Respect
"If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true (John 5:31). Forced respect is not respect. Jesus could have forced acceptance. Remember his claim in the garden, as the mob came to take him. He could have called twelve legions of angels. Consider that a Roman legion had between 5000 and 8000 soldiers. That means He could have drawn 60,00096,000 angels. Even if you consider that Jesus was simply stating that He could summon an overwhelming force to attend to his will, we know that forced compliance could have readily been on His side. Forced acceptance and respect are not the same. Tyrants may force the compliance of people, but may never win their hearts. While the word fear is the one that is often the English translation for our relationship with God, it has nothing to do with bowing to a tyrant. If the message of the Bible and experience tells us anything, we are told that God has gone to the limits of love and compassion to draw our respect. He has earned it. Jesus knew that force would not win the hearts of people. At the same time, the need of strong leadership is without question. Still, leadership is far more than demanding compliance. Jesus shows us that respected leadership is best engaged through willing ministry and sacrificial service. Simply, the way to respect is sometimes through a cross. Consider the way the miraculous power of the Lord was used. There were legs for lame people. There were eyes for blind people. There was forgiveness for the sinful. There was even food for the hungry. Yet, selfservice was last on the list. When He could have turned stones into bread for his own hunger, He fed on serving Gods will. Respect is drawn of loving, sacrificial service. Jesus knew it. Russ

Plans are being organized for EPIC (Ever Present in Christ). It is a

youth training and spiritual growth program. The youth from our congregation will be participating with those in other congregations as we conduct a gathering here on April 19-20. Volunteers from our membership will be needed to help conduct this program. Listen for more announcements in the coming weeks.
Tipton Home Host Family: If you have been wondering how to pro-

vide more than financial support to the children at the Tipton home, then please consider becoming a Host Family. A Host Family provides a temporary home for a child during school breaks, holidays, vacations, and other various times throughout the course of the year. This is a wonderful opportunity to build long term relationships and provide a Christian home environment for children in need. For information on being a Host Family, email Tanya Smith at Tipton Home: Tanya.smith@tiptonhome.com.
Change for Children cans for the Tipton Home are available to take

home and fill. I saw only one remaining can. Let it be yours. Even if you do not have an official can, feel free to use a container of your own. We will let you know when the cans need to be returned. Last year we donated $981.99. Lets see what we can do this year. It is a good cause.
Affirming the Faith: There will soon be an evaluation and planning

meeting of the advisory committee for ATF. If you attended the ATF seminar and have some good suggestions for future planning, please share them with me (RD).
