New UAV Benefits from New Hood Tech Sensor Turret The air frame used for the

US Navys RQ-21A small UAV recently flew with Hood techs latest turret, featuring mid-wave infrared, high-zoom electro-optical imaging, and laser pointer. Hood River, OR, March 01, 2013 -- The Portland Business Journal reports (www.biz journals.com/portland/morning_call/2013/02/insitu-tests-new-unmanned-aircraft-in .html) that the US Navys RQ-21A aircraft recently was test-flown in eastern Orego n with an improved sensor turret, which includes the latest mid-wave infrared sen sor with onboard image stabilization. The turret referenced is Hood Techs Alticam 11 EOIR2, which also includes a laser range-finder to provide comprehensive capa bility to spot and identify objects of interest for both military and non-milita ry applications. The new turret helps imagery analysts seeduring day and night mis sions. As an Oregon company, we are pleased to be located so close to the test sit e, said Lars Bergstrom, the Chief Operations Officer for Hood Tech Vision, which produces the turret. We benefit from the location, and we think our technology is leading the way for small UAV imaging systems. When Hood Tech began producing 800-gm video-camera turrets in 1998, it enabled a n entirely new class of small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Hood Technology C orp. Vision, Inc. (Hood Tech) now designs and manufactures imaging and video pro cessing systems at the highest level of the National Imagery Interpretability Ra ting Scale (NIIRS): level 9. Hood Tech matches improved stabilization technology with electro-optical lenses that zoom up to 170 times. This results in a field of view of 0.3 degrees, in a package that weighs less than six kg. Designed for manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), boats, land vehicles, and stationary mounts, the reliability and utility of Hood Techs daylight and thermal imaging p roducts has been demonstrated over more than 700,000 hours of use in a variety o f temperatures, humidity, dust, smoke, haze, and other environmental factors (ww w.alticamvision.com). Dr. Andy von Flotow founded Hood Technology in Hood River, Oregon in 1992. Along with the design and manufacture of stabilized imaging systems, Hood Technology: Develops, tests, and manufactures launch and retrieval systems for UAVs Operates controlled launch and quiet wind tunnel test facilities Monitors blade vibrations in industrial turbines and jet engines, including diag nostic methods that predict possible future failures.
