MVMPCS ART NEWS: Dear Families Are we ready? Yes, we are ready to do our best on the MSA testing for 2013. Maryland State Assessments (MSA) will begin on March 4th through the 11th for all students in grades 3rd to 8th. We are asking all students to arrive at school on time during this week. Testing will begin at 9:15AM until 12:00PM daily. During testing time, parent volunteers will not be allowed in the building to volunteer. Yet, will be welcomed after testing is completed at 12:00PM. Students that arrive late to school will remain in the front office until their groups testing session is completed. In previous years, our schools attendance and late arrivals have been low during MSA week. Lets continue this trend. Students are encouraged to bring a nutritious snack and water during testing. Parents, please encourage your child to get a restful night sleep and to eat a well-balanced breakfast in the morning. On Monday, I met with a Frederick City police officer about neighborhood complaints. He expressed that property owners have reported trash being thrown from cars in our carline. In addition, those making right turns into the alleyway and blocking Elm Street. Please be mindful and respectful of our surrounding community. Have a wonderful weekend. Cita

In order for a student to receive medication during the school day you are required to follow the FCPS Medication Administration Policy. (reg 400-23) The following checklist will assure the policy requirements are met:

Both parent/guardian and the health care provider must sign this form. The medication must be in the original unopened container and/or be properly labeled by the pharmacy. The medication label must match the health care providers authorization form. An adult must transport any medications to and from school.

You will optionally have the choice of setting a time when you would like an email reminder to be delivered, and you will be prompted to enter in the name of your student. Click on Create Appointment.Repeat until you have a time with each teacher youd like to visit with.
You can click on the Printable Schedule link located on the top right corner and print the resulting web page to get a hard copy of your schedule. You will also have the option to email the schedule to yourself. The first full days dosage of ANY new medication must be given at home.

Please be aware of the expiration date on the pharmacy label when bringing the medication to the health room with the new authorization form. School health staff will determine medication expiration by the date printed on the pharmacy label. Please note Epinephrine, Diastat, Glucagon and inhalers have an expiration date printed on the container in addition to the pharmacy label. Therefore the container expiration date must be equal to or exceed the expiration date on the pharmacy label. Please make sure the expiration date on the individual medication container exceeds the expiration date on the label before leaving the pharmacy. All of the appropriate forms can be obtained from the health room or by going to http://wwww.fcps.org/dept/health/ index.htm and clicking on the form you need. For further questions, you may contact the Health Rom at 301-6680667.

PROJECT EARTH NEWS Project Earth is a group of MVMPCS students and parents working to promote awareness about environmental sustainability and developing habits that are in line with that awareness. Our focus is on how small personal actions can affect the larger community. Project Earth hosts community excursions with environmental and nature-based themes. These events are open to the entire MVMPCS community. A parent (or other adult designee) will need to be present for all children who attend. Our first excursion of 2013 will be a hike at Gambrill State Park on Friday, March 8th, weather permitting. We will meet at the trailhead on Gambrill Park Road at 3:45 PM for a 1-mile hike. If you would like to join us, please contact Jenny Woodall at: jennywoodall@gmail.com.

Be watching for future event details such as the Annual Earth Day Fair, April 19.
