BULLETIN
March 30, 1978 SUNDSTRAND SINGLE ELEMENT FUEL PUMP, DRIVE SHAFT STOP--ADD PLANNING INFORMATION: EFFECTIVITY: All Model 250 Series I and II P/N 6895172 (Sundstrand P/N 024918-106) Single Element Fuel Pump Assemblies. The splined drive shaft of the pump is located and retained axially by a small retaining ring on the shaft. It engages the groove in the pump drive gear bore. If the pump drive shaft splines are not properly aligned with the gearbox drive shaft before installing the pump, it is possible to force the retaining ring from its groove--moving the drive shaft deeper into the pump drive gear. Consequently, oil will leak through the engine-to-fuel pump drive splines and drain from the pump. A driv,e shaft stop is added to provide assurance for full engagement of the pump input shaft to gearbox drive gear splines. For that reason, a new P/N 6895653 (Sundstrand P/N 024918-107) Fuel Pump and l?ilter Assembly has been released to all Series I and II engine assemblies. The new pump has a nylon sh.aft stop added inside the drive gear bore before th,e pump drive shaft is installed. The new P/N 50031966Shaft Stop prevents the drive shaft from being fo:rced deeper into the drive gear bore. It also permits 0.3 to 0.4 cc of P/N 718050Grease to be placed inside the drive gear bore. In-service pumps can be modified easily during the 750-hour inspection of the drive shaft. The stop is placed in the drive gear bore after packing the splined cavity with grease.
