Dear Readers
When you receive this issue, it will probably be just a few days left before the start of
the Bauma exhibition. Or, you will have pcked up the magazine in our stand at the
show. This whole magazine is more or less completely dedicated to Bauma. Although
it is the responsibility of PDi to cover this mega-show on behalf our our readers,
Ive found that its not so much something that we have to do, but also something
that we need to do.
Bauma completely dominates this spring, at least in our business. But I have said
this before. More and more, big shows tend to dominate things ,which is both good
and bad. The bad part is that it is almost like there is nothing besides the big shows,
and yet many contractors are unable to attend them due to the costs as well as the
linguistic problem. Not everybody speaks English. The local shows will still play an
important role, even though the attention is directed towards the large shows.
Another bad thing with mega-shows is that they sometimes take a toll on you
both physically and psycologically as they really make you very tired. To be able to
see everything at Bauma really takes a lot of planning and walking. So bring good
shoes and pain-killers if you are coming.
But there is, of course, a lot of good things with shows like Bauma too. First of
all, it is a nice atomphere to come to Mnich. When you take in the good feeling
that comes with looking at new products, you feel better about the markets future.
That feeling is not an illusion. This special PDi Bauma issue is full of proof that both
our manufacturers and contractors believe in the future, and that an upturn in the
economy is approaching. Some markets are already seeing clear signs of that. And
a show of Baumas size can play a role in speeding up the recovery. For contractors,
exhibitions often provide a chance for a good deal, and this years Bauma with the
rather slow economy certainly offers those chances. So for you who plan on upgrading
your machinery, bring your wallet.
I also want to mention that this Bauma also is special as IACDS will organise
their seminars in conjunction with the show. A number of interesting speeches related
to professional concrete sawing and drilling will be held. The seminars are free of
charge but you need to register at www.iacds.org. Dont miss this chance. A list of
the different speeches can be found on page 67.
Even though this issue is full of information about Bauma, you fnd a number
of other interesting stories. We have two special features about new breakers, and
new mobile recycling and screening equipment. In addition, we have a number of
reports like one on the new Swedish demolition contractor DemCom, and another
on the manufacturer of the smart quick coupling system OilQuick, plus the story
about the Dutch diamond tool manufacturer Diacom. And, of course, there is the
30-plus page Bauma Show Special.
If you do attend Bauma, I would
like invite you to visit the PDi booth, if.
You fnd me and some of my colleagues
in hall A1 booth 132. Finally, enjoy this
issue, Bauma and the spring.

for each operation, and who would check it
to see if it was ftted correctly?
The Association has looked into this
problem and come to an agreement with Brit-
ish manufacturers that trailer rigs will conform
to having a guard ftted that would disconnect
power to the motor if it is removed or opened
at the front to gain access to the drill. The
Health and Safety Executive has agreed with
and approved this concept.
On the subject of hand drills, diamond
and tungsten twist drills, the Executive thought
that it was unnecessary to have a guard.
In my 45 years in the trade, I have never
heard of a person being hurt by the drill.
However, I have heard of a person injured by
a drilling rig spinning around the drill when it
was not fxed in place correctly.
The British Drilling and Sawing Associa-
tion is putting forward an argument that this
action is not necessary. We would like to
know if any other country or association has
had similar problems. If so, please report it to
the IACDS at info@iacds.org, as I intend to
raise the subject at the meeting in Salzburg
on Monday 26 April 2010. I would not
like to see this become a world problem
or directive.
Everybody is welcome to attend the
meeting in Salzburg.

Guarding of drill rigs
Although we are just coming out of reces-
sion, a large number of companies are still
investing in training in drilling and sawing. In
my opinion, we now have some of the most
trained and skilled workers on construction
sites in recent years. Health and safety is
the top priority on construction sites by the
construction management, drilling and sawing
management and the operators themselves,
and the British drilling companies have an
excellent safety record.
It has come to light in Great Britain that
Health and Safety Executive wants us to guard
all diamond drilling rigs and cut the electrical
supply to the motor if the guard is removed
or opened to gain access to the drill. However,
they also say we can allow the drill to turn
slowly if the front of the guard was opened.
That seems to contradict the motor being
disabled if the guard is opened.
The Association have pointed out that
all our drilling rigs meet European mechanical
directive and CE regulations. Because not
all world manufactures of drilling rigs supply
guards under CE regulations, we are not
allowed to modify the rigs as these would
invalidate manufacturers warranty.
We also pointed out the how unpractical
guarding the rigs would be drilling up to tight
walls, corners, between pipes etc.
Another problem would be for the op-
erator to confrm that he has a good fow
of water if the guard was not made of a
clear, transparent material. The guard
would have to contract in and out with
the drill many times to constantly keep
the drill guarded.
As for guard size, would we have
to have a different guard
for each size of drill that
is from 25mm to 1 m
in diameter? If so, who
would have the author-
ity to change the guard

Words from OBrien
Hi-Cycle
Technology
Evolution
Every once in a while, a person will call
the CSDA offce to ask for advice on
entering the concrete cutting business.
Just this past week, a new contractor
called to ask if he should make his
frst wall saw purchase a hydraulic or
hi-cycle. This got me thinking about the
how the industry has changed.
It seems that the technology of
concrete cutting is heading into a time
of major change. Manufacturers at trade
shows such as World of Concrete earlier
this year, and the Bauma exhibition in
April, are introducing more and more
hi-cycle equipment. This, along with
remote control options, has certainly
moved the world of concrete cutting in
a new direction.
In the years since I entered this
industry with GE Superabrasives in
1982, hydraulic-powered options for
wall saws and core drills seemed to
be the choice for cutting profession-
als. At one time, there were two main
choices for wall saw systems in North
Americathe Longyear 360 and GDM
saws. If you were part of the Concrete
Coring Company franchise, the hi-cycle
option had been available to you since
the mid-1960s.
Skip ahead to the current decade
(particularly the past fve years), which
has seen an increasing adoption of
the hi-cycle technology, with 1000 Hz
systems predominant in Europe and
400 Hz in North America. This transi-
tion also coincides with the younger
operators entering the business. In the
days of hydraulic operation, business
owners looked to hire operators with
good hydraulic and mechanical skills
that made operation and repair in the
field simpler. However, the younger
generation has grown up with comput-
ers and video games, so operating an
electric wall saw with remote controls
are much more consistent with their
own experience. Some manufacturers
have estimated that in fve years, 50
percent of all wall saws will be hi-cycle
powered. Many older operators have
also embraced hi-cycle, as the lighter
weight of the machinery will help extend
their careers.
In addition to the lighter machinery
weight and remote control capabilities,
hi-cycle systems offer improved perfor-
mance, especially in harder aggregate.
This can be a signifcant advantage over
the competition. Remote control, along
with being a nice feature to attract a
younger generation, offers operators
and customers the advantage of lower
noise pollution as well as lower occur-
rences of injuries.
The repair of hi-cycle equipment
does present a challenge to companies,
however. Older operators familiar with
hydraulic power equipment will need
training in the rapidly-advancing tech-
nology. Training systems and service
capabilities will need to be developed
as the penetration of hi-cycle systems
into the market expands, but these tasks
are certainly achievable considering all
the positive advantages these systems
offer.
The concrete cutting industry has
come a long way since it began more
than 50 years ago. The acceptance of hi-
cycle powered systems by owners and
operators will quite possibly change and
improve the professional advancement
of the industry in a dramatic way. And
this technological change is occurring
just as new tech-savvy operators enter
the industry. The future of our industry
does look very bright indeed.
Best regards

D-Drill (Master Drillers) Limited has expanded its
team and appointed Jimmy Smith as the new
Plymouth Area Manager. Jimmy brings more than
30 years of experience in the diamond drilling
industry to D-Drill, making him an ideal resource
for customers of the Plymoth branch.
Smith started out at CUT-A-WAY in Luton
where he learned techniques such as diamond
drilling, concrete cutting and track sawing. He
then spent four years at Kilnbridge in London,
where he progressed to become a contract
supervisor. Smith then worked for Drilltec as a
contract manager and was soon promoted to
contract director.
Im really pleased to be working for D-Drill,
Smith says. Theyre such a long-established
and reputable drilling company. And Im keen to
apply my skills to further develop the Plymouth

Plympton. D-Drill has grown year-on-year since
its inception. In addition to the nine regional of-
fces, the company also has its own engineering
department that manufactures drills, blades and
equipment (under White Diamond Products Ltd,
an operating division.) This enables D-Drill to
contain its costs, and therefore keep its charges
competitive. The company has further expanded
its services with its Superfoor specialist surface
preparation division, which offers surface prepara-
tion from shotblasting and scarifying to diamond
grinding and concrete polishing.
Continuing with its one-stop shop service
approach, D-Drill has diversifed into the demolition
contracting market with the acquisition of MBC
Specialist Services. MBC provides a complemen-
tary service to D-Drills core diamond drilling and
sawing service. Through MBC, D-Drill introduced
the use of Brokk remote demolition machinery,
an important step-change in its already rigorous
health and safety policies.

Despite continuing uncertainties in the manufac-
turing sector, companies continue to sign up to
exhibit at the next CONEXPO-CON/AGG and IFPE
expositions, set for March 2011. They include
returning companies as well as new exhibitors,
from large to niche businesses across North
America and worldwide.
The co-located shows will be held March
22-26, 2011 at the Las Vegas Convention
Center in Las Vegas, USA.
Some companies have actually increased
their exhibit space even though others had to
reduce their commitment because of the econ-
omy, said Megan Tanel, AEMs vice president,
exhibitions and events. They all say they see the
value of our shows as an industry gathering place
to effciently connect with customers, especially
in these economic times.
With opening day about one year away,
CONEXPO-CON/AGG already covers more than
1.8 million net square feet of exhibits, and IFPE
is close to topping 100,000 net square feet.
Exhibit space is still available, on a frst come,
frst served basis.
For added exhibitor value, the shows bundle
a variety of services such as drayage into the
exhibit space rate. This exhibitor package plan
covers full drayage (including unloading/loading
of all crated materials and machinery and delivery
to exhibit spaces from the marshalling yard and
pick-up at show close), general stand cleaning,

The shows will again feature specialized
exhibit pavilions, including a focus on information
technology/management, and international ex-
hibit pavilions. Also, ICON Expo, with an emphasis
on the concrete products industry, is co-locating
with the shows in 2011.
For attendees, theyll be able to see the

control, Tanel said.
About 80 percent of attendees at the last
edition of CONEXPO-CON/AGG and IFPE rated
their value as excellent or very good, and
the good-to-excellent total response exceeded
97 percent. Some three-quarters of attendees
were presidents, owners, vice presidents, chief
fnancial offcers or managers.
Our shows are industry-run with a focus on
customer service; our goal is to provide a quality

Technology, Products
& Methods for:
Concerning the severe economic crisis in most parts of the
world during 2008 and 2009, most experts and forecasters
now seem to agree that the worst is behind us. However, while
we can expect continuous strong growth in the construction
industry in many emerging markets (mainly Brazil, China
and India), North America and parts of Asia may slowly
return to growth this year. In Europe, however, a notable
recovery is not expected until 2011.
Rubble Master
When it comes to the market of mobile recycling equipment,
Mr. Gerald Hanisch, founder and CEO of the Austrian
mobile recycling equipment manufacturer, Rubble Master,
summed up the business climate for his own company in
September last year by saying:
The international economic crisis caught us at the
worst possible moment imaginable a time in which we
were growing rapidly and making groundbreaking invest-
ments () We want to come out of this phase stronger and
better than ever before and are trying to fght our way back
into the game.
This analysis is now very valid for the whole recycling
equipment industry. With a new Bauma show this year,
several manufacturers are currently launching new mobile
recycling equipment to return to growth rather sooner
than later.
Concerning Rubble Master, we do not want to publish
any details about our new machine before the Bauma exhibi-
tion. But we are showing new innovations there, says Cecilia
Rathje, the companys Marketing & PR Manager.
Hartl Powercrusher
Another Austrian manufacturer, Hartl Powercrusher, is now
launching its new Powercrusher Series: PC1 up to PC6. The
entire product range has been developed to satisfy almost
all customers in their crushing and screening applications
and requirements.
In fact, the compact units PC1 (Impactor with an inlet
opening of 1010 mm) and PC2 (jaw with and inlet opening
of 1020 mm) have already been sold worldwide for some
time. And, they act as the basis for the design of the bigger
generation machines coming now.
The middle-sized PC3 (Impactor with an inlet open-
ing of 1250 mm) and PC4 (jaw with an inlet opening of
1250 mm) are especially ideal for recycling processing. Both
models have optimised transport dimensions and a very low
total weight.
These units are extremely fexible, and can be moved
very quickly from one job site to the next, where they can
be set up and ready to crush in under 30 minutes. Once in
operation, they produce up to 300 t/h depending on mate-
rial and infeed size.

Rockster
In addition, Austrian Rockster Recycler is presenting the new
Turbo Crusher R1100. This new model has 32 tons total
weight, but still features compact transport dimensions and
boasts a performance level of close to 300 t/h, adequate for
covering major transactions.
As with the earlier models, R900 and R800, the new-
est R1100 is equipped with a fully hydraulic drive system.

Furthermore, the R1100 features a two-step, 1.8 m long
pre-screener. This ensures not only a maximum pre-screening
quality, but also a further increase of the throughput rate, a
reduction of the wear costs as well as a perfect separation of
fnal material an earthy substance.
The R1100 is available as Duplex System (impact and

can be lowered hydraulically.
Therefore, for assembling the screen box on the main belt
of the machine, no additional elevating system is required.
And, the exchange of the different screens can be carried
out directly on the ground. Additionally, any material, that
may block the crushing process, (iron, for example), can be
reached and removed easily by just lowering the belt.
Sandvik
Sandvik is presenting the new QI240 tracked impact
crusher, which has been purpose-designed for the world-
wide construction, aggregates, demolition and recycling
industries.
The company states that, this model is tangible rep-
resentation of the companys commitment to servicing the
growing market for the recycling of construction materials,
and the production of high-quality aggregates from materi-
als previously seen as waste. The QI240 is currently the
frst in a whole new range of Sandvik mobile crushers and
screens that will be launched this year.
Powerscreen
Powerscreen is now launching the new Warrior 2400 as part
of the companys new product development programme,
originating from the earlier Warrior 1400 and Warrior
1800 screeners.
The 2400 model is thus extending Powerscreens
range of heavy-duty screeners to meet the needs of larger
end-users and operators in the quarrying, mining and
recycling sectors.
As a multi-purpose unit, the 2400 is a capable of han-
dling large feed sizes while remaining convenient to move
and transport. It features a heavy-duty incline screen with
a high amplitude triple-shaft drive mechanism, lending
itself to screening, scalping, two- or three-way splitting
and stockpiling materials such as aggregates, topsoil, coal,
construction, demolition waste and iron ore. The screen
will accept a wide variety of media, making it suitable for

Red Rhino
Red Rhino has been busy making changes
to the recently launched 3000 Multiform
crusher, making it even more versatile
than before. It has been reduced in size
and weight, enabling it to be ftted onto
a Bobcat. The 3000 is now available with
the Bobcat mounting fxture as well as
the Skid Steer mounting fxture.
The 3000 Multiform has a similar
crushing capability as the tracked 5000
Red Rhino, but without the engine. The
hydraulic motor can be powered from
an independent power pack, or from any
machine with an auxiliary fow of 65 litres
per minute at 138 bar.
The company is now looking forward
to the launch of the re-engineered 10 tonne
7000 series, capable of crushing in excess of 45
t/h. Red Rhino General Manager Julian Mik
said, The interest we have had in the larger
7000 series has been phenomenal, especially
from overseas. We are looking forward to
demonstrating this machine at our premises
here in Grantham very soon.
Baioni Crushing Plant
Baioni Crushing Plant has developed
a modular system consisting of three
types of tracked mobile units to be used
for primary and secondary crushing, screening and
stockpiling of aggregate materials. The tracked mobile units
can handle hard and abrasive rock as well as mineral based
demolition material.
This modular system consists of a Baitrack primary crush-
ing unit, a Baitrack sec-
ondary crushing unit
and a Baiscreen screen-
ing unit. These three
elements combine to
form a crushing and
screening system for
uniform production
in heavy conditions,
and can also be used
as stand-alone units.
The Baitrack primary
unit comes in three models with different
output capacities. They are designed for
producing aggregates for primary crushing
on quarry sites, and for recycling construc-
tion and demolition materials. They also can
be used with any type of minerals and rocks.
The crushing machine is BP Primary Jaw
Crusher in three versions (110/70B, 130/85B
and 130/100B) for production rang-
ing from 100 to 494 t/h.
The Baitrack secondary units
come in two models, the FCS91
and FCS108. The crushing machine
is the FCS series secondary cone
crusher in two versions (FCS91 and
FCS108) for production ranging
from 110 to 440 t/h.
The Baiscreen screening and
stockpiling unit is available in four
models that are named after the
screening machine. These are the
Baiscreen W400/2, Baiscreen W400/3, Baiscreen
W500/2 and Baiscreen W500/3 for production
ranging from 230 to 330 t/h.

