STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Father had come to pick me up from school as it had rained heavily that day. Our car stopped at a traffic signal when I saw a kid probably 7 years old, drinking water from a puddle. I gave him 10 bucks telling him to buy a bottle of water and sat comfortably back in my seat, when father asked me Do you think that would really help? I took a few seconds to understand what he meant. The boy must have bought water had no adult snatched the money from him but what about tomorrow and the day after that and after that. Giving him money was just a temporary solution. There are/were million of children in India and other parts of the world deprived of the most basic needs. Since then, I wanted to work for the overall welfare of impoverished children. While pursuing my graduation from Delhi University in Economics, along with four other friends I established a NGO: Rhythm of Life (RoL) with the vision of providing quality education to underprivileged children. At RoL we have adopted a holistic approach focusing on interactive learning, which includes not only academics but co-curricular activities as well. We soon successfully organized few events in Delhi where the RoL children performed. One of our students: Tanisha received sponsorship for lifetime education from Mr., Trustee JD Tytler School during these events. RoL has also initiated an employment generation scheme for the adult female members of their families. However I soon realized that the problem wasnt only limited economical constraints, which led to poor health, education, and sanitation condition but also linked to social factors, policy decisions and awareness. I accepted/inferred/understood that I required specific skills along with my strong desire to work for the cause of women and children. I enrolled myself for MBA-NGO Management in Amity University, Uttar Pradesh in 2012. The course has enhanced my Inter-personal Skills, Analytical Skills and knowledge about Rural Project Planning and Community Building. UNICEF can further broaden my knowledge and skill set providing me right experience and exposure. Given an opportunity to intern with UNICEF, I will be keen on working in area of education, child rights and gender disparities while being open to other fields as well.
