ALL MODEL 250 OPERATORS

Investigation has shown that air entering the aircraft or or air escaping from thee fuel control engine fuel system, can cause a partial loss of engine power or a system, Misinstalled, cracked or loose fuel system lines flameout. or fittings that do not perceptively leak fuel can leak air into the fuel system on aircraft operated without fuel boost pumps. Additionally, misinstalled, cracked or loose fuel control lines or fittings can allow air to escape from the control system causing the same problems. WARNING OPERATORS SHOULD ASSURE THAT ALL AIRCRAFT AND ENGINE FUEL OR CONTROL SYSTEM LINES AND FITTINGS ARE PROPERLY INSTALLED AND DO NOT LEAK AIR. FUEL, OR CONTROL SYSTEM AIR LEAKS CAN CAUSE A PARTIAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER OR A FLAMEOUT.

Safety Warning

The two principal reasons for air leakage are loose lines and damaged or impaired fittings. Loose lines develop from improper torquing of B Nuts during installation or through abnormal, inflight engine and/or airframe related high frequency/vibration. Damage to fittings can be caused by incorrect handling Insufficient or by improper installation procedures. torquing of a B Nut allows wear of the fitting through normal operational vibrations applied to a loose flare. The longer the situation remains unattended the more the increasing the possibility of greater nut may backoff, wear on both the flare and the fitting. they should be removed to enable As loose lines are found, the flares to be checked for wear, bends, dents, feathered The nipple portion of the edges or other deformities. fitting requires a conscientious inspection for damage or wear--specifically examine for any detectable groove in the mating surface. A groove can be quickly detected by placing a small metal straight-edge on the beveled When irregularities are surface and viewing for gaps. an effort must be made to determine the cause detected, with steps taken to correct the situation. An area that should not be ignored is the proper placement of line supports and clamps as these serve to dampen line vibration. If the tubing requires replacement, the fitting to which An inadequate seal may it mates should also be replaced. result if the line is replaced and mated to a defective nipple.
