Dear Colleagues, Diabetes mellitus has become a public health problem all over the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) estimate, at least 171 million people are presently suffering from diabetes and this number is expected to rise to 366 million by the year 2030. This has been reflected by the recent WHO Declaration on diabetes as an epidemic in developing countries. The major increase in diabetic population would be seen in the Asian developing countries. The Asian Network of Research on Antidiabetic Plants (ANRAP) was established with the aim of coordinating research efforts in the field of antidiabetic plant materials with the enormous natural resources and herbal wealth of the Asian subcontinent. ANRAP has its secretariat based in Dhaka, at the Bangladesh Institute for Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM), a WHO Collaborating Center for Research in Diabetes. ANRAP organizes seminars, workshop and symposia in the relevant fields in diabetes research. The Seminar aims to create a forum for discussion about the recent status of research and drug development to fight against diabetes. As a part of this series the 7th International Seminar on 'Prevention & Management of Diabetes: Prospects & Challenges' is going to be held on 22-24 March 2013 at the Nepal Academy Hall, Kathmandu, Nepal. In these deliberations eminent scientists and leading diabetologists as well as young researchers from different parts of Nepal and abroad will participate. The Seminar will definitely help us move a step forward for winning over the maladies of diabetes. We cordially welcome you to participate in this Seminar and to make it a success.
