Apparently before Bingham's arrival, Enrique Palma, Gabino Sanchez and Agustn Lizarraga had discovered the site, leaving their names engraved into a rock on July 14th, 1901, yet did not spread word to the outside world after their arrival. maps from as early as 1874 that show references to the area. He used the locations of these items to point to a specific area where he might find where Tut had been buried. Finally, after five years of excavation, these clues finally led him to uncover the undisturbed tomb of the child King of the 18th Dynasty, Egypt
