VI. Lesson Proper Session 1: CARS Lesson 3 Session 2 3: A. 1. Motivation 1. Ask the students if they have ever experienced waiting for someone particularly for someone they consider important. Have them share their reason for waiting. 2. Have students watch the movie trailer of A.2 Preparation Before introducing the poem, have students unlock the meaning of some of the words they will encounter in the poem.

B. Presentation/Acquisition 1. Introduce to the students the poem The River Merchants Wife: A Letter by Li Po C. Discussion Questions/Analysis and Comparison (HOTS) 1. Who is the persona in the poem? What is he/she talking about? 2. Why is the poem entitled Africas Plea? 3. What is the persona saying in the first stanza? 4. What period in the lives of the Africans do you think is the persona talking about? What makes you say so? 5. How difficult is it to be someone you know you are not? Better yet, what is the challenge when people force or tell you to be something or someone you know you cannot be? 6. What is the most powerful line in the poem for you? Why? 7. In your own words explain what is Africas plea? 2

Parallelism is the placement of equal ideas in words, phrases, or clauses of similar types. 3. Faulty parallelism occurs when a writer uses unequal grammatical structures to express related ideas. Hence, meaning is not the problem rather it is on how the meaning is presented. E.
