LESSON:

ORIGIN, NATURE, FUNCTIONS, AND KINDS OF LAWS

OBJECTIVE:

Train students in identifying and recognize various kinds of law and educate them in such laws origin, nature, and functions.

DURATION:

1 hour

LEVEL:

Tertiary

I. MOTIVATION As a preliminary, teacher asks the following question, Why cant you simply kill your enemy at the corridor? After students share their answers, teacher then introduces the topic Origin, Nature, Functions, and Kinds of Laws.

II. PRESENTATION The teacher asks if what the students understand about law. The teacher also inquires as to what the students think will be the relevance of understanding law in their respective courses. After hearing their answers, teacher then lectures on the definition, origin, nature, functions, and kinds of law. By definition, Law is a system of rules and guidelines which are enforced through social institutions to govern behavior. Laws are made by governments, specifically by their legislatures.

The history of Law is will trace the beginnings of civil and criminal laws all the way to the Code of Hammurabi in 1760 BC until its development to the modern laws we are familiar with today. Meanwhile, the nature and function of law will be explained simultaneously by teacher to the students by giving a brief on legal theory and philosophy of law. Laws shall be classified into Arbitrary and Nonarbitrary, National and International, and the interplay of such laws in policy-making processes by the government. Finally, the process of passing bills into laws will also be discussed thoroughly.

III. APPLICATION As a follow-up, teacher will ask the student to trace the development of the Reproductive Health Bill into the Reproductive Health Law that it is now.

IV. CONCLUSION The teacher will then provide the summary of the lesson to students by doing a recap of the lesson emphasizing important points in the lesson and stressing the role of law in their day to day lives.

V. EVALUATION The teacher will give a 10-point quiz at the end of the lesson which shall test the understanding of the students about the lesson on law presented.
