, under the pomegranate tree of Migron, and the troops with him numbered about 600. 1 Kings 7:20 So also the captials upon the two columns extended above and next to the bulge that was beside the network. There were 200 pomegranates in rows around the top of the second capital. 1 Kings 7:42 The four hundred pomgranates for the two pieces of network, two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two globes of the capitals upon the columns. 2 Kings 25:17 The one column was eighteen cubits high. It had a bronze capital above it; the height of the capital was three cubits, and there was meshwork [decorated] with pomegranates about the capital, all made of bronze. And the like was true of the other column with its meshwork. 2 Chronicles 3:16 He made chainwork in the inner Sanctuary and set it on top of the columns; he made a hundred pomegranates and set them in the chainwork. 2 Chronicles 4:13 The four hundred pomgranates for the two pieces of network, two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two globes of the capitals upon the columns. (same as 1 Kings 7:42) Song of Songs 4:3 Your lips are like a crimson thread, Your mouth is lovely. Your brow behind your veil [Gleams] like a pomegranate split open. Song of Songs 4:13 Your limbs are an orchard of pomegranates And of all luscious fruits, Of henna and of nard -Song of Songs 6:7 Your brow behind your veil [Gleams] like a pomegranate split open. Song of Songs 7:13 Let us go early to the vineyards;

Let us see if the vine has flowered, If its blossoms have opened, If the pomegranates are in bloom. There I will give my love to you. Song of Songs 8:2 I would lead you, I would bring you To the house of my mother, Of her who taught me -I would let you drink of the spiced wine, Of my pomegranate juice. Jeremiah 52:22 It had a bronze capital above it; the height of the capital was five cubits, and there was meshwork [decorated] with pomegranates about the capital, all made of bronze. And so for the second column, also with pomegranates. Joel 1:12 The vine has dried up, The fig tree withers, Pomegranate, palm, and apple-All the trees of the field are sear. And joy has dried up Among men. Haggai 2:19 While the seed is still in the granary, and the vine, fig tree, pomegranate, and olive tree have not yet borne fruit. For from this day on I will send blessings.
