Preface

Medical Statistics Unit publishes the Annual Health Statistics as a special edition for the series of publications with health statistics. Annual Health Statistics 2007 is the 3rd edition of the Annual Health Statistics of which the first issue was published in 2005. The aim of the publication is to present only the tables of Annual Health Bulletin 2007. This publication contains a number of tables with statistics on the field of health providing information on some General Information, Organization of Health Services, Morbidity and Mortality status of the country, Patient Care Services, Public Health Services and some findings of the Demographic and Health Survey 2006/2007 which was conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics with the collaboration with Ministry of Health. Statistics for the publication were totally collected from the government health institutions, surveys and programmes. Information contained in this publication has been revised and brought up to date to reflect, as far as possible the situation during 2007. Appreciations and sincere thanks from Medical Statistics Unit, to the officials of all government health institutions and other organizations for extending the fullest cooperation with Medical Statistics Unit and sending returns and data of their institutions, programmes and surveys. This publication has been organized and prepared by the Medical Statistics Unit under the direction and guidance of Deputy Director Medical Statistics Unit. Statistician Mr. E.M.M.K. Ekanayaka was responsible for system designing work and Statistical Officer, Mrs. Kishanthi Jayawardhana was responsible for the overall supervision of the data processing activities and preparing the necessary specifications for computer edits. Data entry work was done according to the data entry programmes prepared by Statistical Officer Mr. K.K. Knoneswaran. Preparing tabulations by data processing and painstaking task of converting the tabulations into publication format were carried out by Statistical Officer, Mrs. Kishanthi Jayawardhana and Statistical Assistant Mr. Rihan Rabi with the assistance of Statistical Officer Mrs. H.M.D. Sepalika. Statistical Officer, Mrs. G.D Priyangika checked the accuracy of the statistics and tabulations prepared for the publication under the guidance of Deputy Director. Statistical Officers Mrs. G.D. Priyangika,Mr. L.S. Nishantha Perera, Mrs. H.M.D. Sepalika and Statisticical Assistants Mr. Rihan Rabee and Mr. Prasanna monitored the flow of returns by districts, prepared necessary specifications for imputations, supervised the coding, data entry and, editing. Data Entry Operators, Ms. K. Arunika, Ms Nilanthi Gunathilaka, Mrs. Kanchana, Mr. Dinesh Fernando, Mrs. Nadee Iresha, Mrs. Ruwani Saparamadu, Mrs. Apsara Nanathunga, and Mrs. Samudra Samaraweera have done the data entry activity while giving their fullest cooperation for all other works of their supervisors. Management Assistant Mrs. Damayanthi Karawita helped for collecting data and was responsible for printing activity.