Powered by a low-emission 310 kW Cat C13
diesel engine and weighing 58t, the LT110C is
15.6m long, 3m wide and 3.85 m high when
being transported.
Optional accessories include wireless remote
control, a dust-control system, a hydraulic ham-
mer to clear feed blockages and generator.
Kleemann
Kleemann, a member company of the Wirtgen
Group, has developed two completely new
Mobirex mobile impact crushers that are also
suitable for recycling applications.
To attain genuinely better performance,
we were not satisfed with just addressing individual com-
ponents, says Thomas Khnle,
Head of Technology at Kleemann.
The key to a real increase in per-
formance was the redesign of the
fow of material encompassing all
components.
The new material fow concept
consistently prevents narrowing of
the material stream, and the system
widths of the conveyor elements
open in the material fow direc-
tion. This allows performance values
to be attained that are unmatched in
these size classes. The smaller of the
two machines, which has a crusher
inlet opening of 1100 mm, can
handle input capacities of more than
350 t/h. The larger system, which has
an inlet opening of 1300 mm, can attain input capacities
of 450 t/h and higher.
Both machines are equipped with direct drive. A
latest-generation diesel engine transmits its power almost
loss-free via a robust fuid coupling and V-belts directly
to the fywheel of the crusher. This drive concept also
enables enormous versatility, as the rotor speed can be
adjusted in four stages. As a result, the machines are
equally well-suited for use in quarries and in recycling.
The most important new feature of machines is the
completely new impact crushers of the SHB series. They
feature many convincing new detailed solutions that are
unmatched, from the hydraulically actuated crusher inlet
in extremely robust heavy-duty cast design to the opti-
mised, steeper inlet angle, to the new blow bar fastening
system. All have a positive effect on availability.
In addition, the SHB crushers have an innovative fully
hydraulic crushing gap adjustment that can be quickly and
easily operated from the operating panel.
DSB Innocrush
Although German crusher manufacturer DSB Innocrush
is not launching any new products this year, the com-
pany is proud to present the results of its pioneering
trials in crushing and recycling a special asphalt used
in Finland.
DBS has been working closely with its Finnish part-
ner KH Koneet OY, which has supplied an Innocrush
50 and an Innoscreen 25 to one of its customers for use
in the trials.
Previously, temperature conditions in Finland have
only permitted crushing with a jaw crusher during winter
months. DSB has now set new standards by crushing and
processing asphalt in an impact mill over the entire year.
The wear costs are somewhat higher for an impact mill,
but the possibility of crushing over the entire year, com-
bined with the production of perfectly finished material,
mean a much higher profit.
Thanks to the unique crusher geometry, the In-
nocrush 50 with its 1.3 m diameter rotor, the largest
impact mill in the current range, guarantees extremely
high capacity. During the trials, 270 t/h of asphalt was
processed with a feed size up to one metre.
The downstream double deck screen separates the
material into the required fractions of 0-11 mm, 11-16
mm and 16-80 mm.
Keestrack + Omtrack
In March, Belgian manufacturer of track mobile screening
plants Keestrack N.V. acquired a major share of Omtrack
s.r.l., an Italian manufacturer of track mobile crushers.
Both companies see their market position strengthened
through the combination of their advanced product
lines.
We are adding the well established and proven mo-
bile crusher line of Omtrack to our product line of track
mobile screeners, says Klaus Elit, area sales manager at
Keestrack. The new, more complete product line allows
a further expansion of the already existing dealer and
distributor network for both companies.

regulations.
The product demonstration was located at
Clarkes Quarry in Lisnaskea, Northern Ireland,
where Nigel Irvine, Sales & Marketing Director,
introduced several new equipment layouts
illustrating new and unusual quarrying and
recycling applications.
Despite the recent poor economic condi-
tions, matched only by some equally poor local
weather conditions, this event has allowed us to
successfully introduce some key new models
and recent product developments to our dealer
network and end users, says Nigel Irvine, Sales
& Marketing Director, Terex MPE.
I r vi ne adds that havi ng aggressi vel y
expanded the companys international dealer
network, this was our largest dealer event to
date. With many new dealers in attendance,
William Tracey Group, one of the UKs recycling
and resource management operations, has turned
to Blue Scotland to design and install a tailor-made
1.5M processing plant at their Linwood waste
treatment centre.
Blue Scotlands Recycling Plant

The new recycling plant is comprised of a
number of compatible processing and materials
handling modules from Blue Scotlands range
of distributorships, including Kiverco, General
Kinematics and Nihot. A series of free-standing
feed, transfer and discharge conveyors provide
the essential linked materials fow for the process-
ing equipment, the covered picking station and
for stockpiling varied recycled waste sizes and
volumes, including fnes and topsoil. Full skirting,
impact bars, feed boots with full impact sections,
overband magnets for tramp metal extraction and
blowers for lights removal are included.
Weve worked with Blue Scotland for many
years and we know that we can rely on them
to provide the best solutions for us, says Wil-
liam Tracey Group Managing Director Michael
Tracey. Our new plant combines technologically
advanced equipment to maximise recoverable
materials and its performance certainly meets all
our expectations.
Four new Terex Finlay models
it has been the perfect opportunity to show-
case our most popular products, in real world
working conditions. The end-user feedback

The frst Sandvik branded mobile screen to be
commissioned in Australia was successfully
handed over to SEE Civil (South East Excava-
tions), which operates two quarries owned
by McGeary Bros. at Wardell in northern New
South Wales.
After extensive consultation with Precision
Screen, the exclusive agent for Sandvik mobile
crushers and screens in Australia, SEE ordered
the robust QA330 tracked screen. According to
Alan Lippiatt, SEE Quarry Manager, the Sandvik
QA330 was ideal as it easily integrated into the
existing set up at the Wardell quarry operation,
in particular, its long conveyors provided the
necessary height and clearance to feed the
existing crushers.
The Sandvik QA330 also delivers higher
production through its large screening area
and high frequency double deck screen,
Lippiatt adds.
Ross Smith, SEE Business Development
Manager, adds that the Sandvik QA330 is
very user friendly, and simple to operate and
maintain.
The quarry operation at Wardell is rather
interesting. Although the two quarries are nearby,
they produce separate products that are largely
being used for the nearby RTA Alstonville bypass
project. Materials from the Chert (quartzite)
quarry are being produced to meet the base
and sub-base specifcations, while the Argillite
Aspern Viennas Urban Lakeside, a complete
new urban development, is taking shape is

Airfeld. Approximaty 2.3 million square metres
of gross foor space will be created by the
year 2028, including 8,500 housing units for
20,000 residents and 20,000 workplaces.
The Underground line U2 will also serve the
new district by 2013. A lively urban district will
evolve, with which Vienna will make active use
of the opportunities and challenges of the EU
enlargement, aiming to set new standards with
a 21st Century city.
Wien 3420 Aspern Development AG, a sub-
sidiary of the Vienna Business Agency (WWFF)
and the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft (BIG), was
created to direct this major building project. The
consortium ARGE HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbau
GmbH/Gebrder Haider Bauunternehmung
GmbH was appointed to demolish the former
taxiways and runways.
On-site recycling
means maximum benefts
For reasons of environmental protection, and
especially due to the huge cost benefts, mobile
recycling is a key feature of this prestigious urban
development project.
HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbaugesellschaft, one of
Austrias leading construction companies and a
leader in environmental awareness, has counted
on mobile recycling with RUBBLE MASTER
Compact Recyclers since 2004 because the
high-performance impact crusher allows the
material to reused in its entirety.
Bernhard Radinger, Waste and Environment
Manager at the HABAU Group, is using the RM80
with mobile oversized grain solution once again
for this project. He says that before work began,
extensive evaluation was necessary for the over
70,000 m

site.
Vienna/Aspern Airfeld was a main centre
in the Second World War and any war relics had
to be found, Radinger says. After this work had
been completed, the job was to demolish around

and drainage blanket material.
The Sandvik QA330 was operational on
the same day as it was delivered on-site at
Wardell, and is now integral to the production
of high quality SEE Civil quarry products. Its
modern chassis design ensures in-built machine
quality and strength for maximum up-time and
productivity on-site.
The QA330 is also designed for optimum
fuel economy and low operating costs. And when
back-up and spare parts are required, Preci-
sion Screen is always there to help you out,
Lippiatt says. This relationship has been further
strengthened locally through Sandviks global
after market support and standard stock parts.
In addition to commissioning the first
Sandvik branded mobile screen in Australia,
SEE Civil has been consistently achieving frsts
through its innovation and resourcefulness. Since
its establishment in 1988, the SEE group has
grown to be a leader in its feld and specialises in
a large variety of construction projects, including
earthworks, civil, road construction, water and
sewer, hydro-transportation, dredging, quarrying,
crushing, screening, retaining walls, environ-

commercial and industrial developments.
Mobile recycling saves costs
and the environment
15,000 m

of concrete from the former airfeld
and recycle it. As a partner in the consortium we
count on cost-saving on-site recycling.
Radinger adds that HABAUs experience
with the RM80 led to its use at the Aspern
project.
The mobile impact crusher was extremely
effcient at the large-scale demolition project at
the Vienna/St. Marx slaughterhouse, for example,
and we frequently use it for inner city demolition
projects, he says. The decision was also based
on the machines outstanding performance with
this material, and the ability to produce ready-
to-use value grain in a single pass with the
OS80 mobile oversized grain separator featuring
closed-loop refeeding.
This saves us a third of the normal workfow
and expense, Radinger adds.
A record-setting assignment
HABAU was tasked to process approximately
15,000 m
3
of concrete, 20 percent of the
entire concrete at the Aspern stieby mid
October 2010. A guillotine broke the concrete
surfaces into segments. The lumps of concrete
were lifted out by excavators, pulverised down
to a maximum feed size of 50 cm, and then
put on a pile.
The feed material was then loaded into the
crushers 23 t vibro channel using an excavator
and, a wheeled loader with a 3.2 m
3
bucket.
The material is processed quickly in the impact
crusher with automatic conveying in line with
crusher workload, material and feeding type.
The patented OS80 oversize grain separator,
which is linked to the main discharge conveyor
of the crusher by quick-release levers, grades
the material cleanly to 0/32 mm. The oversized
material is then returned to the crusher inlet
where it is then crushed again.
Radinger describes the throughput of the
compact crusher as impressive, delivering
ready-to-use 0/32 mm aggregate with peaks
up to 100 t/h.

Indian author Eknath Easwaran once wrote that, Patience cant
be acquired overnight. It is just like building up a muscle. Every
day you need to work on it.
If Easwarans observation is accurate, then the worlds
manufacturers and suppliers of hydraulic breakers must be
a pretty strong and disciplined group by now, given the pro-
longed economic slowdown.
Still in the bottom
Although indications of a recovery have begun to appear in many
parts of the globe, these positive trends have mostly not yet reached
their respective construction industries.
We are still in the bottom of the crisis, observes Dick van
der Starre of FRD Europe, and we do not know when and to
which extent it will recover.
Manufacturers may be in for a long wait. According to An-
tonio Cannao of Italian breaker manufacturer Promove, We feel
the level of
global sales
wi l l stay
substantial-
ly unchanged
for the next
couple of
years, due
to general
overbuilding
activity in the re-
cent years and also
due to the effects of
the financial crisis
on the public balance
of many countries.
Along with devel-
oping their capacity for
patience, the pervasive un-
certainty has also tested the
companies commitment to the
fundamental qualities that have
long guided their growth, rather
than adopt the short-term band-
aid measures such as price cuts that
may provide immediate cash, but
sometimes lead to longer-term stability
issues. Customers expectations, in my
opinion, have not changed, Cammao
says. They look for high performing and
reliable equipment, with a good level of
technical support in terms of fast repairing
and deliveries of spare parts.
Cammao adds, however, that because
the breaker market now has an incredible
number of competitors from all over
the world, some action and focuses are
needed in order to compete in this new
jungle. Great attention to reliability and
after-sale support is the only way to retain customers al-
ready using our equipment, he says. A company must also
constantly evolve the technical features and performance of
its products, as we have with our XP line of breakers, and
keep pricing at reasonable level.
That kind of resolve has also worked in FRDs case, van
der Starre says.
From 2007 to 2009, we increased our market penetra-
tion for medium-size breakers in Spain, a very depressed
market, from 5.9 to 9.9 percent not with substantial price
reductions, but by maintaining our philosophy of high quality,
low maintenance and good performance in connection with a
stable dealer network, he says. This gives us great confdence
that when market picks up, FRD will come out of the crisis
stronger than before.
And rather than simply waiting for something to happen,
many breaker manufacturers have been working activity to
improve the quality and effciency of their products so that as

Atlas Copco boosts breaker power
For example, Atlas Copco Construction Tools has focused on
reducing the total cost of ownership of their hydraulic breakers.
Only one third of the total lifecycle cost is the investment
itself, explains Torsten Ahr, the companys Marketing Manager
Hydraulic Attachments. The rest is operator cost, energy con-
sumption, parts wear, and so forth.
Evidence of Atlas Copcos efforts can be found in three new
heavy hydraulic breaker models. The HB 2000, with its service
weight of 2000 kg, offers 10% more power than its predecessor, the
HB 200. The new 3100 kg HB 3100 and 4700 kg HB 4700 de-
liver 5% and 13% more power than their predecessor models.
All three breakers offer an improved power-to-weight ratio,
enabling smaller attachments and carrier units to do more work.
They are also equipped with Atlas Copcos PowerAdapt system,
which automatically shuts off the breaker in case of an overpower-
ing through the carrier.
In order to ensure that our customers can make full use of
the equipment in terms of effciency and maximum power, this
decision was a logical step, Ahr says.
Other features of Atlas Copcos heavy-duty hydraulic breaker
line are also found in the three new models. The VibroSilenced
System protects operators against noise and vibrations, while
AutoControl adapts the blow frequency and impact energy to
the rock hardness as well as the integrated automatic lubrication
system ContiLube II.
With StartSelect the operator can infuence the starting
and shutdown behaviour of the hydraulic breaker. The optional
DustProtector protects the hydraulic breaker against dust and rock
particles penetrating the lower breaker part.

