Day 1
The Law What is a competent person, as described in LOLOR 1998 The responsibility of a crane inspector Equipment needed by the crane inspector and tools Identifying crane parts Safe working practices Studying the following standards for offshore crane inspectors: - API RP 2D Operation and Maintenance of Offshore Cranes-Sixth Edition, May 2007 - API 2C Specification for Offshore Pedestal Mounted Cranes Sixth edition, March 2004 - API 9A Specification for Wire Rope Twenty- fifth Edition, August 2004 - API RP 8B Recommended Practice for Procedures for Inspections, Maintenance, Repair, and Remanufacture of Hoisting Equipment Seventh Edition, March 2002 - BS 5744 Code of Practice for Safe Use of Cranes
Instruction will include lectures, discussions, videos, Power -Point presentations and practical lessons using an actual crane. Both learning environments will give students an overview of the offshore crane industry in generalized terms yet also focus on the offshore crane inspector criteria outlined in API and Global standards.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, delegate will: Become a "competent personnel" to inspect offshore cranes and lifting equipment. Be able to understand the relevant standards. Become confident in carrying out difficult tasks.

Day 5
Read load charts in preparation for a 4 yearly proof test as laid down in AP 2C &D Set up the FAT test and go through in detail Start loose lifting Equipment inspection
Day 6
Loose lifting equipment, and the use and frequency of inspection Rigging practices, and looking at a lifting plan In depth look into Chain hoist, pull lever, floor cranes and pallet truck
Day 7
Finish off Loose lifting equipment and go through a inspection Setting up a proof test of loose lifting equipment, including slings, chain blocks, and chain blocks Recap on course and Final Test

spending time teaching and coaching the locals. He has also worked hands-on and management from re-building to inspection of all types of heavy lifting equipment, which includes onshore and offshore, port, and construction site cranes in the USA, Middle East, and Asia.
He has been a Training Manager in the Middle East for a well known Third Party Inspection Company. Fred has also written many procedures on various aspects of crane building, maintenance, and heavy lifts.
