Why? Often we can measure the rate at which something is changing such as the growth of a population or the speed of a moving object. We can use derivatives to model these rates. On the other hand, in order to estimate the size of the population or position of the moving object, we need to be able to use the rate to find what is known as an antiderivative. This activity explores the concept of antiderivatives.

The U.S. dt census determined that the county's population in 2005 was 226,992. Find a model for Horry County's population and use it to predict the population in 2012. Analyze: Is it necessary that you know what the population of Horry County in 2005 was? Explain why or why not.