FRD FX breakers offer quieter operation
FRD has introduced the fve-model FX series hydraulic break-
ers, which feature a newly designed monobloc cylinder without
through bolts, easy exchangeable wear parts, and more power, all
with a reduction in noise levels.
The FX series owe their quieter performance to FRDs collab-
orative research with the Technical University of Tokyo. An entirely
new impact mechanism minimizes the discharge of vibration to
the excavator, which in turn reduces vibration stress experienced
by operators. In addition, the combination of a redesigned body,
fully closed frame with rubber plugged service points and new,
worldwide patented rod arrangement considerably reduce sound
levels. All FX series models are available with Standard, Silent,
and Extra-Silent frame designs.
Designed for mini-excavators from 0,5 to 7 tonnes, FRDs
FX series hydraulic breakers have an operation weight of 66 to 300
kg. All are equipped with an adjustable fow and pressure device,
which secures the optimum interaction between attachment and
excavator at all times. The FX series is also equipped with easy
exchangeable, long-lasting parts. Both the front bushing and rod
are easily accessed for quick replacement.

include a high-quality pis-
ton and cylinder manufac-
tured to precise tolerances,
and an advanced dampen-
ing system that protects
the breakers against blank

Sandviks revolutionary
range of compact breakers
combines simplicity and cost
effectiveness, with a class-lead-
ing power-to-weight ratio. The
BR111, BR222 and BR333 are
designed to be matched with
carriers in the 0,8 to 4 tonne
range.
All three have a streamlined
and lightweight design that makes
them ideally suited to applications
in confned spaces, while constant
blow energy maximizes the impact
energy regardless of oil fow. Capable
of accepting a wide range of oil fows,
excellent back pressure acceptance
and fange top mounting, the new
models possess the functionality to
be easily installed on a wide range of
mini-excavators, skid steer loaders, and
other compact carriers.
With no tie rods, and only two
moving parts, the new Sandvik compact
breakers minimize maintenance, ownership
and operating costs. The models require no periodical
gas recharging, and can be resealed in just 45 minutes.
The integrated single lower tool bushing can be replaced
in just 10 minutes for faster servicing and increased op-
erational uptime.
Durable Montabert Blue Line breakers
To address the needs of entry-level hydraulic breaker users,
Montabert has added the Blue Line range that features a simple,
cost-effective design offering high performance and effciency,
durability and easy serviceability.
The high performance offered by the Blue Line breakers
is based around a patented main valve and an energy recovery
system. The main valve and the nitrogen chamber accumula-
tor control the movements of the piston, increasing the overall
performance and effciency through optimisation of the strike
power of the breaker. The energy recovery system increases
the strike power by using the energy generated by the piston
rebound. This system allows an automatic increase of the breakers
frequency when used on hard materials.
The frst model in the Blue Line range is the 1.7 tonne
XL1700 breaker, which provides blow energy of 3400 J, a
frequency of 600 blows/min and a tool diameter of 137 mm.
The XL1700 can be used with excavators providing a minimum
to maximum fow range of 100 to 150 l/min, and an operating
pressure of 180 bars.
Allied Hy-Ram hammer boasts effciency, auto-
matic functions
In the hydraulic hammer category, Allied Construction Products
has introduced the Hy-Ram HR Series hydraulic impact ham-
mer. Based on the same proven design of other Allied products,
the Hy-Ram offers a host of features for improved effciency,
including its innovative oil and gas operation.
The Allied design of gas-assist using low pressure nitrogen
improves the tools effciency by reducing demand on the carriers
hydraulic system. This eliminates dependency on hydraulic ac-
cumulators, which are used solely to eliminate hydraulic spikes.
Pressurized oil is always present at the bottom of the piston, which
prevents internal cavitation.
Allied Hy-Rams can also be equipped with an optional
AutoLube mounted on the hammer housing. This automatic
system dispenses lubricant by the hammers vibration. The
AutoLube uses a high-grade chisel paste in handy replaceable
cartridges
The Hy-Rams long-stroke design minimizes recoil, reduces
vibration and eliminates mechanical springs. Medium and large
models in the Hy-Ram series also have an automatic Auto-Stop
feature that prevents blank-fring once the demolition tool has
penetrated the material being broken, and downpressure is no
longer applied.
The Allied Hy-Ram hammers also feature a durable housing
design that suspends the internal working body inside a full-box
enclosure to protect the tool, reduce noise and minimize vibration
and wear to the carrier. The durable housing design is enclosed
at the bottom, and incorporates a heavy-duty Hardox rock
claw. Shock-absorbing polyurethane acoustical inserts increase
carrier endurance
The Autocontrol feature in Hy-Ram models HR150
through HR 1200 automatically regulate blow energy and fre-
quency , while the Autogrease system in models HR 200 through
HR 1200 eliminates the need for manual greasing. The Hy Ram
HR 75 and larger models feature an Accumulator that reduces
stress on hydraulic components.
The large, medium, small and mini-size Hy-Ram models are
available in 12 different models, ranging from working weights of
265 to 8,375 pounds and tool diameters of 1.77 to 6.88 inches.
Allied offers more than 2,500 installation kits to ft the Hy-Ram
to virtually every make and model of carrier.
FRDs XCENTRIC Ripper
Another new hydraulic hammer is FRDs excavator-mounted
XCENTRIC Ripper, which was developed in cooperation
with the Spanish engineering and manufacturing company
Grado Cero.
The XCENTRIC Ripper is designed to perform excavation
and demolition in less time, for lower cost and with a minimum
of noise. The tool features a patented reaction power accumula-
tion technology, making it more productive in most applications
then any hydraulic hammer available in the market.
Whats more, the XCENTRIC Ripper can work in the
most severe of conditions in tunnels, foundations and under
water without the need for special modifcations. A wide range
of XCENTRIC Ripper models will be available, with 10 different
sizes for excavators from 2 to 85 tonnes.

Hilti redefnes pneumatic breakers
Many equipment companies have also upgraded their
pneumatic breaker products. The electro-pneumatic
breakers hit the market a little over 15 years ago, greatly in
response to the markets request for breaking concrete in
a manner with fewer accessories (compressors and hoses,
etc.) that the hydraulic breakers and air tools need to
operate, says Bret Baldwin, Hiltis Building Construc-
tion Trade Manager. Additionally, for indoor work,
electro-pneumatics became the tool of choice.
The latest iteration in that technology is Hiltis
new TE 3000-AVR Breaker, which boasts the power
of an air tool, at the same weight level, without
the need for an air compressor to deliver explosive
breaking power and exceptional mobility.
Weighing 65 pounds, the TE 3000-AVR
delivers 50 foot-pounds of impact energy to break
up to six tons of material per hour, at rate compa-
rable with a 60- to 65-pound air tool. The TE
3000-AVR also offers contractors easy, fexible
operation from anywhere on the jobsite. Be-
cause it does not require an air compressor, the TE 3000-AVR
allows contractors to have their tool set up and working before
the compressor is even towed to the location and hooked up.
For maximum versatility, the TE 3000-AVR accepts standard
1-1/8 inch chisels, same as air-powered tools.
In addition, the TE 3000-AVR incorporates Hiltis sub-
chassis active vibration reduction (AVR) system to dramatically
cut the vibration passed along to the operator during operation,
reducing fatigue and allowing them to work longer. An active
cooling system reduces wear and tear on the motor, electronics
and hammering mechanism. And, the TE 3000-AVR features
a brushless SR motor that eliminates the need to replace carbon
brushes allowing longer intervals between service and twice
the expected motor life.
For smaller applications, theres Hiltis new TE1500-AVR.
Ideal for everything from concrete foundation removal to dig-
ging in clay, to penetrations for pipes and electrical boxes, The
TE1500-AVR also offers extended durability.
With 22 foot-pounds of impact energy generated by a
1,800-watt motor, the TE 1500-AVR delivers up to 1,950 blows
per minute to effciently break up foors, slabs or foundations.
However, all that power doesnt come at the expense of opera-
tor comfort. The TE 1500-AVR offers a best-in-class weight-
to-power ratio, along with Hiltis sub-chassis active vibration
reduction (AVR) system that dramatically cuts the vibration

felt by the operator. This advanced design allows the operator to
work longer and be more productive.
Hilti also extended the defnition of durability with the
TE 1500-AVR. An active cooling system reduces wear and
tear on the motor, electronics and hammering mechanism.
Three-chamber sealing keeps dust out of the tool for longer
life with fewer breakdowns. Also, the TE 1500-AVR features a
brushless SR motor that eliminates the need to replace carbon
brushes allowing longer intervals between service and twice
the expected tool life.
For versatility, the TE 1500-AVR is compatible with a
variety of TE-SP polygon self-sharpening chisels, which provide
strong breaking power and stick less in concrete and masonry.
Also compatible with the new breakers is the Hilti TE DRS-B
Dust Removal System, which reduces cleanup time and captures
dust for a better working environment. Hiltis TE 1500-AVR is
also backed by Hilti Lifetime Service, a unique service agreement
that includes two years of no-cost coverage. Baldwin adds that
for 2010 and beyond, the market is asking for more, mainly a
method for breaking concrete that is more productive, and a tool
that is easier to use and maintain, and that cost less overall to
operate. Hiltis response is the launching of its TE 3000.
Chicago Pneumatic
provides handheld performance
Chicago Pneumatic has launched the new CP 0112, CP 0112
S and CP 0112 EX handheld pneumatic breakers, all of which
feature an upgraded valve system that produces a 15% increase
in performance compared with companys previous CP 0111
series.
The CP 0112 range builds on the proven features of its
predecessor in many other ways. The forgings are made of al-
loy steel to increase durability, while the four-bolt back head
withstands rugged use. An integral oiler provides continuous
lubrication. In addition, the CP 0112 series are the lightest
handheld breakers in the Chicago Pneumatic range, weighing
from 13.5 to 16 kg. They are especially well suited to situations
where easy handling and weight restrictions are important issues.
The CP 0112 can be used in light demolition applications (e.g.,
foors, pavement, frozen ground and masonry walls). The more
specialized CP 0112 EX boasts an extended handle, making it
ideal for light trenching applications. Both feature the 1 x 4
North American hexagonal shank. For applications where a
quieter tool is helpful, the CP 0112 S is a silenced version of
the new series featuring the 25 x 108 mm standard ISO shank
used outside Northern America. The CP 0112 S breaker is
also CE-approved.

It is rather amazing that it is already time for the mega-show
Bauma. This is one show that truly doesnt disappoint anyone
who attends. And this year, everything is bigger. The number
of exhibitors are well over 3200 companies, and the volume
of exhibition space has been increased to 555,000 m
2
.
Although most of the worlds markets are either in the
middle of or coming out of the worst economic crisis in
years, Bauma is more focused on what contractors in the
industry need to improve their work. Thats why it continues
to grow and set new records of exhibitors, exhibition area
and number of international visitors. And if previous shows
are any indicator, the number of visitors will also increase
this time.
Bauma 2010 opens on Monday 19 April and closes on
Sunday 25 April, and will be the biggest edition ever. The
increases in exhibitors and exhibition space are a result of
growing interest from countries such as China, Turkey and
India. In some cases we have received double the number
of requests for exhibition space from these countries than in
2007, says exhibition director Georg Moller.
Exhibitors from Europe, for example, Italy, Great Britain
and the Netherlands, will again be taking the top slots in
Baumas international exhibitor ranking. All this is a strong
indicator that the industry worldwide is looking forward
with confdence to the leading world trade fair.
It is time again for
Bauma, the global
mega-show for con-
struction machinery
and equipment. This
time, the show is
expected to be even
bigger in the number
of exhibitors, exhibi-
tion space and visi-
tors. PDi Magazine
will be there in hall
A1, stand number
132.
PDi 2-2010 is your guide
The issue of PDi that you are holding is the Bauma show issue.
It was distributed before the show, and is being handed out at the
PDi booth in hall 1, booth number 132, as well as at the Bauma
international press stand.
This entire issue is flled with information about Baumas
exhibitors and the new products they are launching at the show.
But PDi is only focusing on exhibitors that are related to the
product areas covered by this magazine. Even though with this
limitation, we cannot guarantee that we are able to cover every-
thing. Still, we hope that PDi issue 2-2010 will be a good and
useful guide about the news on the market, even if you are not
visiting Bauma 2010.
Prospects for the building and construction
industry worldwide in 2010
Thanks to extensive government economic stimulus programmes,
aimed to a considerable extent at the construction sector, activity
in construction has picked up in most industrial and emerging
countries than the economy as a whole. It is expected that most
countries will see a revival in activity in the building and construc-
tion sector in 2010, with accelerated growth to follow in 2011.

In Europe, a slight fall of 1% in building production is still

expected in 2010. But this is due solely to the poor development in
commercial construction. Civil engineering, by contrast, is expected
to grow by 2.7%, mainly because of the extensive economic stimulus
programmes in many EU member states. In 2011, Europe-wide
building investment is predicted to expand by 2%, again driven by
3% increased investment in civil engineering projects. The slight
downturn in overall production in 2010 is due to the negative effect
from countries such as Spain, Ireland, Finland and Portugal, where
prices have fallen dramatically following the end of the boom in
residential property. In the reform economies of Central Europe,
however, growth in construction activity is set to expand by 6% as
early as 2010, accelerating to 10% in 2011. The engine behind this
growth will continue to be Poland.
Russia
Russia has also been affected by the international economic crisis,
coupled in this case with rapidly falling income for the state from
energy exports, a result of falling prices on the world market. Never-
theless, building activity overall has stayed stable in 2009. However,
a downturn of around 5% is expected for 2010, followed in 2011
by modest growth.
USA
At around EUR730 billion, the building and construction market
in the US remains the most important in the world. Following a
downturn in the current year, real GDP is expected to rise again
in 2010 by 1.5%. This means the US is emerging from recession
more quickly than generally expected. Following the severe drop in
building production in 2007 to 2009, a slight increase is expected
next year, picking up strength in 2011. Government building activ-
ity will increase, particularly in civil engineering projects, thanks to
the economic stimulus programmes. New residential construction
is expected to stabilise, while a more marked downturn is expected
in commercial construction.
China
Overall China is coming through the global economic crisis much
better than the industrialised and emerging economies. Economic
research institutes are expecting real GDP in China to grow by 8%
in both 2009 and 2010. In building investment, the growth is likely
to be slightly higher still as the Chinese government is holding frmly
to its ambitious investment programme in infrastructure. The strong
dynamism on the Chinese construction market is also expected to
continue overall.
India
The Indian construction market is not of the same size as other
markets, with the level of investment in the industry in 2008 com-
ing in at around EUR130 billion. However, its rate of growth was
almost as impressive as that of China. Between 1998 and 2008
activity in building and construction rose by around 140%, and
this dynamic pace is set to continue. According to forecasts by the
economic research institutes, real economic output in India is set
to expand by 6% in both 2009 and 2010. In the current fve-year
plan to 2012, around EUR330 billion is being invested in the
expansion of the countrys road and rail network, the construction
of new sea ports and airports, and in improving energy and water
supplies. During this period, growth in investment in construction
is expected to reach around 10% per annum.
Specialty construction
sectors in the spotlight
But what about demolition, recycling, concrete sawing and
drilling, concrete foor grinding and polishing equipment and
related products? PDi believes visitors to Bauma will not be dis-
appointed. Most of the players will be there, this time with even
bigger stands. Most of the manufacturers of concrete sawing and
drilling, concrete foor grinding and polishing, and all products
related to these sectors will, as usual be located in hall A1 or in
the nearby halls. However, demolition and recycling equipment
is more spread out.
Starting with this page and on the following 29 pages you
fnd brief summaries of all the new products that will be launched
at Bauma related to the sectors covered by PDi that have come to
our attention. The presentations are published in alphabetic order,
and not divided in product sectors. Starting on this spread you also
fnd an exhibitor list with stand numbers for your service.

