QUESTION 6
An ecosystem is composed of living and non-living organisms that interact with each other to achieve an equilibrium system. The ecosystems are mostly powered by solar energy and the energy flows among the organisms to maintain their survival. Organisms that act as producers capture the solar energy and convert it into another form of energy. Then, the energy is stored in the form of chemical energy and can be harvested by other organisms, called consumers. As the energy is being exchanged subsequently, some of them will be dissipated in the form of heat through the process of energy flow.
By using an appropriate example, create an energy flow that exists in an ecosystem. Then, indicate the places where heat is dissipated to its surrounding. (6 marks)
QUESTION 7
You are the head of research division of Superb Spinach Company. Your company is running an experiment on growing spinach using hydroponics technology. Hydroponics technology involves growing plants in containers of growth solution in a greenhouse. No soil is used. The growth solution that the company uses contains water, nitrogen, and phosphorus. The company wants to know if adding iron to this formula will improve the growth rate of spinach.
a) State a hypothesis to be tested in the experiment. (2 marks)
c) State how the control group will be treated differently from the experimental group. (4 marks) d) What type of data and unit of measurement should be collected to present the dependent variables? (2 marks)
