Directions: To provide feedback on the candidates performance, please mark the appropriate number on the Likert Scale at the right of each category below using the following descriptors: 1= Inadequate; 2 = Emerging; 3 = Proficient; 4 = Distinctive. 1. Conducts self in a professional manner (e.g., attendance, preparation, respect). 1 2 3 4 (Dispositions: Respect, Responsibility, Communication) Fabiola was very professional in her interactions with staff and students. She always came prepared for lessons and had excellent attendance. It was clear that Fabiola was serious about her responsibilities and wanted to do a good job. She was always very friendly and respectful. 2. Encourages development of a positive self-image in learners (e.g., gets to know students, 1 2 3 4 positive interactions with students). (Dispositions: Respect, Collaboration) This is an area where Fabiola did a really nice job. From the first day she was in our clasroom, she made efforts to get to know the students and be part of our classroom community. Her kind disposition made the students feel comfortable around her and they looked forward to having her in the classroom on Wednesdays. 3. Interacts effectively with students, colleagues, administrators, parents. 1 2 3 4 (Dispositions: Respect, Collaboration, Communication) Fabiola's interactions with the students were always kind and respectful. She made efforts to get the know the students and formed positive relationships with them. Fabiola did a nice job of being aware of students' needs and taking steps to help. She would step in and help redirect behavior and work with students who needed a little extra help. 4. Demonstrates effective pre-professional teaching skills. (e.g., planning, implementing 1 2 3 4 lesson) (Dispositions: Respect, Responsibility, Reflection, Collaboration, Communication) Fabiola's lessons were appropriate for a first grade classroom. She did a nice job of tying her lessons to the other things students were studying. Fabiola was prompt in sending her lessons prior to the date she was going to teach. She was open to suggestions and make adjustments in her lessons when necessary to best meet the needs of th students. In planning future lessons, I would suggest that Fabiola think more about narrowing the focus for her lessons. She has a good start to her lesson planning, but there were times when her lesson strayed from the plan and became too broad. 5. Communicates effectively through speaking, writing, and listening (e.g., gives clear 1 2 3 4 directions, listens to students, uses media). (Dispositions: Respect, Communication) Fabiola does a nice job of communicating with students. It was clear that she really listened to the students and was eager to help meet their needs. Transitioning from one activity to another in a classroom of young learners can be challenging. In future lessons, it would be helpful for Fabiola to fully think through how she will manage transitions. I was not able to see Fabiola incorporate any media into her lessons. This may be something for her to include in future lessons. Final Comments/Suggestions for Candidate:

Over the course of the semester, I saw Fabiola form positive relationships with the first grade students. She was very receptive to suggestions for her lessons and it is apparent that she is eager to be a great teacher. She worked hard to plan lessons that were appropriate for first graders and aligned with classroom curriculum. She was proactive in her interactions with students and would look for ways to help them. I would encourage Fabiola to be confident in her self and let that confidence shine through in her lessons. Being really familiar with the lesson that she is going to teach will help her to be ready for the teachable moments that present themselves. It will also help her stay focused during her lessons. It is important to always think about what you want the students to know and be able to do following a lesson. Keeping this in mind will help her stay of track during her lessons. Best of luck in your future teaching! Date: 12-2-2011 Grade/Subject: 1 School: Highland View Candidate Name: Fabiola Rodriguez Cooperating Teacher: Jessica Merritt
