Exam and Test

Exam 120 minutes Closed-book Covering all of the content of the course Test 90 minutes Closed-book Covering contents from week 1 to week 7
Electrical Machinery - Lecture 1 4

Mini design project

Design a control system of electrical motor for a particular practical application (e.g automatic sliding door, lift). Students work in group of three. Each group will be allocated a type of motor to design the control system. In week 2, each group will present the particular control system for a specific application with the assigned motor.
Electrical Machinery - Lecture 1 5

Objectives of Mini Design Project

Given a specific relevant application, Describe correctly the impact of electric machines on modern society. Using the PERT and GRANTT chart , demonstrate feasible schedule and tracking of the progress of a project. Report effectively group meeting of a mini project with standard format of meeting minutes.

Electrical Machinery - Lecture 1

Objectives of Mini Design Project (Cont)

In a professional environment, be able to defend orally a design project. Write a professional engineering report on the mini project. An ability to function on professional (or multidisciplinary) project teams. An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools (Matlab/Simulink) necessary for engineering practice.
Electrical Machinery - Lecture 1 7

Expected Results of Mini Design Project

Presentation (10%): All the team members have to participate in the presentation (10 minutes). Report (10%): One written report for each group. Simulation (10%): Simulation (with Matlab/Simulink) of the assigned electrical machine (not the designed system) should be shown at the end of the presentation. No hardware is required at the end of the project, although it is encouraged and rewarded.
Electrical Machinery - Lecture 1 8
