BENDM POWER TURBINE GOVERNOR, THROTTLE SHAFT--INSPECT (ONE-TIME)

PLANNING INFORMATION: EFFECTIVITY: All of the following new production 250-C20/C20B Bendix governors prior to Serial No. 18157. DDA P/N 6876568 6891971 6891481 NOTE: -E,endix P/N 2524553-l 2524667-2 2524706-l

Power turbine governors that have been converted from Model AL-L3 governors as installed on the 250-Cl8 are not affected.

Units having the following color codes--blue, green, yellow, orange, purple or white--on the identification plate or on one of its attaching screws are not affected. REASON: There have been several reported cases of high throttle torque on the power turbine governor due to binding of the throttle shaft in the throttle bushing. The binding of the throttle shaft resulted from rust build-up on the shaft assembly causing an interferance or tight fit in the throttle bushing. This bulletin, therefore, intends to assure satisfactory governor operat:ion by recommending a visual inspection and torque check of the throttle shaft within the next 25 flight hours. The inspection and torque check can be done without removing the governor :from the engine. Revision No. 1 January 21, 1977

Not affected. It is recommended that this bulletin be accomplished one-time within the next 25 flight hours. FAA-DER Approved, Approximately 0.5 man-hours will be required to accomplish this bulletin on installed units. Material Moisture absorbing rust preventative Acceptable Source WD-40 or equivalent (Refer to Table III - 1, item 21, of the 250-C20 Series Operation and Maintenance Manual. )

ACCOMPLISHMENT I. Perform A. B.

INSTRUCTIONS: shaft inspection as follows: Do not remove

the following one-time governor throttle

Disconnect aircraft lever.

Visually inspect the #read end of the throttle shtit, which extends beyond the nut, for evidence of rust. (See Figure 1.) Use a three or five power magnifying glass. If evidence of rust is found, remove the governor for throttle shaft replacement at distributor facilities. If no rust is found, proceed to step C. Using a dial faced or flexible beam torque wrench and l/2 inch torque socket, carefully measure the torque required to move the throttle shaft from full minimum to full maxi~mum position. Repeat procedure to insure accurate readings. Maximum allowable torque is 5 lb. in, If shaft torque exceeds 5 lb. in., remove the governor for throttle shaft replacement at distributor facilities. On governors which pass both inspections, spray the shaft-tobushing area (Figure 1) with WD-40 or equivalent. One second spray should be satisfactory. Rotate the shaft following spray to assure penetration. Repeat spray if necessary.
