TRB will conduct a web briefing or "Webinar" on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00
p.m. EDT, that will explore the importance of bridge inspection and management, bridge inspection
practices, and the inspection and management of bridges with fracture-critical details. The webinar
will also examine the monitoring of scour critical bridges, and highlight efforts to develop guidelines
for implementing quality control and quality assurance for bridge inspections. Participants must
register at least 24 hours in advance of the start of the Webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee

Abstracts
TRB is sponsoring the Integrated Corridor System Management Modeling Best Practices Workshop
on September 14-15, 2009, in Irvine, California. The workshop is designed to explore corridor study
experiences, identify best practices, discuss data needs and collection methods, and develop a
collective research agenda on integrated corridor systems management and modeling. Interested

May 5-7, 2010, in Irvine, California. The conference is designed to explore the science and
engineering of nanotechnology in modifying and monitoring the behavior and performance of cement
and concrete at the nanoscale. Nanomodification of concrete is potentially capable of dramatically
improving its tensile strength, toughness, ductility, and durability properties. Interested individuals or

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released the latest issue of its Research and
Technology (R&T) Now news update. The update reports on research, technology, and development
activities taking place within the U.S. Department of Transportation. [More]
The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released the latest issue of Traffic Volume Trends,
which is a monthly report based on hourly traffic count data reported by the states. According to the
report, travel on all roads and streets declined by 1.6 percent (-3.8 billion vehicle miles) in December
2008 as compared with December 2007. Travel for the month is estimated to be 237.2 billion vehicle
miles. Cumulative travel for 2008 was down by 3.6 percent (-107.9 billion vehicle miles). The
cumulative estimate for the year is 2,921.9 billion vehicle miles of travel. [More]
