Customer Controlled Network Management System Streamline Process A Case Study

Requirements for Broadcast NGN

Migration of existing (SDH, ATM) networks. Provision of all available services and openness to new services. Standardized platform for broadcast specific transmissions. Support of different service levels and classes. Optimized network management via prioritization.

QoS for real-time. Best effort for file transfer.

Establishment of VPN for customer-tailored networks with independent administration. Customer self service for establishing short-term connections (10.000 p.m.). Interface to ERP services for Billing. Open platform (multi vendor) in accordance with global standards.

Broadcast NGN Network topology Germany

Equiped for the future available on 19 locations - Flexible and scalable

In 2011 the network capacity will be doubled to realize the new demands, as there are: increasing demand for HD-SDI transmissions New services like Internet-Service-Providing Migration of ATM Broadcast Services to the NGN platform

Single No backup planned. Manual rerouting by network management within the BROADCAST NGN is possible.

Auto reroute

Automatic rerouting in case of errors, if capacity is available in the BROADCAST NGN. We will maintain two separate routes within the BROADCAST NGN. In case of error, the line will automatically be switched to the alternate route. Two independently run connections will be activated between locations A and B (1+1).

Dual

Backup origin

A second source can be booked in advance. The line will be switched to this second source should an error occur.

Operators Concern

To roll-out new services i.e. HD, 3D To be able to scale with our growth To get our data in-synch with dynamic changes To get our users and staff trained (intuitive clients) To be integrated into our current and future operations To handle all of our resources and services

Best Practices for Broadcasters

Precise resource management (no double booking while provisioning) Fast and easy setup of connections (P2MC, P2P) Alarm location and fast automatic repair (backup switching) Scheduling Preemption Easy conflict resolution Managing of edge devices Service related SLA monitoring

Industrial Trends

The merging of broadcast and telcos networks is already happening Collaboration instead of competition will be key Control systems have to meet both telco and broadcast requirements Customer operations have become very fast

Industrial Trends

The standard broadcast Monitoring and Control systems were good in the past Operational Support Systems from telcos lacking functionalities for broadcast A new generation of control system is required We call it Customer Centric Operational Support System

Key Financial Benefits

Reducing CAPEX and OPEX
Improve access to information by multiple operations functions: Network Operations, Provisioning Engineers, Planning and Engineering, Sales and upper Management Enable Virtual Sales Service through the implementation of mobility clients and central information repository Improve data quality Achieve data accuracy rate Streamline operations for broadcasters Increases customer satisfaction

Major Findings

Standard compliant devices are very important for future business The key to successful business is hiding the complexity of the network from end users Customer would like to see a very simple UI Customer expectations are always to be able to provision within seconds Introduction of new services needs to be fast Customer VPN have become dynamic Flow-through provisioning can massively reduce operation cost