Adamas
The Dutch manufacturer Adamas is well-known as a European
supplier of diamond tools and equipment for fast and easy access
on the worksite. New from Adamas right now is the Eazy Saw rail
guided handsaw. According to Adamas, the new saw is 100% safe
and can cut 21 cm in concrete and brickwork without fatiguing the
operator. For smaller projects, the Eazy Saw is the perfect alternative
for petrol cut-off saws, chain- and ring saws.
Since December of last year, Adamas has experienced the effects
of the construction industrys global downturn. But instead of sitting
back and hoping for the best, Adamas has used the current situation
as an opportunity for its R&D engineers to come up with something
special to generate sales in these diffcult times.
The head offce of Adamas is located in The Netherlands,
where electric hand sawing has been extremely popular since the
early 1980s. Electric wood saws are usually adapted for wet cutting
in concrete with 300 or 350mm diamond saw blades, and used
for small alterations and renovation jobs.
As machines became more powerful in the last 10 years,
contractors modifed them to cut with 500mm saw blades up
to a depth of 20cm in concrete and brickwork. This situation was
regarded as unsafe and therefore forbidden by health & safety organi-
sations. Contractors using these machines were heavily fned.
Recent years have seen increasing demand for handheld electric
saws for cutting jobs up to 20cm, but no supplier had the right prod-
uct. Although electric wall saws are capable of cutting up to 20 cm
deep, they are regarded as too big and heavy for these small jobs.
Adamas sales representatives in the Netherlands and Belgium
recognized this lingering market demand and used it to launch the
R&D project. Nine months of thinking, design development and
fne tuning led to an innovative prototype named the Eazy Saw.
The Eazy Saw consists of a 2200 Watt, 230 V electric drive
motor protected against overload by a thermal relay and a slip
clutch. The aluminium gear case is integrated in the saw arm, which
connects to a carriage with a patented hinge construction.
This hinge is the unique part of the Eazy Saw. It is robust and
rigid, and guides the saw blade perfectly straight with
minimum friction between the wall and saw blade
centre. That allows the relatively small motor to
power concrete cuts of up to 21 cm in deep
with no risk of kickback should the blade
become jammed.
The carriage guides the Eazy Saw
over an aluminium track that is bolted
to the wall. Tracks are available in
lengths of 1, 3 and 2,3 meters, and
have integrated double spirit levels
and rubber bumpers. Spacer plates
are available for uneven walls.
The cutting process always
starts with a 350mm saw
blade, after which a 450mm
or 540mm saw blade can be
mounted. Along with minimizing
the physical load on the operator,
the hinge permits plunge cuts in
steps of up to 5 cm.
Cooling water for the saw blade
runs through the gear case, and is ef-
fciently distributed via the saw shaft to
minimize consumption. An ergonomic
rubber grip and a spray control cover on
the blade guard prevent excessive sprays of
water onto the wall, foor and operator, greatly
reducing cleaning time.
Adamas offcially introduced the Eazy Saw
in early November at a special exhibition for
diamond drilling and cutting contractors in The Netherlands.
The response was very positive. The contractors claimed that the
Eazy Saw flls the gap between hand held saws and mini wall saws.
Practice tests show that the Eazy Saw is much easier to install than
a wall saw that cuts two to three times slower.
The Eazy Saw will make its international debut at BAUMA
2010 in Hall A1-144.
Adamas is also launching a dust reduction device called Hur-
ricane. The device reduces dust with water mist. The water mist is
adjustable and protects the operators from harmful concrete dust
on the building site.

CombiCutter.
Weighing 6.5 tonnes, the new product is the
heaviest cutter in the line and is designed for carrier
units of the 58 to 85 tonne class. The CC 6000s de-
sign is also in line with other CombiCutter models.
The system with the two movable jaws and the two
lifting cylinders has stood the test of time. It offers a
constantly high crushing force throughout the entire
closing process. And the combination of a single and
double blade jaw arm provides maximum stability even
under extreme loads.
Universal jaws and steel cutting jaws are available for
the CC 6000, which has been designed for heavy-duty
industrial, bridge and building demolition jobs. Both cut-
ter jaws can be ftted and removed as one unit because the
coupling and positioning system holds both jaws together
even after they have been removed. The cutter jaws, blades
and teeth can be changed on site.
Atlas Copco will also introduce the new hydraulic
CombiCutter CC 650 with hydraulic rotation device. With
its service weight of 630kg, the new CC 650 is a match for
carriers in the 6-12 tonne weight class. The hydraulic rota-
tion device allows endless 360 rotation of the attachment
and quick and easy positioning of the CombiCutter, which
has 45 tonnes of crushing force. The CC 650, which replaces
the CC 550, can be used for light duty demolition work, and for
internal reconstruction and gutting.
Atlas Copco is also launching four new handheld hydraulic
breakers with improved vibration characteristics. The handheld
hydraulic breakers have just two moving parts. There is minimal
wear and very few parts to service as moving parts operate in oil.
Among these new hydraulic breakers is the model HB 3100
with PowerAdapt and optimized box design. PowerAdapt is a sys-
tem that shuts down the hydraulic breaker in
case the oil pressure becomes too high. This
feature is particularly valuable if there is an
improper carrier oil pressure setting. Conven-
tional pressure relief valves used in hydraulic
breakers continuously drain oil into the tank
and waste energy. This affects the effciency
and proftability of the equipment.
The improved hydraulic breaker guide
system provides a better stability and resis-
tance. The Non-Dust version of the HB
3100 is furnished with the all-round wear
protection that is already featured in all of
the dust versions of the HB series of hy-
draulic breakers. With its service weight of
approximately 3.1 tonnes, the HB 3100 can
be attached to carriers of the 30 to 52 tonne
class. All proven features of Atlas Copcos heavy-duty hydraulic
breaker line are also found in the new HB 3100,
which replaces the HB 3000.
Atlas Copco will also show the new series of
Atlas Copco Cobra petrol drill and breakers,
which was launched in January 2010. These
new tools meet the stricter requirements of
exhaust emissions set by the US Environmental
Protection Agency.
Purchasers of Atlas Copco equipment will
also be pleased to learn that the companys 1+2
programme extended warranty is now being of-
fered for heavy hydraulic breakers. The programme
includes a one-year standard warranty, plus two years free
additional warranty.

Blastrac with Diamatic
A company that is raising its profle in the industry
is the US manufacturer Blastrac, which is using this
increased attention to promote its Diamatic brand.
Since World of Concrete 2009, we have seen a num-
ber of new products under both names. At Bauma,
visitors can view the newest in a line of economical,
highly productive shot blasters, foor grinders and
polishing machines. Blastrac will also introduce
a completely new grinding line that refects both
manufacturing quality and the most advanced, complete
concrete grinding and polishing system in the industry
today.
In 2009, Blastrac restructured its manufacturing and
sales operations, and experienced a decline in overall sales.
However, the company expects to recoup the majority
of that decline in 2010, in part because of its growing
product line.
Diamatic launched a number of new
products or upgrades to existing products
during the World of Concrete. New
products include a planetary grinder,
edger, micro-polisher and vacuum.
The company also introduced a new,
walk-behind planing machine, which
features a gang saw diamond for plan-
ing down groves, exposing aggregate, or
levelling a foor that has previously been
remodelled. A texturing and pavement
preservation product line, featuring
new maintenance chemicals, densifers
and colours/dyes, was also released in
January 2010.
The whole idea is to position our-
selves as one of the top players in the polishing segment,

Breaker Technology
Breaker Technology Inc. (BTI), has for decades been one of the
largest suppliers of equipment and services for the construction,
aggregate, demolition and mining industries. Applications range
from primary and secondary sites involved in construction, demoli-
tion or recycling, to quarries and underground mining operations
such as scaling and explosives loading.
Technology plays a critical role in the companys continued
successes. BTI enjoys a reputation for engineering products with
the most advanced technologies available, yet the resulting systems
are remarkably easy to use. Its breaker systems, for example, literally
have benchmarked reliability and performance across a broad range
of applications. Similarly, its hydraulic breakers use sophisticated
technology to produce a simple design. With only two internal
moving parts, this line of breakers and attachments makes the
operation of hydraulic equipment easy, fexible and reliable. Field-
proven and customer-sanctioned, BTI products are enthusiastically
accepted as the standard for the industries they serve.
In the spring of 1997 BTI made a commitment to implement
a formal Quality Assurance System. On November 6, 1998 the
facilities in Thornbury Ontario, and Riverside California were
certifed to ISO 9001:1994.
In 2000, the International Standards Organization ( ISO )
revised the Standard to emphasize requirements for a Quality Man-
agement System rather than a Quality Assurance System. BTI made
the transition to the ISO 9001:2000 Standard in June of 2001,
receiving registration in October 2001, certifcate #Q2233.
BTIs commitment to improve business performance, produc-
tivity and enhance customer satisfaction is refected in this focus
on continual improvement.
At Bauma 2010 BTI will show their latest developments in
terms of among other demolition equipment.

Bobcat
Bobcat compact equipment, a member of the newly formed
global Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment Group, will
introduce several new products at Bauma (Open Air, Stand N
F6 601/602/3).
Making their debut at Bauma will be the E45 and E50 zero
tail swing (ZTS) mini-excavators, which provide new exceptional
performance levels in the 4- to 6-tonne mini-excavator category.
Equipped with cab and bucket, the E45 has an operating
weight of 4634 kg and offers a maximum digging depth of 3300
mm. The E50, equipped with cab and bucket, has an operating
weight of 4905 kg and a maximum digging depth of 3524 mm.
Both models also offer fuel economy and abundant power.
The E45 is powered by the 4-cylinder Kubota V2403-M-
DI-TE38-BC-5, producing 30.2 kW net per
SAE J1349 of output power at
2200 RPM. This results i n
breakout
forces
of 28.0 kN
in the dipper arm and 35.1
kN at the bucket, for a ground-level
lifting capacity of 2369 kg.
Powering the E50 is the Kubota V2403-M-DI-
TE38-BC-4 turbo-charged Tier III diesel engines,
which produces 35.4 kW of output power, and
breakout forces of 30.4 kN in the dipper arm
and 41.2 kN. Ground-level lifting capacity
is 2778 kg.
Bobcat is also launching four new rotary
telehandler models to complement its exist-
ing 12-model range of rigid-frame telehandlers.
Another new product is the Bobcat S650 loader, which is the
frst of a new generation of machines that revolutionises the design
of skid-steer and compact tracked loaders worldwide. The vertical
lift path S650 loader has an operating weight of 3777 kg, a rated
operating capacity of 1220 kg and a tipping load of 2440 kg.
The new-generation Bobcat loaders offer several innova-
tive features. Topping the list is a spacious new Premium Cab
located in a new forward position that provides a 30% increase
in all-around visibility for the operator. Also enhancing operator
visibility are a 40% larger door and redesigned top, side and
rear windows.
The Premium Cab allows operators to customize their work-
ing environment, with its fully adjustable seat and suspension,
and an improved heating and air conditioning system. Optional
selectable joystick controls are also available.
As with all new-generation loaders, the S650 offers a sig-
nifcant increase in power and hydraulic performance to boost
productivity, enhance attachment performance and produce in
faster cycle times. Powered by an effcient Kubota V3307-DI-
TE3 55.4 kW Stage IIIA diesel engine, the S650 has a standard
hydraulic fow of 87.1 l/min, with an optional high fow of 115.5
l/min. Able to travel at speeds up to 19.8 km/h, the loaders trac-
tion is 15 to 20 percent greater than previous comparable models
for greater pushing and digging power.
The S650 has a height of 2065 mm, with an 1880 m wide,
3474 mm long bucket. The bucket hinge pin height is 3149
mm. Its innovative engineering design helps increase uptime by
providing for simplifed maintenance and serviceability.
Bobcat has also introduced the new TR05 Tilt-Rotator for its
E32 and E35 excavators, both of which will be shown at Bauma.
The TR05 Tilt-Rotator helps maximise an excavators productivity
and versatility with its easy adaptability to a wide range of attach-
ments such as grading and digging buckets, cable buckets, asphalt
cutters, ripper teeth and hydraulic grabs.
Bobcat adapted the proven Plug-and-Play technology from
its compact loaders to ensure maximum precision and effciency
for the TR05 Tilt-Rotator. For example, a built-in Attachment
Control Device (ACD) receives its information from a control-
ler in the machine via the same type of 7-pin connection. The
standard joysticks on the excavator are replaced with dedicated
Tilt-Rotator joysticks, which incorporate all additional functions
and allow the operator to engage or disengage the Tilt-Rotator
functions safely and easily. Unlike other systems on the market,
the Tilt-Rotator can be operated immediately upon installation
of the Deluxe Control kit (including the joysticks and control-
ler) on the excavator. No calibration or fne-tuning is needed
on the job site.
Bobcat will also show its extended range of bucket attach-
ments with the launch of a new family of skeleton buckets for
Bobcat compact loaders and mini-excavators.
The skeleton buckets are ideal for landscaping and general
site clean-up applications. They are also suitable for demolition
and refurbishment work, recycling and beach-cleaning.
Four new skeleton buckets, ranging in width from 157 to
208 cm, cover most of the machines in the Bobcat compact loader
range as well as the T2250 telehandler.
For 1.5- to 8-tonne Bobcat mini-excavators, there is a wide
selection of skeleton buckets to ft pin-on, Klac and Lehnhoff
couplers. The skeleton buckets feature bolt-on teeth, with
space between tines varying from 57 to 71 mm, depending
on the bucket size.

three in Great Britain, one in Germany, and two in
Australia, including the newest warehouse facility in
Kalgoorlie. The corporation is currently overseen by F.
Michael Brunner, President, the fourth generation of the
Brunner Family to oversee operations.
Brunner & Lay products are divided into three major
categories: tools used for the demolition or cutting of concrete
and stone; drill steels and carbide tipped bits used to drill
blast holes in quarries, mines, and construction projects; and
small chipping and electric hammer tools, which are used by
the general construction trade.
It is with great pride that the Brunner & Lay organization
can point to the many wonderful highways, dams, airfelds, mines
and quarries and national monuments that its products
have helped shape. Some of these well-known

Cedima
Since 1984, Cedima GmbH from Celle has been developing and
distributing diamond tools and machines for the construction
industry. Having collected design and operational know-how for
many years, the company today produces a variety of diamond
tools and machines offering unequalled opportunities for improved
productivity.
The products are exported in more than 50 countries. Various
distributors and service partnerships throughout the world help
keeping delivery and service times as short as possible. In Germany,
a powerful sales force team takes care of our customers needs.
Quality is one of Cedimas most important maxim. Business
processes consequently directed to quality assurance have become
a matter of course. These efforts have been rewarded already in
1997 with the certifcation as per DIN ISO 9001.
In Celle, a highly qualifed team constantly works to provide
the suitable tool for each material. The samples collected worldwide
by both customers and staff lining the shelves of our research facil-
ity. In a laboratory equipped with the latest technology the
composition of the samples is examined, thus gaining
necessary information for the development of a suc-
cessful diamond tool.
There will be a line of products in the Cedima stand
at Bauma, led by the launch of a new way to eliminate over
cuts.
Creating rectangular cuts in brickwork or ferroconcrete
walls is part of the daily challenge of professionals in drilling and
sawing. Generally, these cuts are generated with wall saws. Due
to the geometry of a diamond saw blade, however, overlaps can
occur on the edges that need to be closed after the operations.
This process is not always easy, given the size of the overlap and
the weight of the saw.
Generally in these cases, operators drill holes in the corners
and chisel out the remaining curves afterward. Cedima GmbH
now offers a more effcient solution that utilizes a high-frequency
electric chain saw and wall saw, resulting in a clean cut-out without
a subsequent treatment (see article page 78 for more info).

Conjet range and new prod-
ucts
The hydrodemolition machinery
manufacturer Conjet will show its
new Robot 324 and 365 MPA as well
as the new Jetframe Nalta at Bauma. Some of
the new features of the Robot 324 are a completely
new front with oscillating cassette and feed beam. This
makes it possible to mount the arm with 300 mm offset
on both sides, which increases the reach on mainly
vertical surfaces including below the robot. The angle
of attack can be set to 45, which will improve
the reach into corners. The front end of the robot
has a more compact design so that it can be used
in tighter areas. The feed beam can be tilted from
-10 to 90, which means that the robot can perform
hydrodemolition in front.
In addition, the Robot 324 and 365 features an upgraded
control system that offers absolute position sensors. Another
option is the ability to ft a mast on the Robot for extended reach
below the robot.
Conjet will also show the new Jeframe 101 Nalta at Bauma.
Conjet Nalta is the worlds smallest and lightest hydrodemolition
unit. It replaces the dangerous and far less productive hand-lancing
method of hydrodemolition. Instead, the Nalta operator remotely
controls all functions of the Jetframe 101 a safe distance from the
working area.

