Lead by experts from our Countryside Management course Come with us to Cannock Chase where you will experience life as a countryside ranger. Working with rangers and countryside volunteers you will take part in practical habitat management projects as well as contributing to valuable research into the animals and plants supported on a rare heathland habitat.

In one of the farm settings used by our animal management students for their practical projects, you will be taught how to keep animals healthy and happy. Looking first at their accommodation, youll find out how to house and clean-out some of the more common domestic animals. Youll help feed some of our favourites as well as getting some grooming tips from the experts. Please bring old clothes and wellingtons, if you have them.
Youll need to be ready to leave at 8am for this adrenaline-packed day of physical activity. Well be rock-climbing, taking in some abseiling and rising to the challenge of bouldering. If you enjoy outdoor adventure sports, this is your perfect day. It will also give you plenty of ideas for careers in the sport you love. All tuition and safety equipment is provided. Please bring warm clothing, waterproofs and stout footwear -preferably boots.
What to bring
We understand that you will want to share pictures of your Adventure experiences with your friends and family. We would prefer that you didnt bring your own camera in case it gets damaged (disposable ones are fine) but we will be taking plenty of photos during the events. These will be available to you, free of charge, to download or share.

We will provide all the equipment you need. Please wear old clothes and sturdy footwear, on the assumption that you will get muddy and wet. A change of clothes might be handy, for your journey home. All these adventures start and finish at Stafford College but youll spend most of the day offsite. You will need a packed lunch. In some locations refreshments are available you might wish to bring a small amount of spending-money.
Please note the times of each Adventure Day. These are the times that our mini-buses will be setting off on the adventure trail and returning to the Stafford College campus each day. You need to make your own way to and from the campus and make sure you arrive in time to jump aboard our adventure buses.
Alongside rangers and countryside volunteers at Cannock Chase you will carry out important environmental management work. As well as practical tasks to help maintain lowland heath habitat which has been described as A top priority for nature conservation and as rare as the rainforest, you will carry out species counts that will directly contribute to the growing knowledge of the huge range of plants and animals thriving on the heathland grazing areas. Please bring suitable outdoor clothing and stout - preferably steelcapped boots if you have them.
Please do not bring valuables with you.You will be in adventurous locations where valuables could easily get lost or damaged. For safety reasons, jewellery is not permitted and if you have long hair, please tie it back. If you need your phone to organise your lift home etc, we can keep it in a valuables box inside the mini-bus.
