DIERBERGS MARKET AT DES PERES ANNOUNCES WELLNESS TEAM

Plans to Expand Decades-Long Wellness Programs

Dierbergs Markets is expanding its company-wide wellness initiatives with the creation of a wellness team operating from the Culinary Event Center in its new Des Peres store. Staff nutritionist Trish Farano, a 14-year veteran of Dierbergs, re-located to the Culinary Event Center. She will be joined by Registered Dietitian Jenn Randazzo, who comes to Dierbergs and the wellness team with a strong culinary skillset and extensive background as a pediatric and familybased consulting dietician. Gloris Xynos, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator from St. Lukes Hospital, rounds out the wellness team. St. Lukes operates a Convenient Care Clinic in the Dierbergs Des Peres store. The goal of the Wellness Team is to provide Dierbergs customers and their families access to wholesome foods, easy-to-understand nutrition information, and expert advice on how to make healthy lifestyle changes that are sustainable and enjoyable. From customized grocery store tours to online social media, the Dierbergs Wellness Team plans to engage their current and future customers in ways unlike ever before. Wellness has been part of the Dierbergs store experience for nearly 30 years, from heart-health education to company-wide initiatives focused on childhood obesity, Farano said. The new Culinary Event Center was designed to give us the space, tools and platform to build on those programs. Events planned by the Wellness Team are centered on the goal of answering the following questions: Whats on your plate?, Whats on your mind? and Whats in your cart? Some upcoming opportunities include: Whats on Your Mind? The Wellness Team at Dierbergs Des Peres will promote storewide initiatives to inspire healthy lifestyle choices. The program works in tandem with Dierbergs Pharmacy, St. Lukes Convenient Care Clinic, Dierbergs Whole Life Department and Dierbergs Culinary Event Center. We fully expect our Des Peres store to become a destination for wellness activitiesto reach beyond the immediate customer base served by this new location, Farano said. Plus, programs will flow outward from our Des Peres wellness team to existing locations to complement and build on wellness programs we already have in place. Dierbergs heart-healthy eating initiatives and cooking classes, many established through its longstanding partnership with Missouri Baptist Medical Center, started in 1986. Other offerings and initiatives include Carb It Smart cooking classes; a quarterly Whole Life Magazine publication; and numerous published healthy eating recipes including two Healthy cookbooks. Dierbergs Kids BEE Healthy, a four-week, fall campaign initiated in 2007, tackles childhood obesity with programs and activities focused on healthy eating and active lifestyles. In 2012, Dierbergs teamed with Cardinal Glennon Childrens Medical Center in support of Homers for Health, a fundraising and educational effort for the hospitals wellness programs. A component of that program includes Dierbergs Strong Bodies, weekly healthy eating tips aired on the Cardinals Kids show on Fox Sports Midwest. The company introduced its first Whole Life Natural and Organic departments when it opened its Brentwood Pointe store in 2001. Most Dierbergs locations now have those dedicated departments; all stores carry more than 150 fresh organic produce items alongside traditional offerings. Each Dierbergs carries an ever-growing list of gluten-free, sugar-free and other items for individuals with specific dietary needs.