Demarec
Demarec, the Dutch manufacturer of demolition and re-
cycling equipment will introduce the Demarec DRS-75,
the frst model of a complete new generation of shears,
at Bauma. The new Demarec 360 rotating shear is
suitable for 45-65 tonne excavators, and for 60-80 tonne
excavators when ftted to the boom.
A key objective behind the development of the new
product was to achieve extremely powerful shears with a
low weight. This has resulted in an exceptional weight/
force ratio of about 6.9 tonnes, and a maximum shear
force of over 10,500 kN. With these specifcations, the
DRS-75 is in the top segment of the market. Another
characteristic of the new concept is its compact de-
sign, whereby a single cylinder with branched axle
journals is mounted in the frame.
Demarec is also using Bauma to launch its
new range of demolition shears in the Classes
25, 30 and 45. The new demolition products
consist of rotating crushers, rotating Combi
shears and rotating demolition shears. The
25 series is suitable for excavators of 16-
25 tonnes, the 30 series for excavators
of 20-35 tonnes and the 45 series for
excavators with a weight of 30-50
tonnes. The new dedicated demolition
model is ideal for combination with
hydraulic quick change systems that
involve coupling the hose connec-
tion. This includes systems such
as Oil-Quick, Likufx, Vario-Lock
and Riedelberger.

Demco Technic
In late 2009, Demco Technic AG launched a new core drilling
system, which continued its Italian series of drill rigs. The system,
called NINO, is a lightweight professional set-up designed to drill
diameters of up to 170 mm. The rig is notable for its excellent
user friendliness, a result of the effective two-way communication
between the manufacturer and customers.
Weighing a mere 8 kg, the feather-light NINO is equipped
with roller guides that enable smooth movement of the feeder.
The rig stand can be inclined up to a 45 tilt for comfortable angle
drilling. An optional hand-crank can be attached left or right of the
feeder, thus further increasing the systems fexibility onsite.
The NINO system is available in two versions that differ in
the way the motor is fastened to the rigeither with a 60mm
tightening device compatible with most makes of drill
motors, or with a fat coupling plate to bolt the motor
straight on to the rig.
Demco will show this innovative product together
with its range of high-cycle wall saws, named Cobra, Gamma
and Vector, and with their automatic drilling system, Subito. An-
other novelty on display will be the Cobra Caddy for easy access
to and on the work site.

combustion system. Emissions are well below phase III regulatory
limits, and fuel consumption is about 7% less when compared
to the DL400. The engine develops 209 kW (284 HP) at 2000
rpm, and offers a maximum torque of 148 kg.m at 1400 rpm,
for optimal traction and breakout force in loading-transport-
handling applications.
Doosan is also launching a new line of hydraulic breaker at
Bauma. Details on the breaker range can be found in the special

Dr. Schulze
Dr.Schulze GmbH is a German manufacturer of machinery and
diamond tools for construction and stone jobs, with 25 years of
experience in the business. The company owns four plants in
Germany where it produces all its concrete sawing equipment
and tools. Dr.Schulze is particularly known for its Meissner
kombi systems, which allow the contractor to switch between
various drilling and sawing operations virtually in no time. But it
is another sawing solution from Dr.Schulze that is in the spotlight
right now: hydraulic wall sawing system SW800, soon to be
showcased at BAUMA. Andrei Bushmarin reports.
Dr.Schulzes hydraulically-driven SW800 is designed for wall
sawing with 800 to 1600 mm blades. Equipped with a swivel
lever, the is powered by an A23 hydraulic power pack. Two of
the well-acknowledged advantages of hydraulic equipment
high reliability and serviceabilityare especially true of the
SW800, which was developed to provide absolutely failure-free
performance.
Simplicity of operation is another plus of the new wall saw.
Blade feed and cutting depth are regulated by a hydraulic system
that allows stepless adjustment of the operating parameters from
0 to max.

According to the manufacturer, the best thing about the SW800
is the almost complete absence of any electrical and electronic compo-
nents that are always likely to fail under extreme operating conditions
such as high humidity, vibrations, voltage and temperature drops. The
basic version of the SW800 features only a wye-delta switch and, upon
customer request, can be further completed with a remote
control that is as dependable as the saw itself.
Having jettisoned vulnerable electronics in favor of
a more reliable hydraulic set-up, Dr.Schulze was faced
with the task of developing an absolutely new automatic
system that would regulate the speed of blade feed
and lowering. To solve this problem, the manufac-
turer devised a hydraulic system that automatically
varies cutting speed depending on the operating
parameters (e.g., concrete hardness, degree of
reinforcement, blade condition, cutting depth
etc.). This ingenuous solution prevents the blade
from getting jammed in the cut, and allows
optimal sawing performance at all times.
Compact, lightweight and big-wheeled,
the A23 hydraulic power pack is easily transport-
able to the job site. The power pack is capable
of operating at an oil fow rate of 55 l/min and
a pressure of 250 bar, generating a hydraulic
power of 23kW. This energy is passed onto the
blade with virtually no losses via a state-of-the-art
reducer built into the swivel lever.
With the required 32A (400V) electrical
protection, the new wall saw can be used on any
construction site without limitation. The power
pack is equally suitable for wire sawing and core drill-
ing systems.
The saws cutting head comes complete with lightweight, yet
robust aluminum rails of various lengths reinforced with steel plates
and a tooth rack for extended service life. Another new feature are
the self-adjusting pulleys that do not require periodical re-adjustment,
and allow simultaneous usage of worn-out and new rails.
Dr.Schulze has also beefed up its range of foor saws with the
new FS600D model. Powered by a 22 hp diesel engine HATZ,
the FS600D is designed to cut concrete and asphalt with up to
600 mm blades to a depth of 230mm. Blade feed and cutting
depth are hydraulically controlled. A stripped-down version of the
machine with manual downfeed is also available.
When consi deri ng al l of
Dr.Schulzes many inventions, its help-
ful to remember the Meissner kombi-
system. By now, the system-transformer
with an almost unlimited number
of sawing and drilling options has been
successfully utilized at hundreds
of jobs in the different corners
of the world. Such varied and
challenging projects as concrete
coring with 2m drill bits, radial
sawing of 1.5 to 6 m pipes, and rock
drilling with outsized drill
bits to big depths have been
completed using the same
Meissner system.
Another Meissner job in-
volved making 5 x 5 m openings in
ceiling slabs with an X-Y-Z-saw, with
further slicing of the cut concrete to blocks
of pre-determined size. All the cutting was
performed without having to repeatedly set-up
the saw, which was fxed to the foor with anchor bolts prior
to the start of the job. This clearly proves Meissners amazing
fexibility. Dr.Schulze welcomes Bauma visitors to check out these
and other products at its booth A1.135 in Hall A. Dr.Schulzes
full range of core drilling, foor, wall and wire sawing systems
will be on display, along with milling and grinding machinery,
and diamond consumables.

EDT EURODIMA
The new SAFE GUARD blade guard series from EDT
EURODIMA features increased stability, safety, lightweight
materials and easy handling. The companys developers achieved
a trend-setting construction by fulflling the underlying standards
lightweight and stable.
Creating an improved blade guard was an intensive project
for EDT EURODIMAs research and development staff, which
collaborated with the sales staff to analyze market information and
user requirements to develop an optimal, cost-effective solution.
The team found that by specifying a more lightweight material
with a different thickness, the blade guards weight could be reduced
by up to 45 %.
For example, the new blade guard for a diamond blade
1600 mm weighs only 16 kg, compared with the 29-kg weight of
existing models. The lower diameter guards are also easily manage-
able, approximately 12 kg for a 1200 mm blade, and 9.5 kg for
an 800 mm blade.
Although the Safe Guard is lighter, its special construction
of steel sheet profles, aluminium plates, and brackets with high-
strength steel provide the necessary rigidity to give users many years
of safe, durable service.
Tests and initial feld uses of the Safe Guard verify that the
lighter, redesigned product is easier to handle, and exceeds all existing
performance specifcations. The result is a valuable new accessory
to the high-frequency Braxx system.
Another enhancement to the Braxx control series is the new
Tornado BC321 wall saw. Similar to its predecessor, the BC320,
the new model features many important features:

Improved automatic operation makes work easier. At full speed, the machine regulates
its use of power on different materials.
Design improvements have reduced the weight of the BC321 by approximately
27 % compared with the BC320.
Easily visible illuminated displays allow operators to monitor the phase outlet in the
power supply.
Plugs are positioned in a notch on the saws narrow side, minimising the risk of damage.
New, highly ergonomic handles make the wall saw easier to use and transport.
The Tornado SB321 also features increased stability for longer
periods of use between servicing, a more robust, longer-lasting
motor, a reinforced design for the stirrup underpinning, and an
optimised fush fange.
The prismatic rails can be cobbled together now. The result is
a new, powerful Tornado wall saw with a host of benefcial features
and improvements.
EDT EURODIMA also introduces the new Hurricane
SB120, which adds another new dimension to the Braxx family
of wall saws. Though compact and lightweight in construction (<
35 cm width/depth, <25 kg), the SB120
is full of features, including 12 kW peak
performance to serve a wide range of
sawing applications.
The SB120 also has an innovative
new guide rail system which can be
rotated by up to 90 through a special
fastening bracket form. The saw can be
set up on both sides of the rail, saving
time for sectional cuts and ensuring higher
ground clearance.
The versatility of all of EDT EU-
RODIMAs products will be on display
at Bauma. Visit us in hall A1, booth

Finmac Demolition
At the 2007 edition of Bauma, the Finnish
company Finmac Demolition introduced
a brand new remote controlled demoli-
tion robot. Finmac became the second
manufacturer of remote controlled de-
molition robots. The first model was
called the F16, and several units are today
working around the world.
Recently, Finmac released a second
model called the F18R. The new robot is an agile but tough
demolition machine and has been designed with the hardest
industrial work in mind. It is available in the motor options of
15, 18,5 or 22 kW.
Many of the solutions for Finmac F18R have come directly
from the dirty, dusty worksites that the machines will be used in.
Drawing on our customers input and ideas, Finmacs team of
designers have created a really powerful machine.
The Finmac F18R promises super-strong, over dimensioned
hoods, hydraulic cylinder and arm protections formed to minimize
damage to the machine from working in kilns and ovens. The
optimized hydraulic oil coolers and increased ground clearance are
ideal for continuous operation in high temperatures. The optional
telescope increases the reach and makes the Finmac F18R perfect
for all industries. A powerful electric motor makes the work produc-
tive. The unit is available both in rubber and steel tracks.

Heger Diamond Tools
In PDi issue 1-2010, a large report about
Heger was published. The report mentioned
that the big news from Heger at Bauma would
be the launch of the Heger Titan Xfow and
Heger Titan HeroX.
The Heger Titan Xfow is a combination of
Titan maX angled segment design and the dotted
segments. The dots reduce the friction and improve the water fow.
The new tools reach high forward speeds with signifcant lifetime
increase. Due to the small slots between the segments, the blade is
vibration free to preserve operator and equipment.
The Heger Titan HeroX is a new generation of drills consisting of
four different segments to cover the full range of concrete drilling. The
series covers all applications from freehand drilling to the heavy drill
motor applications on massive drill rigs. The patented spike design
allows immediate vibration-free drilling from the frst hole. The use
of high-grade diamond and metal powders lead to faster and more
comfortable drilling, even in highly reinforced concrete.
Later this year Heger will also introduce three new lines of dia-
mond tools for dry cutting divided in the VIP, Premium and budget
range with Premium being the standard line.

Hilti
Hilti has announced that they are about to launch a new high cycle
wallsaw at Bauma, the new Hilti DST 10-E. It is quick to transport
and easy to set up by a single person, the new Hilti DST 10-E
electric wall saw speeds up a whole range of small
to medium-sized sawing jobs. This new wall saw,
featuring a unique design, makes everyday saw-
ing jobs easier because all the electronics are
incorporated in the saw head. Theres no
need for a separate electronics box
so transport, making set-up and
dismantling are much quicker and
easier than ever.
With its 7.5 kW power output
(S1, continuous operation) drawn from
a 16 amp electric supply and its ability
to cut to a depth of up to 38 cm, the
DST 10-E will increase productivity by
providing plenty of power for a wide range
of sawing applications such as cutting out door a n d
window openings or renovation work on balconies and building
facades at positions that are diffcult to work on.
With the aid of the practical transport trolley, the complete
saw system plus accessories can be brought to the desired loca-
tion on the job site by a single person without the slightest
trouble. Whats more, the saw features an electric remote
control system with a simple, easy-to-follow display.
Hilti diamond saw blades are precisely matched to the
DST 10-E, resulting in higher cutting performance and
longer life. In addition, the segments of these blades feature
the latest Hilti Equidist technology, ensuring equal spacing
of the diamonds in the matrix. This absolutely even dis-
tribution avoids the formation of diamond clusters as well
as areas void of diamonds, resulting not only in impressive
cutting performance, but also making the blades suitable
for universal use. The same blade can be used to cut a wide
range of different types of concrete.
With Hilti Fleet Management, a fxed monthly charge
covers all tool, service and repair costs. That greatly simpli-
fes tailor-made fnancial planning and eliminates a load of
administrative work. There are no hidden costs. All tools
in the feet are replaced at regular intervals with tools of
the latest generation, helping avoid costly downtime and
ensuring compliance with the latest safety standards.
Hilti Lifetime Service is the unique service package for
those who prefer to own their tools. Hilti tools are built to
last, but even if a defect occurs, Hilti will
take care of it quickly and professionally,
completely free of charge for up to two
years from date of purchase. Afterward,
Hilti continues to prove the quality of
its products by putting a limit on what a
repair can cost for as long as you continue
using your Hilti tool. Hilti even provides
a lifetime manufacturers warranty against
defects.
Further Hilti has beefed up its line of drill motors with
a score of new models in a wide range of power rates and ap-
plications.
The DD EC-1, the smallest in the line-up, is designed for
wet drilling of reinforced concrete and brittle materials with
8-35 mm drill bits. Handheld motor DD 110, which Hilti
singles out as the handiest and lightest motor of its portfolio,
is absolutely indispensable for up to 160mm jobs. Versatile
drill motor DD 130 is a true all-a-rounder applicable for
both wet and dry coring of up to 160mm. The DD 130 can
be used either in hand-held or rig-mounted modes. The larger
end of the range is occupied by rig-based mo-
tors. The DD 200 is equipped with universal
drive. The design of the DD 350 and DD500
boasts high-frequency drive and e-gears. These
powerhouses of machines have been developed
for large-scale and deep drilling in construction
materials. The hydraulically driven DD 750
completes the bigger end of the new line.
Hilti will show the complete range of drill
systems at Bauma together with the re-
maining range of machines and dia-
mond tools for professional con-
crete cutters. Also look for Hiltis
new TE 1500-AVR breaker; DD
350 and DD 500 diamond cor-
ing systems powered by 1,000Hz

Husqvarna Construc-
tion
Products
Husqvarna Con-
struction Products is
bringing a long line of prod-
ucts to Bauma. In fact, the company
began rolling out its new offerings at
the end of last year.
First, Husqvarna displayed two
brand new demolition robots, the DXR
250 and the DXR 140. With these the
company has launched a totally new range
of remotely controlled demolition machines
within the space of two years.
We launched our frst demolition robot, the
DXR 310 in 2009, says Husqvarna Construction
Products head of marketing communications
Ingrid Nystrm. In the beginning of 2010, we
are releasing a new model, the DXR 250, which
is a compact robot with a fxed arm. At Bauma
we are going to present another new robot, the
DXR140, which will be the smallest robot in
the range.
On two indoor and outdoor stands, at
Bauma, visitors will be able to test Husqvarnas
extensive range of drilling machines and stands,
including the newly added DM 340 and the
DS 450 stand.
The new powerful WS 482 HF elec-
tric wall saw has a blade capacity of up to
1600 mm, and the best
power-to-weight ratio
on the market. In the
power cutter range,
new models of the 700,
900 and 1200 series will be
presented. The new petrol
driven K 760 power cutter
is a development on the K 750.
Like its forerunner, the K 760 is
equipped with Husqvarnas X-Torq
technology, which makes the cutter stronger while reducing
emissions.
The K 760 is a good choice for all users who want both a
powerful, reliable machine and want to consider the environment,
Nystrm says. The X-Torq engine lends up to 75% on reduced
emissions and up to 20% on reduced fuel consumption
compared to a conventional two stroke engine.
All of Husqvarnas new power cutter mod-
els are equipped with the latest generation of
Active Air Filtration, which increases
flter working life by up to one year of
operational time on dry cutting.
Diagrip is Husqvarnas unique
technology for more effective dia-
mond tools. Diagrip wall saw and
foor saw blades have become very
popular due to the superior cut-
ting capacity in combination with
increased working life. The complete
range of Diagrip tools will be present-
ed at Bauma, encompassing wall and
foor saws blades, drill bits and blades for
handheld power cutters. Within the feld of
surface preparation Husqvarna will also present
its fve grinders with diamond tool accessories.
All in all there will not be any disappointment for the
con- tractors who visit the Husqvarna stands at Bauma.

