In harmonia progressio
Institut Teknologi Bandung, which was founded during the colonial era in 1920, is the first and largest scientific and technical university in Indonesia. ITB was established on March 2- 1959. Now, ITB consists of 12 faculties & school offering courses and research in sciences, technologies and fine arts. It enrolls more than 20.000 students with annual intake of around 4000 new students enrolling from undergraduate program to post-doctoral program. THES (times higher education supplement) report ranked Institut Teknologi Bandung in the TOP 100 World Bank of Technological University. ITB is located in the northern area of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Surrounded by the enjoyable green hills at 720 meter above sea level, Bandung is granted with mild weather all over the year ranging between 18o and 29oC. Since early 20th century, Bandung has been dedicated to be the home base of the development of sciences and advance technology in Indonesia. Source : www.itb.ac.id Office : Jl. Master Degree Program The master degree program in Chemical Engineering-ITB consist of: Regular Program o Process Research o Process Engineering Joint Master Program This program cooperates with Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Holland, since 2000. The education consists of 2 semesters in ITB and 2 semesters in RuG. The graduates will be granted with two degrees, M.T. from ITB and M.Sc. from RuG.
The education in master degree is designed to produce a chemical engineering masters with these following basic competences. Able to integrate the basic science of chemical engineering and chemical engineering science to solve complex problems in the field of chemical engineering. Able to analyze and solve problems chemical engineering field using appropriate methods. Capable of designing an experiment, identify problems, solve them systematically through an 7
experiment and interpret the data obtained from experiments in order to solve the problem. The curriculum designed for master degree consists of minimum 36 credits which taken for 4 semesters.
Doctoral Degree Program Doctoral education programs conducted at Chemical Engineering-ITB aim to generate doctorates in chemical engineering who are able to develop competence in chemical engineering science concepts that are useful for the development of chemical engineering field through a fundamental review. The curriculum designed for doctoral degree consists of minimum 45 credits which taken for 6 semesters.
Teaching Staff
Chemical Engineering Department has 35 teaching staff in different major field of which devided into three division : 1. Design and Development of Chemical Engineering Processes This division studies the development of chemical engineering science, catalysts, separation, purification processes and computational processes. 2. Design and Development Chemical Engineering Products This division focuses on designing and developing innovative products based on local resources. These products consist of fermented food, feed, beverage, medicine, microbial enzymes, bioethanol, organic acids, polymers that can be degraded, and other chemicals. In addition, this study focuses on the purification water, domestic waste and waste management industry. In its activities, the group reviews our expertise in the application of the principles of science and engineering in the processing of a material using catalyst or biocatalyst to produce goods and services 3. Energy and Processing System of Chemical Engineering This division studies the development of energy engineering science and the development of bio-fuels as alternative fuel motor vehicles.
Research and Development (Karmel) One of three main thesis that must be resolved by the student is research. Research is carried out by a group of two students. More then 60 research topic opened every year. Each research usually take 1,5-2 years to finished. Research and report writing take 5 credits in undergraduate study. These research topics include wide range field of studies : catalyst, renewable resources, food additive synthetic, food ptechnology, separation technology, bioprocess, fat and oil, gasification, waste reuse, fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, material science and others.
