Tasaday: The Lost Tribe

(Reflection Paper)

The Tasaday tribe incident was the result of the noble savage attitude toward a newly discovered tribe that came during the late 1960s resulting from the wars and the need for peace in the world according to Headland. He also said that the Tasaday were a hoax when viewed as a group of paid actors that paraded around the forest wearing leaves.So that means that, if we will look at it in our views, the Tasaday were really good actors and actresses, if its the case. He said they were authentic if they were viewed as a forest-dwelling group of people caught in the midst of the media. Anthropologists instantly worshipped the Tasaday because they were seen as a new area of study which becomes the focus of the curious people how this group was form out of the civilized people at the 70th century. Everyone thought this tribe was unique because the tribe had no words for war and hate in its society and they were living like the Stoneage people.They adapted to living in the forest and created their own culture. I was shocked when I had viewed the video clip about these Tasaday people. I thought that it was the Stoneage Era and I cant imagine how they could capture and made a promising documentation about these men and women. But as I concentrated on the video, I realized that it was located in Mindanao, here in the Philippines and was dated 1971. Its just unimaginable because they were really look alike with that of the primitive men. How could it be a hoax? Where in fact, they were really living like the primitive men. They used stone tools, they ate wild fruits, they climb trees and they dont know how to plant corn, tobacco and root crops. They dont have any idea of the outside world; they were nave and innocent beyond compare. In my own opinion, they were not just acting around and giving tricks because as what I had observed on the video, they really lived that way and that was their way of survival and their way of living in the rainforest. I strongly believed that even if they belong to the Manobo tribe and the Tboli, and their group just escaped to have a safe place to live from war or anything that will cause destruction, it is still a question how they live and how they survive with that kind of lifestyle and environment. It is good to know that according to the survey, they dont find practice adultery and killing of other people or enemy on the place. That means that these Tasaday people were just living a simple, safe and harmonious life together with their families and loved ones the best way they know how to do it. Their history may never become clear, but their future with the Manobo tribe proves to be promising.