Hydro-Tec GmbH
The German supplier of concrete sawing and drilling
equipment Hydro-Tec has not announced any new
products before Bauma, electing instead to publicize its
news at the show.
What we can tell though is that Hydro-Tec GmbH
has topped up its HS range of core drilling systems with a new
HS300. The new rig has a drilling range of up to 300mm.
Assembly of the HS300 is done at Hydro-Tecs manufactur-
ing facilities using only German components. The system is
powered by an electric motor, which is fastened
on to the stand with just a hand-crank thanks
to the integrated quick-change plate. Four
replaceable profled strips on the column al-
low for easy movement of the carriage, which
results in smooth and vibration-free drilling.
Reduced wear of the column is another advantage of this design,
as the strips preclude direct contact between it and the carriage.
HS300 will be shown at Bauma, along with Hydro-Tecs
other products.

Klindex
The Italian manufacturer Klindex will use
Bauma to show a large portion of it latest
product developments. The companys Super
Concrete is a system that changes a stan-
dard concrete foor in a
beautiful, polished
and easy-to-clean
surface, thanks to
its patented and
performing grinding
machines and diamond tools.
The Super Concrete is an easy
and fast system for grinding and
polishing concrete surface without
the use of wax.
Klindex will also show its new Hercules 530 foor grinding
machines. This new line of foor grinding and polishing machines
for marble, granite, polished concrete, gres, conglomerate, stone,
industrial surfaces, and cement foors features counter-rotating
steel planetary gears. This makes the equipment very easy to
handle, reliable, robust and long-lasting. Thanks to the easy han-
dling, this line is especially suitable to contractors with
inexperienced operators. The machines productivity is
extremely superior compared with any other machine
built with belt drives.
Another novelty is the KY100 ASC Supervak.
Like all other Supervak models, the KY100 ASC is
equipped with the automatic self-cleaning future, and
is also the only professional vacuum cleaner in the world
with retractable dimensions due to its telescopic frame,
according to Klindex.
Klindex will also show its Expander 1000 mega-grinder.
This is the frst grinding machine with 6 counter-rotating stag-
gered heads for a perfect surface levelling. This feature guarantees
the desired fatness of the surface, and the perfect balance of the
foor grinding machine for the operator.
The Expander 1000 mega-grinder has an innovative system of
automated change tools. Using built-in actuators, the head rotates
of 90 allowing the operator to change the tools without having to
lift the grinding machine. It has an adjustable work pressure from
500 kg to 750 kg, and a central actuator that makes it possible
to give more or less pressure to the tools. The machine uses only
gears to provide superior durability and reliability. There are no
belt transmission that are subject to breaks.
Other features of the Expander 1000 mega-grinder include
maximum silence in order to work in confned spaces, and a third
extractable front wheel for easy transportation and to climb on
vans. The machine has planetarium inclination to allow
a bigger amount of frontal removal as well
as an extractor tank for effective collection
of dust. The Expander 1000 is remote con-
trolled with either cable or radio. The remote
control unit has a multidirectional joystick
that prevents vibrations to the operator.

them. These diesel driven machines pro-
duce between 65-98 kW and, depending
on the particular model, cutting depths of up to 630 mm with a
maximum feed speed of up to 80 m/min. The usable saw blade
diameters range from 350 to 1,500 mm, and blade rotation is vari-
ably adjustable to cater for different material properties,
cutting depths and working speeds. The Lissmac FS 41
and Uni-Cut foor cutters have strong, warp-resistant
frames for precise cutting, vibration absorbers for
minimum vibration, and smooth-running, state-of-
the-art engines. Special emphasis has been give to the
cutters manoeuvrability, while a low centre of gravity
makes them tilt-proof. These Lissmac machines
also master alternating left and right-hand cuts
with short set-up times. All models can produce
pushed and pulled cuts on just one machine. All
Lissmac products will be on display at Bauma in
Hall A1, Booth 221/324.

Sase and MKS Funke
At Bauma, Sase and MKS will introduce Sases new PDG line of
planetary diamond grinders. All three PDG grinders, PDG 8000,
PDG 6000, and PDG 4500, have three powerful heads to better
follow foor contours. The three-headed machines also deliver the
most productivity while utilizing nine pieces of diamond tooling,
rather than the twelve required by a four-headed machine. The
machines are also perfectly balanced and are certifed ultra-low
vibration.
The PDG line is precision engineered and designed with a
contemporary and sleek yet sturdy look. The look refects how the
machines run. They are indestructible, aggressive, and reliable; but
also refned and easy to operate.
Sases new grinders will be on display with many of the
companys other successful products, such as dust extractors, foor
scrapers, scarifers, edge grinders, and a full-line of competitively
priced diamond tooling developed specifcally for the concrete
grinding and polishing industry.
Polished concrete for industrial and retail surfaces continues to
take market share from other fooring systems. Sase has become the
most respected supplier of concrete grinding and polishing equip-
ment and tooling, coatings removal and prep in the US. While
most construction-related companies have suffered a decline in sales

The companys Stuttgart branch is serving the southern regions of
Germany as well as Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Slovenia.
MKS and Sase share the same business philosophy of listen-
ing to the contractor and supporting the contractor in the feld.
As important as it is to have the right equipment and tooling, it
is also important to have the right company behind you, one that
can also provide the knowledge and technical support needed to
be successful in foor grinding.
Along with on-site support, customers need qualifed train-
ing and education to help develop their business. For European
customers MKS maintains a new 700 m

state-of-the-art
training facility. There, experienced technicians provide
comprehensive technical and practical training for
all those who are involved in the development
of the relatively new polished concrete industry,
as well as the design fooring, natural stone and
terrazzo industries.
Montabert
At Bauma 2010, Montabert will launch the
new Blue Line range of hydraulic breakers
and a new range of crusher buckets
designed for excavators from 8 to
over 35 tonnes. The new
products are designed
for applications in
demol i ti on,
r e c yc l i ng,
quarrying,
construction
and refurbishment.
The new Blue
Line breaker, which
complement Mont-
aberts existing fam-
ily of breakers, is designed as
a n entry-level product
r ange. Thei r
simple, cost-ef-
fective design offers high levels
of performance and effciency, plus durability
and easy serviceability.
The keys to the Blue Line breakers high
performance are a patented main valve, and an
innovative energy recovery system. The main valve
and nitrogen chamber accumulator control piston
movements, optimising the breakers strike power.
The energy recovery system further increases the strike
power by using the energy generated by the piston rebound.
This system automatically increases the breakers frequency
when used on hard materials.
PDG 8000 - The design embodies reli-
ability, strength and grinding speed.
The frst model in the Blue Line range is the 1.7-tonne
XL1700 breaker, which provides a blow energy of 3400 J, a fre-
quency of 600 blows/min and a tool diameter of 137 mm. The
XL1700 can be used with excavators providing with a fow range
of 100 to 150 l/min, and an operating pressure of 180 bar.
Montaberts new crusher buckets easily mount on any make
of excavator, and require only one-way auxiliary hydraulics to
operate. The crusher buckets can crush concrete, brick, blocks,
asphalt, aggregate and many more materials. Plus, they can easily
be adjusted to produce different sizes of output materials, reducing
hauling and tipping costs. The crusher buckets can turn useless
debris into material that can be re-used on site or on other projects
or sold to other contractors.
By reducing costs and producing marketable materials,
Montaberts crusher buckets can help generate a new source of
revenue for demolition and recycling operations, and provide
new application opportunities for excavator
owners. The product range includes
four standard models: the CRB501,
CRB601, CRB751 and CRB951. In
addition, the CRB751 and CRB951
are also available as heavy duty models
(CRB751HD and CRB951HD).

Saint-Gobain Abrasive
Nimbus Diamond Tools, part of Saint Gobain will use Bauma
to demonstrate and show several new and recently introduced
products at Bauma
The engineers at Norton-Nimbus have developed an al-
ternative solution for coolant, with foam replacing water. This
innovative method was developed and patented by our research
and development centre in Japan for wire sawing, and
has now been adapted to drilling. This foam drilling
unit is composed of a compressor generating specially
developed and environmentally friendly foam through
the drilling motor. The foam is then vacuumed and
reduced back to water.
The density of the foam has been designed to
allow fast drilling and effciently carry the slurry out
of the hole. Because of its density compared with
water, the foam will not spread through cracks in
the concrete nor splatter around when drilling. This
virtually eliminates the need to protect the job site
before drilling, and the time devoted to cleaning
up afterward. As a result, customers will realize
substantial savings in their labour costs. Those
interested in taking a closer look at this system will
be able to see a live demonstration at Bauma.
Norton-Nimbus has also launched several other inno-
vations in the past months for drilling applications, includ-
ing the X3 laser welded core and the new and revolutionary
OTip. To answer the specifc needs of hand-held drilling,
Norton-Nimbus just launched the X2 core drill. As with
the rest of the range, the X2 is manufactured in our Burgess Hill,
UK, plant and laser-welded for improved performance and safety.
The big difference is a thinner segment. Compared with the market
standard thickness of 3,5mm, the 2.6mm thick segments used on
the X2 not only allow for much faster drilling, but also provide a
much easier and comfortable solution for the operator.
Small diameter drilling is carried out with thin wall crowns,
manufactured in one continuous ring with waterways cut out in the
diamond section. To comply with safety standards, the mechanical
principals for producing crowns force manufacturers to respect a
ratio of 1 to 4, where the height of the full crown cannot be more
than four times its thickness. This is why all crowns in the market are
10mm high, with only 7mm of actual diamond cutting section.
Norton-Nimbus has developed and patented a new production
process where crowns are no longer manufactured as one piece, but
62 PDi Issue 2 - 2010 Bauma specIal aprIl - may
as several segments assembled together through a special densifca-
tion process.
Because the above-mentioned ratio no
longer applies, the new Norton-Nimbus
TWICs will be offered in 13mm of full
diamond height, thus almost doubling the
market standard. This new densifcation
process will virtually eliminate the risk of
cracks in the crowns, and allow differentia-
tion in the shape. The wider waterways of the
Norton-Nimbus TWICs will also provide a
much faster drilling and more effcient water
fow. The better evacuation of slurry from
the cut will increase its life. The TWICs will
initially be offered in diameters ranging from
18 to 50 mm.

Solga Diamant
Catalonia-based Solga Diamant has been developing diamond
tools for the sawing and drilling applications since 1958. So far,
Spains major player has preferred to keep a low profle as far as
media coverage is concerned. But the word Bauma worked its
usual magic, leading Solga Diamant to offer a presentation of
its latest products for PDis Bauma Special.
As a diamond tool manufacturer, Solga Diamant focuses
on core drilling, wall sawing, and wire sawing. For drilling tools,
the company develops a wide range of tooling with different
bonds for high-performance coring in every imaginable type of
concrete. For example, n.6 bond allows a diamond utilization
rate of about 68% on limestone-based concretes. For drilling in
siliceous concretes, Solga has developed special protective bond
n.3 that helps keep the diamond utilization rate above 30%.
Specifcation n.1, which is devised to sustain high-impact
loads, makes a perfect solution for heavy-duty coring with power-
ful hydraulic rigs. Laser welding segments on to drill cores further
enhances tool performances.
Another distinctive feature of Solgas tooling is segment
auto-dressing. This feature helps facilitate the start-up phase of
drilling by gradually exposing diamonds at a rate that depends
on the drilling speed and machine power.
Solgas developments in the feld of
wall sawing focus on achieving high
cutting speed and durability
of a diamond blade. Blade
specifcation is designed on
the basis of machine power
rate and type of the mate-
rial to be cut.
For machines with
under 10kW capacity, Solga
offers MR spec with abrasive
diamond grit. For efficient
wall sawing with more powerful
machines, impact resilient blade
S8019 is available. The segments
U-shaped geometry allows two points of
contact with the material during the cutting,
thus making it faster and smoother.
Solga Diamant constantly updates and expands
its line of diamond wires. The latest example is a new sin-
tered spec G25. Developed in partnership with Solgallied, the
wire is claimed to surpass electroplated wires in terms of cutting
speed and life. This high-performance and easy-to-use wire is
manufactured by an in-house sintering process called H.I.P. As
any other Solga wire, it is equipped with high-strength steel ropes
that effectively transmit the bending moment and allow the wire
to glide easily along the pulleys.
To keep improving the quality of its tooling, Solga Diamant
pays meticulous attention to customer feedback. Being customer-
savvy is important for the Spanish company that strives to
become the industry benchmark for quality and reliability.

