Chapter 1: - Creating and Managing Points

The reference of any civil engineering project is the simple point. Most commonly, points are used to identify the location of existing features, topography, such as ground shots; or information, such as road geometry points. However, points can be used for much more. This chapter will both focus on traditional point uses and introduce ideas to apply the dynamic power of point editing, labeling, and grouping to other applications. Creating points in AutoCAD Civil 3D can be explained as follows. The Options for Creating points can be selected from Home Tab under Create Ground Data Submenu in Ribbon as shown below: -

1. Select the points option from Home Tab. 2. Select create points - miscellaneous then select manual.

3. In the command line it asks to Please specify a location for the new point click on the work area on your screen to select the position of the point. 4. After clicking on the work area to give the position to the point. In the command line Enter a point description say we are giving Point A. 5. Hit Enter after giving the point description to enter the point elevation say 50

6. A new point will be created and can be visualize on your work area as under: -

7. Again to add a new point follow the above steps again i.e. click on the work area wherever the point is required, specify the point description and the elevation of that particular point. 8. After entering the above details new point will be created as shown.

9. The new point is created as shown in the figure above.

10. Follow the same steps again to make as many number of points required. 11. After creating the numbers of points required, press the Esc key on your keyboard to exit from the particular command.

12. The above figure shows the various points created by following the above steps. This is how to create the points in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Now you will learn to change the position of those points. To change the position of the points follow the steps below: 1. Firstly, choose the point that you want to move from its position. 2. Take your cursor on the grip of that point as shown: -

3. After placing the cursor on the grip of that particular point you can see the Move point option. Simply click on the Move Point option.

4. Now click on the new location of that particular point as per the requirement.
