Abstract
Most of us spend about 90%of our time indoors, so minimizing the use of harmful chemicals in our homes, offices and schools is important to keep the air we breathe healthy and constructed surfaces we live on free of irritants and toxins. Besides being expensive, store-brought cleaners contain a number of chemicals. These chemicals can be hazardous to our health and are not necessary to have a clean home. Making our own household cleaners saves money and ensures the ingredients are natural.

This study entitled EFFICACY OF USED PLASTICS, CANDLES IN MAKING POLISHING AGENT aims to produce an environmental friendly polishing agent we can use in our home. We can easily make our own natural and inexpensive polishing agent that works as well as commercial version. Making our own household cleaners saves money and ensures the ingredients are available.

There are only three main ingredients used in this study; a used candle, used plastics and kerosene.

The study shows that making our homemade polishing agent will benefit us a lot aside from saving money, but it is also good for our health since it does not contain any harmful chemicals.

DATA

A. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Commercial polishing agent is full of many chemicals which we may not feel bringing into our home. Among the worst chemicals used can cause liver and kidney damage if inhaled over extended periods. Some can cause asthma and cancer. All of us know that weve been experiencing a problem on waste disposal. Garbage is everywhere. Used plastics were scattered everywhere. To answer these problems we are implementing R.A. 9003 known as Ecological Solid Waste Management. Plastics can be re-using or recycled. To give answers to these problems, researchers find some ways on how to make this be useful again. The researchers were encouraged to make a homemade polishing agent out of used candles, plastics and kerosene.

B. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM This research study aims to produce a homemade polishing agent out of used available materials and environmental friendly. The study also aims to answer the following questions: 1. Does used candles, plastics can be ingredients in making polishing agents?

2. Is a homemade polishing agent safe and more economical than the commercial one? 3. Is kerosene safe to our health? 4. Is homemade polishing agent works as well as the commercial ones?

C. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY Since commercial polishing agents contain harmful chemical that destroy our health they are not safe to use. Among the chemicals found are: Cresol, which can cause liver and kidney damage if inhaled over extended period of times. Formaldehyde, which was been linked to everything from asthma, to reproduce problem, and to cancer. Other hazardous ingredients in traditional polishing agents are nitrobenzene, perchloroethylene, phenol, toluene and xylene. The researcher wants to produce a homemade polishing agent which is made up of natural ingredients that is safe for ones health and economical yet it works well as the commercial ones. D. SCOPE AND LIMITATION The research titled EFFICACY OF USED PLASTICS, CANDLES IN MAKING POLISHING AGENT used only three main ingredients which are: used candles, plastic and kerosene. The focus of this study is to produce a homemade polishing agent, which is safe for our health and economical. This study was conducted at Princess Mae Batallones Residence on September 10, 2011. E. DEFINITION OF TERMS 1. Wax- in this study, any numerous mixtures that differ from facts in being harder and less greasy and that are principally constituted

from higher fatty acids in the form of esters like beeswax and paraffin. 2. Mineral Oil- in this study, it is any oil of mineral origin, especially petroleum. 3. Melt- in this study, to become liquefied by the action of the heat. 4. Heat- In this study, to become hot or hotter. 5. Mix- in this study, to prepare by putting ingredients together. METHODOLOGY

Materials:
cup crushed candle 1 cup kerosene 1 cup used plastics cut into small pieces Charcoal stove Tin can Wooden spoon Molder

Procedures:
1. Prepare all the needed materials: used candle, plastics and kerosene. Crushed the used candle and cut the plastics into small pieces. 2. Place cup of crushed candle into a tin can. Melt at medium heat for one to four minutes. Remove once the wax is melted. 3. Add 1 cup of kerosene to the melted wax. Stir the mixture slowly using a wooden spoon. Mix the used plastic into the mixture and put a cover. Heat the mixture for additional minute until the plastic is melted. Remove the tin can from heat. 4. Allow the mixture to cool but not solidify. The mixture should be fluid enough to pour into a molder but not so hot it cannot be

handled. Pour the mixture into a molder. Keep in a cool dry place until use.