Pentruder
Pentruder, the Swedish developer and manufacturer of profes-
sional concrete sawing and drilling systems, has gone through a
lot of changes in the past. And the changes are all about expan-
sion: the number of products, development and production
capacity and marketing and sales. Pentruder has such a high
pace of developing new products that it sometimes is diffcult for a
magazine focused on this industry to keep track of and follow up
the new products.
Even though Pentruders hydraulic machines are still avail-
able, it is the HF (High Cycle) equipment that makes up the
majority of sales. The range contains of six HF saws and three
hydraulic wall saws. A new Pentruder 3P8 HF wire
saw with extraordinary wire storage is drawing
a lot of attention.
Small and light electric motors with
the HF technique, plus a new contact
system in combination with the Trac-
tive gearbox principles, are at the heart
in the Pentruder equipment. Six HF
wall saws, including the new 8-20iQ and
CBK, the fairly new wire sawing unit 3P8
and the brand new modular concrete cutting
system complete the current line. These can also be
used with the Pentruder standard rail system. All of
the equipment can be integrated with each other,
freeing contractors from the need to bring a lot of
equipment to site to carry out most types of work.
One of Pentruders latest new items is the Core
EZ core drilling system, which contains different
modules that integrate with the new MCCS
system. It is a completely new principle for core
drilling with a completely new and universal drill
motor with interchangeable gearboxes and differ-
ent transmissions. The Core EZ places the power
in the centre where it is needed. A traditional
core drill rig counteracts, as the drill stand needs
to be placed on one side of the core bit. As
the power increases, the whole unit wants to
move sidewise. With the new Core EZ core
drilling system, the drill motor and the stand
guarantee that the power is fully used where
it is needed in the centre.
Also new is a simple and easily maneu-
vered quick coupler, which makes the change
of drill bit fast and easy. There is also a chain
saw module under development. Pentruder
is also working on a very interesting fat saw
equipment project.
At Bauma Pentruder will show several true example of
modularity with the new Pentruder saw track as both drill rig
and wire saw rig. It is a very stable, light weight and easy-to-
use system. The Pentruder Modular Concrete Cutting System
(MCCS) will bring true modularity to the concrete cutting
contractor. With the same high-frequency power pack, cables,
remote control and HF-motor, and the same track system, the
contractor will be able to wall saw, wire saw and drill.
The new line of single- and three-phase drill
motors, which will be available later this
year, are running directly on the saw
track, eliminating the carriage that
normally runs on the column.
At Bauma, Tractive will
also introduce a new Pent-
pak 418SL high-frequency
power pack. Designed for
up to 18 kW HF-mo-
tors, the power pack
weighs only 16 kg.
With the introduc-
tion of the Pentpak
418SL, Tractive will
standardize on the
Pentpak 427, which
can run all HF-motors and
all machines.
But what has been
mentioned is hardly the last
word from the Pentruder founder and
owner Anders Johnsen. There will undoubtedly be a lot more
novelties to take a look at in the Pentruder booth at Bauma.
And its also worth mentioning is that Pentruder has
started its own sales and service companies in the US, UK,
Norway and Japan. Pentruder Japan Co,. Ltd is the most
recent subsidiary.

introduce probably the widest range of new products ever.
All of the novelties covered
in an extensive report in
PDi issue 1-2010 will be
on the stand.
One of the features
of Tyrolits display will
be a high-frequency wall
saw line featuring a new
built-in gearbox. The wall-
saw, named WSE1620***,
will be the biggest in the
line. Also to be intro-
duced at Bauma is the new
WCE14*** wire saw and
a drilling gearbox, both
of which are part of a new
modular system using the
same driving unit.
Tyrolit will also launch
the new 11 HP FSG 513*** foor saw. This robust
machine provides optimized cutting, more ap-
plication options and increased safety. Also new
is the DME75UW*** drill motor for drilling
applications in reinforced concrete, and for very
large diameter core drills.
Tyrolit is also launching a new series
of drill rigs comprising four models and six
designs. The series contains the DRU160***,
DRU250***, DRA250***, DRU400***,
DRA400*** and DRA500***. All rigs come
with the combi-foot system. Apart from
the DRU160***, all drill rigs in the new
range have the ModulDrill quick fxing
system that guarantees fast, secure drill
motor mounting. The other models also
have a twin-speed feed gear for greater
ease of use.
Tyrolit is also adding the drilling
system DRS160** to its existing range
of 11 models. The DRS160** can drill
holes up to 160 mm. Tyrolit will also
introduce a new foor saw to the Euro-
pean market. Named the FSG5135, the
foor saw was developed and produced
in the US by the Tyrolit company
Diamond Products.
Tyrolit is also launching a new
series of Premium diamond wires
for concrete and steel. The new
series meets the highest de-
mands for quality, effciency
and safety and copes with
every concrete cut-
ting challenge.
In addition
Issue 2 - 2010 Bauma specIal aprIl - may PDi 67
Tyrolit has developed TGD
technology aimed at making
concrete cutting faster, more
effcient and more economi-
cal. During recent years
several new diamond grain
distribution technologies
have been released by several
of the worlds diamond tool
manufacturers. Tyrolit has
applied its TGD Technology
to take grain distribution
one step further. According
to Tyrolit, this technology is
not just about distributing
the diamonds according to
a certain controlled pat-
tern, nor is it solely about
the diamonds. With TGD, the abrasive
diamond grains are distributed optimally
in the segment. As a result, a consistently
high cutting performance can be achieved
over the lifetime of the tool. This decisively
improves the cutting speed, service life and
versatility of the Tyrolit premium tools,
and eliminates any possible variations in
performance.
The patented TGD technology is al-
ready available on Tyrolit foor saw blades,
and will be released at Bauma for wall saw
blades. Also worth mentioning is that Tyrolit

Shinhan Diamond Industrial Co. was started in 1978
by Mr. Shin Kyung Kim who remains President of the
corporation. Although Shinhan carved out a sizeable
niche in the diamond business, its interests reach far
beyond just diamond tools.
A New Korea company
in more ways than one
The company, whose name means New Korea, also
develops and supplies solutions for the automotive,
semi-conductor, glass, LCD and LED industries. Over
the 32 years Shinhan has been in the market, it has shown
a remarkable growth. It began with just 35 employees
working on two assembly lines, and has evolved into an
international corporation with a 390-person
staff in Korea alone, plus another 290 in
overseas offces and factories.
Headquartered in Incheon, Koreas
third largest city and its main transport
hub, Shinhan also operates a liaison offce in
Eschborn (Germany), and three sales subsid-
iaries in Paris, Anaheim (California, USA),
and Qingdao (China). Shinhans nationwide
sales network includes 52 regional branches
that supply some 2,000 distributors and
end-users throughout the country.
Internationally, Shinhan tends to work
through dealers and distributors, with total
number of overseas customers now reaching
400. In 2009, sales from the head offce net-
ted Shinhan U$125 million, and another U$20 million
was racked up by its overseas subsidiaries.
Product-focused approach to production
Shinhans production facilities encompass its main plant
in Korea, where the famous ARIX tools are manufactured,
and another two factories in the US and China. While
the Chinese plant makes a sweeping range of diamond
tools, the Anaheim-based operations focus primarily on
laser-welded and silver-brazed products.
One of the most distinctive features of Shinhans
approach to production is a low degree of integration.
Every item, be it ARIX products, laser-welded blades, or
diamond wire, is made totally independently. This allows
the manufacturer to streamline the production of every
particular type of diamond tool.
The future-discerning Shinhan invests 5% of its
annual turnover in R&D. The companys R&D centre
performs a number of important tasks, including devel-
opment of basic theories explaining cutting mechanisms
of diamond and CBN superabrasives, investigation of
raw materials, enhancement of key performance factors,
and many other.
Second generation of ARIX tools
It was in that R&D centre where, in the early 2000s,
a process of controlled deposition of diamonds onto
substrate at pre-determined positions was developed.
The process is now widely known as ARIX.
Dr. Lee, a Senior Researcher with
Shinhan, laid down the basic principles
of a manufacturing process of array-type
sintered diamond segments. In 2004, after
a few years of trial and error, the process
was adapted to serial production. With
every diamond particle placed in an optimal
three-dimensional position, tools made by
ARIX technology showed superior per-
formance to regular diamond products in
terms of both cutting speed and life.
The pattern of diamond array varies
depending on the material, machine power
and operator preferences of working param-
eters. First tried on circular saw blades and
core drills, ARIX technology is now used
for almost the entire range of Shinhans diamond tools,
including diamond wire and concrete grinding segments.
The worldwide introduction of ARIX technology in
2005 allowed Shinhan to signifcantly boost its global
sales. In 2010, the manufacturer expects to triple the sales
South Korea enjoys the well-
deserved reputation of being
one of the worlds centres of
diamond tool production. The
country is teeming with manu-
facturers that have strong
technical knowledge and prov-
en expertise in the business.
But even against this highly
competitive background, Shin-
han Diamond Industrial Co.,
Ltd. has managed to establish
itself as a major player and
one of the most trusted names
in Korea. Andrei Bushmarin
reports.
Nothing is impossible
for Shinhan and ARIX
volume of ARIX products in Europe over year ago.
Five years after the release of the frst ARIX products,
Shinhan has come up with its second revolutionary ver-
sion of the diamond array technology, ARIX Genera-
tion-II. The follow-up is more advanced technologically
than the previous version, with enhanced metallurgy and
a better control over diamond positions. The new sleek
design of segments is an improvement over the original
ARIX products, both aesthetically and functionally.
The segments are now available with a wider range of
bonds that are exclusively developed for the array-type
tools, providing stronger adhesion to diamond particles
for a longer life.
Another advantage of the upgraded ARIX technol-
ogy is that it offers a unique and different segment design
for each group of diamond products. ARIX Generation-
II tools will be frst unveiled to a worldwide audience at
BAUMA, at Shinhans stand No 511 in hall A1.
Post-BAUMA plans
When Europes biggest industrial show is over,
Shinhan will continue pursuing its product development
program, which consists of three major categories. The
frst includes new high-end tools for construction jobs
blades for foor and road saws, wall saw blades, drill bits,
and diamond wires. Shinhan will also develop diamond
products for processing natural and artifcial stone, and
hard tiles. The third product group includes laser-welded
blades for hand-held applications, both conventional
and ARIX-based.

Together, LODAB and Entreprenad AB Sven Segerstrm
represent more then 75 years of demolition and recycling knowl-
edge. Both are two of Swedens biggest demolition companies.
LODAB had a turnover in 2008 of around EUR 20 M, and
Segerstrm around EUR 8 M. Together they form DEMCOM,
a new company with offces in Stockholm, rebro and Fagersta.
DEMCOMs expected turnover for 2010 may well be as much
as EUR 25 M.
Many reasons for merger
Both companies has known each other for several years, and
often competed on the same projects. They are approaching a
generation shift with one of the owners reaching retirement age.
The biggest reason that the two companies put their resources
together, though, is to become stronger and better.
We have to think in long terms, says Johan Segerstrm,
vice president of DEMCOM. Each of the two companies will
have diffculties to grow by themselves. But as one company, we
can concentrate in what we are good at, develop that and also
offer a bigger range of equipment. With more machinery and
more people, we can take on more large, medium and small
projects at the same time, which was impossible before.
Lars-Olov Dahl, founder of LODAB Demolition, adds,
We are facing a trend that the projects become bigger and more
demanding. We are used to that, but if we want to stay in that
league we need to adapt. We must have the power to educate our
personnel further, invest in new and more effcient machinery,
and be ahead of new regulations in terms of environmental and
safety aspects, and so forth. Together, we have a very good chance
to not only stay in that division but also lead it.
As two individual companies we were also more woun-
rable, says Sven Segerstrm founder of Entreprenad AB Sven
Segerstrm. Economic slopes like the one we are experiencing
right now we believe is easier to cope with as DEMCOM then
as two separate companies and still move further.
All sectors improved
DEMCOM was founded at the end of 2009, and is now in
the start-up process. It will probably take up to the summer
before everything is running smoothly. The feet is now being
optimized. Some machines and equipment need to be sold
out, while others need to be purchased. But in general, they
are rather well set in terms of the feet. The personnel remains
the same, and has even increased a bit. DEMCOM totals ap-
proximately 100 persons.
The fact that DEMCOM now has fve persons working
as calculators on new project is a good example of how the new
company has far more capacity.
When it comes to the machine and equipment feet,
DEMCOM has about 100 machines divided in excavators,
compact loaders, wheel and front loaders, cranes, trucks, dump-
ers, mine dumpers, mobile crushers and screens, windscreens
and several more types. Thirty-fve of the excavators are fully
ftted for demolition purposes, while seven of the machines are
high-rise excavators from 21 m up to 45 m. DEMCOM has
also a number of Brokk demolition robots, but has also started
to use remote controlled Take Job machines as well as they are
equipping a 46 t Volvo excavator with remote control. When
its come to attachments, all each of the 35 demolition-ftted
excavators has at least four attachments, divided in hammer,
crusher, pulverizers and sorting grab. They also have tenfold of
steel shears up to 10 t. Overalll the attachments range in weight
from 200 kg to 12 t. Also, the compact loaders are equipped
with different types of attachments. The company recently also
purchased a couple NPK S90Cthe largest NPK crusher,
which manages to cut through 2 m thick concrete. It is probably
the biggest crusher in the Nordic region.
DEMCOM also works with decontamination and soil
remediation contractors, and has specialized equipment for this
sort of service including Ferrari fans, suction trucks, special
equipment for PCB decontamination, etc.
Ready for more big
projects at the same time
With the new set up in DEMCOM, the company is ready to
go after the really large projects, which is also the purpose of
the company.
DEMCOM can offer an overall solution including
everything related to demolition like recycling, dismantling,

decontamination work, industrial clean-up, concrete saw-

Stefan Petersson.
Our constant goal is to be in front offering top class
service in all sectors related to our profession, he adds.
We have knowledge and machinery to take on really
big jobs and run several at the same time. But this doesnt
mean that we say no to smaller jobs, says Lars-Olov Dahl.

and tools on the job, not too big and not too small. This
is benefcial for the client. Its the opposite when you are
a smaller company. With a smaller machine range, you
are maybe forced to use a too big machine that costs too
much on a small job.
In general, DEMCOM is focusing on three client
groups: industry, building and property companies and
infrastructure companies. The industry clients, like power,
steel, cement and paper producers, are dominating to
some 60 %. The remaining 40 % is divided between
the others.
But everything depends of course of the market,
says Johan Segerstrm. Right now the industry sector is a
very strong client, but these things can change and we want
to be quick to adapt to new market situations.
In general, the business concept in DEMCOM is the
same as in the companies it was merged from. Demolition
is number one and dominating, followed by recycling, decon-
tamination service, soil remediation, concrete sawing and drilling
and related services. But DEMCOM would like to develop the
recycling service by investing in equipment in order to increase
its waste refnement capabilities.
All sorts of waste material like scrap metal and other
were sold to be refned, says Lars-Olov. Now we want to do
part of the refning ourselves. In the future and to some extent
already today, we are able to take care of the refning process
ourselves. We have invested in more screening and separation
equipment.
The DEMCOM home market is Sweden, but they hope
that it wont be long before the entire Nordic region is considered
home as well.
I think we have a good position for this, says Sven Seger-
strm. We have a lot of contacts in all Nordic countries and
we get continuously new projects to calculate.
But DEMCOM is not afraid to take on jobs outside the
Nordic region and that is also part of the plan.
We are ready to travel worldwide if we get the right type
of job, says Lars-Olov. But more distant project need to have
a certain size as it is not worth to travel far away with a lot of
equipment for a rather small job. But where special knowledge
and special equipment is needed, we are the right type of con-
tractor for the job.
Already, DEMCOM has received several requests from
central European countries such as the UK and France, and even
from more distant countries. They also have a close co-operation
with a US company that has contacts all over he world.
But priority number one is the Nordic countries. In the near
future, the plan is to start up subsidiaries in Sweden, with others
to follow in the other Nordic countries.
We want to be well represented in Sweden, from north to
south. To achieve this we will either start up local offces on our
own or acquire a local player, says Johan Segerstrm.
Several large projects running
Even though the market still is rather diffcult, DEMCOM
expects to reach approximately EUR 25 M in 2010. In the next
three years, the goal is to reach EUR 30 M, and increase the staff
to up around 120.
To continue increase from that level we must extend our
operations outside Sweden, says Johan. If we can do that and
keep the same level of competence as well as a comprehensive
machine feet I think we a good potential to become one of the
leading demolition and recycling contractors in Europe.
When PDi met with the three DEMCOM directors, the
company had around 20 large projects running in different parts
of Sweden. Four of them where larger industry projects. Among
them are two large sport arena projects and another four larger
infrastructure projects, all in Stockholm; a large PCB decon-
tamination project that covers all of Sweden that will continue
for another year; and a large runway project for Stockholms
international airport in Stockholm.

