a)ii) when a pressure of 20.7 MN/m2 is applied to 100 liters of a liquid its volume decreases by one litre.Find the bulk modulus of the liquid and identify this liquid. a)iii)A 1.9 mm diameter tube is inserted into an unknown liquid whose density is 960 kg/m3,and it is observed that the liquid rises 5mm in the tube,making a contact angle of 15.Determinethe surface tension of the liquid. (OR) b)i)A horizontal venturimeter with inlet and thorat diameters 20 cm and 10 cm respectively is used to measure the flow of water.The reading of differential manometer connected to inlet and thorat is 15cm of mercury.Determine the flow rate.Take Cd=0.98 (8)

b)ii)An orifice meter consisting of 10 cm orifice in a 25cm diameter pipe has co-efficient=0.65.The pipe delivers oil of specific gravity 0.8.The pressure difference between two sides of orifice is 80 cm of mercury column.Calculate flow rate in lit/sec. (8)

14)a)i)A pipeline 60cm in diameter bifurcates at as Y-junction into two branches 40 cm and 30 cm in diameter.If the rate of flow in the main pipe is 1.5 m3/sec,and the mean velocity of flow in the 30 cm pipe is 7.5 m/sec,determine the rate of flow in the 40cm pipe. a)ii)Derive the energy equation and state the assumptions made while deriving the equation. (OR) b) Two reservoirs,whose water levels differ by 20m are connected with a compound pipeline consisting of three pipes in series.Pipe of 200mmdiameter is connected to upper reservoir and pipe of 300 mm diameter is connected to lower reservoir.Middle pipe is 150 mm diameter.All pipes are 100m long with frictional factors 0.023,0.024 and 0.025 respectively.Consider all losses, find rate of flow of water and velocity in each pipe. 15)a)i)A pipe increase in diameter suddenly from 12cm to 22 cm if the discharge of water through the pipe is 120 lit/sec,determine the loss of head due to sudden enlargement of cross sectional area.Also determine the difference of pressure between two sections of the pipe line. (8)
