Course Objectives:
The objectives of the course are three folds: 1) To define precisely how the internet is affected by regulation of U.S. and foreign laws. Privacy, criminal activity, file sharing are a few of the areas to be reviewed. 2) To research and understand the use of the internet is being affected by the introduction of new laws and how these laws are enforced. 3) To review approaches to how policies can be implemented that would be both legally and ethically sound in the internet age.

Teaching Method:
Blackboard is combined with extensive reading assignments. There will be one midterm exam and a final semester exam. Assignments are handed out whenever deemed necessary. Changes to the schedule will be announced well in advance ON-LINE. Following are some of the common excuses I have gleaned from my students over the years: 1) My relative suddenly became sick last weekend 2) My girl/boyfriend talked me into this mess 3) The subway had a flat on my way to class 4) Could I have an extension? 5) I need this course to graduate! Attendance is always mandatory. You must stay current in your readings, assignments, and exam preparation, isolated absences will not, hopefully, have adverse effects on your performance. You are solely responsible, however, for making up for your deficiencies due to absence. However, if you miss your deliverables, it may force your withdrawal from class. Examples include missing an exam and/or presentation without sufficient justification(s) in advance. Further, three late assignments would be considered as your dropping the course. All course announcements, assignments, and statistics will be secured at one website,

Thus, each student is asked to log in to the site at least twice a week to stay current in the course. The login password is your NYIT SSO id that was distributed during the first day of your registration. You must be registered for the course to be allowed entry to the website. Please exchange contacts with your colleagues. Please do not call to notify me of your absence, unless it is an emergency. Your absence will be so obvious. Misplanning on your part does not necessarily constitute emergency on my part.

(maybe they were ALMOST as good as yours) and why. Then Identify (by name) one posting that could be improved (EVERYONE's could be improved but this one may need more help) and why. What's important here is helping your classmates learn when they do well and when they could do better. The Final and Mid-term Examinations are online: This examination is in essay reply format, not short answer. Please use complete sentences, paragraphs, correct grammar and spelling in preparing your answers. Points will be deducted for failure to provide effective answers. You will be allowed 3 hours to complete 6 essay questions out of 6 possible topics. WARNING, once you begin the examination online, you must complete the examination within 3 hours. Make sure you have 3 hours of uninterruptible time for online access. It is best to take the examination on campus if possible or use DSL or cable connection. Once you reach the time limit or you drop your online connection, you will be exited from the examination and WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RE-ENTER. DO NOT E-MAIL ME for a do-over. So be careful in taking the examination. It is open book and open web. Grammar and spelling count so use MS Word or OPEN OFFICE to edit your response.