The way the cookie should crumble
The OilQuick quick coupling system came almost like a blessing for
demolition and recycling contractors that require quick and continuous
shifts between different types of attachments...at least for those who
have dared to try it. Now OilQuick is making its way all over the world.
Offering QilQuick to the demolition and recycling in-
dustries was considered in the early 1990s, as few industries
had such a big need for time-sensitive continuous attach-
ment shifts.
But it was in the late 1990s the demolition industry
really took off for us, says Henrik Sonerud, marketing
director at OilQuick.
Pays off in 2 to 3 months time
A fact that still sometimes surprises both ke and Henrik is
that it takes a lot of work to convince a demolition contrac-
tor. Considering that shifting tools is very common in
demolition applications, and that this work is very
time-consuming with conventional system, con-
tractors nevertheless tend to take a long time before
choosing to go for it. An Oil Quick system is not
exactly inexpensive, and the more machines and
tools the contractor has, the more it costs. But on
the other hand, the cost is peanuts compared to
what a demolition contractor would pay for a
demolition-ftted excavator.
To me, it is self-evident that an
OilQuick quick coupler should
be fitted on the machine right
from the start on particular new
machines. It is beneficial right
from the frst moment it is used,
says ke.
There is so much talk about
automatization and minimizing
adjustment time, but not within
the demolition industry, yet, says
Henrik.
Some 5 to 7 % of the cost of a new demolition-equipped
excavator represents that cost for an OilQuick system, which
boosts the use of the whole demolition unit up to 50%,
adds Henrik.
That 50% increased use fgure represents better effciency,
better control, more accurate work, more satisfed customers,
higher competitiveness andmost of allincreased proft.
Other advantages include minimal oil leakage, increased
safety, much less hose consumption, fewer stops due to less-
frequent machine failure, increased effciency despite fewer
machines on the worksite and reduced transportation costs.
With OilQuick, the contractor is also saving his tools.
Without OilQuick, quick coupler contractors tend to use
their attachments for purposes they were not meant for, which
wears them out quicker. Demolition and sorting grabs are
a good example. They wear out rather fast, and need to be
replaced or repaired, which costs a lot of money.
There are so many benefts with OilQuick, I could talk
all day about this, says ke. If you have a 35 t machine and
make two attachment replacements per day, the OilQuick
systems has paid off itself already. I would say that it in general
as system is paid off in two to three months.
Strong demand in central Europe
In the last few years, the demolition sector has started to real-
ize the benefts with OilQuick. Central Europe with Germany
and the countries in the Alp region are quickly increasing their
use of OilQuick, and are very open to the concept. Also, the
Nordic region of Europe has started to invest in OilQuick,
and many of the larger demolition contractors are using it on
all their excavators in the feet. The sales focus for OilQuick
The way the cookie should crumble
Second and third generation Swedish machine and
equipement manufacturer. From the right ke and Henrik
Sonerud.
The new OilQuick head quarter and
and assembly plant was built in 2008.
Here development, marketing, admin-
stration and assembly is gathered.
All components are maufactured by
sub-manufacturers. About 95% of
the components are manufactured in
Sweden. The company is owned by the
family Sonerud.
The OilQuick quick coupler system
can today be adapted on many types
of carriers.
How I see it most contractors has the need of fast
changes between different attachments in order to become
more effcient and frankly make more money. It is just that all
of them dont know what OilQuick can do for them yet, says
OilQuick President ke Sonerud. We sell a rationalization
device more than a quick coupler
The everyday life for a demolition contractor working
with different kinds of carriers on the worksite is, or should be,
a constant shifting between different hydraulic attachments.
The right tool should be used for the right job.
More than ever, the combination of end-customers,
regulations, time and money forces contractors
to work with more types of attach-
ments in orer to be more effcient,
environmentally compliant and
safer. The bottleneck is often the
time-consuming work to shift
attachments.
This is where the OilQuick
quick coupler system can help
and make the cookie crumble,
so to speak.
As a contractor, you can
either work with the evolution, try
new ways and be like fast as weasel on
the jobsite, or work against it and be slow and
conservative. What we offer our customers is more
of a rationalization device then a smart quick
coupling system, says ke.
It may sound like an exaggeration, but
it is true. Many contractors struggle on their
jobsites today with a lot of manual work to
switch attachments, running in and out of the
machine cabin, changing worn out hoses, spilling hazardous
hydraulic oil, etc. All that work takes a lot of time and costs
just as much money.
OilQuick offers an alternative where the shift of attach-
ment takes almost just second and the operator never needs
to leave the cabin.

A need since
the late 1980s
OilQuick launched its frst quick coupler in 1993. (How they
reached that point is detailed in the separate article about
OilQuicks history.) But it all relates to another product
developed by the same company, the GrabJohn attachment
programme. The need for quick couplers had already emerged
in the 1980s, with the frst prototypes built at the end of the
decade. Since its introduction in 1993, the QilQuick concept
has been built out continuously and ftted to more carriers.
Today, the QilQuick quick couplers ft carriers from 2
to 120 t. There are nine standard models for excavators, and
further special models for wheel loaders, cranes, lift trucks
and material handlers, plus several OEM-models such as
quick connect systems for Genesis Europes different types
of attachments, Fuchs, the Kiesel Group and Hitachi to
name a few.
The OilQuick system is sold by a large number of ma-
chine and attachment dealers in the world, with special focus
on the European market. The OEM-products are sold under
the brand names mentioned above.

76 PDi Issue 2 - 2010 Bauma specIal aprIl - may
is currently the European market, but other continents are
becoming more and more interested as well.
US contractors are still rather hard to convince as they
tend to like using one machine and one tool, resulting in a
lot of machines on the worksite costing a lot of money, and
polluting just as much, says Henrik.
But we are convinced that we will increase the market
share in the North America through our recently opened a
distributor in Canada, ke adds.
Today, OilQuick has an annual turnover of some EUR 7,4
M, employs 21 persons and has an export level of some 80 %.
The company has about 15 distributors with service centers
around the world. Education in how to work with the system
is carried out both by the distributors and OilQuick itself.
OilQuick has a good pace despite the recession and
business is good.
We believe we can double our turn over in three years
and triple in fve years, says Henrik.
But the increase of turnover goes just as much for the
contractor, adds ke. When the contractors realize how they
loose money every day they continue use the conventional
method, they become OilQuick users and see the results for
themselves.
Many well-known European demolition contractors
already use OilQuick systems on the major part of their ex-
cavator range. Some example of companies are DEMCOM,
Rivtjnst i Norr in Sweden; AF Decom, PV and Dokken in
Norway; Preben Hockerup and Hvidberg in Denmark; and
Eberhardt, Straback and Lemle in Germany to name a few.
Unique know-how
In terms of competition, OilQuick is not that worried. The
system is well-patented, and OilQuick is by far the world
leader.
Some try to copy it of course but we have put so many
years of design and development behind our solutions so it
is seldom a copy works properly, Henrik says with a smile.
Liebherr is making a quick coupler for their machines on
a license from us, and there are a few others too, but none
like OilQuick.
ke Sonerud points out that OilQuick sits on a unique
well of knowledge which he believes is the reason the the
system has been so well-positioned.
The machine manufacturer knows the machines out and
Some quick facts
about OilQuick AB
The company OilQuick AB in Hudiksvall, Sweden actually dates back
to 1952 when John Sonerud, father of ke and grandfather of Henrik,
started a company together with his brothers Gottner and Erik.
Their business concept was to act as an intermediary between buy-
ers and sellers for secondhand agricultural machines, fodder, etc. During
the mid to late 50s the range had been extended to include motor saws,
freezers, fridges and even television sets for a short period. The brothers
also acquired secondhand Ferguson tractors from England.
In 1957, brothers Gottner and Erik left the business, and John
established Soneruds Maskin AB. At the end of the 50s agriculture
was not proftable in Sweden, and sales of agricultural machines slowed
down. John decided instead to start selling and, later, manufacture the
Hymas excavator. Sales of the Hymas excavator quickly grew. Between
1974 and 1979, production reached 600 machines a year.
In 1972, the company was sold and John Sonerud continued
to work in the parent company Soneruds Maskin AB. For some years,
different product were manufactured and sold. In 1978 and the winter
of 1979, Soneruds Maskin AB was converted into a development and
sales company, with the focus on its own patented accessories for
backhoe-loaders and excavators. Manufacturing would no longer take
place in-house, but would be placed with local subcontractors. At the
same time, the Hymas sales operation was wound up.
The frst product was the Grab John, an excavator bucket with
built-in hydraulic clamping claws. Grab John was launched in the
spring of 1980 with great success as a pole-planting bucket. In the
same year, Johns son ke became the new CEO of the company, a
position that he still holds.
Grab John quickly became an international product. During the
late 80s, around 45% of production was being exported to more
than ten countries in Western Europe. More than a hundred buckets
were manufactured under licence in Japan. Today thousand of Grab
John buckets have been sold and delivered to satisfed customers all
over the world.
As early as 1989 Soneruds recognized the need for a total quick
coupler solution for excavators and wheeled loaders that would allow
operators to automatically connect hydraulic tools directly from the cab.
But the market was not yet quite mature enough for this. John Sonerud
died in 1994, but his successful innovations, his smart solutions and his
spirit live on in the company.
The company now has a complete range of patented OilQuick quick
coupler systems for excavators, loaders and forklift trucks. During 2001,
a boom-mounted quick coupler was developed for material handling
machines. OEM agreements were negotiated with a number of leading
machine manufacturers. Almost fve thousand OilQuick systems have
so far been supplied to customers in the Nordic countries, the rest of
Western Europe and the US.
In conjunction with its 50th anniversary, the company changed its
name from Soneruds Maskin AB to OilQuick AB.
in and the same goes for the attachment manufacturers, he
says. But we as quick coupler manufacturer needs to know
both the machines and the attachments in order to create a
system that works for all.
OilQuick will be well-represented at the Bauma ex-
hibition in Germany. Besides having its own booth with
demonstrations, the OilQuick system will be mounted on
some 20 machines in the Caterpillar, Volvo, Hitachi, Huddig
and several others. While OilQuick will not show any new
items itself, the OEM product OQB 180, made for Hitachi,
will be demonstrated in the Kiesel Group booth. OilQuick
has made the quick coupler models OQB 100, 125 and 180
for Kiesel.

Zelenograd-based Adel in July
of 2007. Over this period, the
Russian manufacturer of pre-
mium-class diamond tools has
consolidated its leading posi-
tion in the domestic market
and started making inroads in
Europe. PDis Andrei Bushmarin
reports.
Adel is a company group that incorporates a number of
diversifed business units. This enables the group to monitor
the entire life cycle of its products, from manufacturing to
distribution to re-tipping.
18 years and getting better
Adels production capacities include Delta, the groups
fagship plant that manufactures diamond segments, and
contains a host of assembling lines for tools and re-tipping
facilities. An in-house R&D centre helps Adel always stay
a few steps ahead of the pack. The group distributes its
products via a nationwide network of selling outlets. Being
in the business for more than 18 years now, the Russian
company has long learned to make every conceivable type
of diamond tool for construction and stone applications.
Adels catalogue features a wide range of diamond blades for
wall and fat sawing, drill bits, tile sawing blades, polishing
pads and cups, and grinding tools.
The manufacturer also offers a wide variety of mass-
produced tools, and also develops and supplies custom-made
products for special jobs. Every such specifcation is designed
to be consistent with specifc requirements of a job or a
ADEL providing European
quality on the Russian scale
customer. Manufactured on Dr. Fritsch machines, Adel
products conform to the industrys highest standards. Qual-
ity of every item is meticulously checked at every stage of the
production process. Prior to going into serial production, a
new tool is extensively tested for its performance frst in the
laboratory, then in the feld. This approach ensures consis-
tently high quality and reliability of any Adel product.
Adels strongest suit
However good Adels ready-made tools are, it is diamond
segments that has really made the companys name.
The company has incorporated the global experience
into its own production to come out with a product that is
equally competitive in both the Russian and international
markets. For its segments, Adel only uses the best raw materi-
als from the world-known suppliers Element Six, Diamond
Innovations, Eurotungstene, Dr. Fritsch and BASF.
Having started out with making segments for drill bits,
Adel soon mastered the production of segments for foor and
wall blades. Manufacturing of high-quality segments for the
stone industry was the next item on Adels agenda, and the
company was quick to add it to its capabilities.
Today, Adel is far ahead of its competitors in Russia
by as the countrys biggest producer of diamond segments.
Europe, too, is getting taste of the manufacturers expertise
through its two fully-fedged subsidiaries that actively pro-
mote the Adel brand in Bulgaria and Turkey.
Sweeping range of segments
It is hard to imagine a job related to stone and concrete
cutting, drilling or grinding for which Adel cannot offer a
spot-on specifcation. Segments for wall and foor sawing,
core drilling, grinding and polishing applications are all
available from the Russian manufacturer.
Of the drill segment range, which accounts for the
largest share of Adels output, the most popular series are
BF500 and MIX. The BF500 is a premium-class segment
for a broad spectrum of drilling applications, equally ef-
fcient on concretes with differing aggregate and degree of
reinforcement. The MIX is a versatile segment of economy
that gives virtually an unlimited number of drilling options
when mixed with segments of other types.
Recently, the manufacturer has shifted its focus to
making segments for foor preparation jobs. Its solutions for
concrete and stone grinding are both competitive and cost-
effective. The GB00 and GB0 ranges, designed for rough
grinding jobs, are the most in-demand makes. Both speci-
fcations demonstrate a win-win combination of high-speed
operation and extended service time. Metal-bond segment
for fne processing of concrete and stone is another reliable,
high-quality offering from the Russian manufacturer.
Having already won over most of the Russian clientele
with an unbeatable price-quality ratio, Adel is now nip-
ping at the heels of the industrys majors. Once a humble
beginner, the Russian Adel has now grown into a serious
contender and a force to be reckoned with.

Making rectangular openings in brick or reinforced
concrete walls is a task which sawing and drilling
contractors face almost on a daily basis. Such
openings are usually made with wall saws. Due
to the geometry of diamond blade, overcuts
can occur in the openings corners that have
to be patched up after the cutting. It may pose
a real problem, if overcutting is off-limits due to
structural integrity or esthetical requirements. So
far, a common solution has been to drill holes
in the corners of the opening and chisel the
remaining material out. To eliminate this time-
consuming and cumbersome operation, CEDIMA
Diamantwerkzeug- und Maschinenbauges GmbH
has developed a cutting technique which involves
a combination of high-frequency electric chain saw
and wall saw. This technique enables making clean
cuts that require no further fnishing.
Once the opening is marked out, cuts are
made in four corners with CKE-943 F4 chain
saw. The new high-frequency electric chain saw
has a cutting depth of 430 mm and is driven by
a high-performance 9 kW motor. The saws bar
and chain are made of the new components of
ICSs serial Force 4. With a weight of only 12.5
kg, it demonstrates an unprecedented weight/
productivity ratio for this category of machines. This
operator-friendly chain saw is designed for smooth
and comfortable cutting. The water-cooled HF
Since December 2008, Adamas has ex-
perienced the effects of the construction
industrys global downturn. But instead of
sitting back and hoping for the best, Adamas
has used the current situation as an oppor-
tunity for its R&D engineers to come up with
something special to generate sales in these
difficult times.
But first, some history is order
The head office of Adamas is located in
The Netherlands where electric hand saw-
ing has been extremely popular since the
early 1980s. Electric wood saws are usually
adapted for wet cutting in concrete with 300
or 350mm diamond saw blades, and used
for small alterations and renovation jobs.
As machines became more powerful in
the last 10 years, contractors modified them
to cut with 500mm saw blades up to a depth
of 20cm in concrete and brickwork. This situ-
ation was regarded as unsafe and therefore
forbidden by health & safety organisations.
Contractors using these machines were heav-
ily fined. Recent years have seen increasing
demand for handheld electric saws for cutting
jobs up to 20cm, but no supplier had the
right product. Although electric wall saws are
capable of cutting up to 20 cm deep, they are
regarded as too big and heavy for these small
jobs. Adamas sales representatives in the
Netherlands and Belgium recognized this lin-
gering market demand and used it to launch
the R&D project. Nine months of thinking,
drawing and fine tuning led to an innovated
prototype named the Eazy Saw.
Easy sawing
The Eazy Saw consi sts of a 2200 Watt,
230 V electric drive motor protected against
overload by a thermal relay and a slip glue.
The aluminium gear case is integrated in the
saw arm, which connects to a carriage with
a patented hinge construction.
This hinge is the unique part of the Eazy
Saw. It is robust and rigid, and guides the
saw blade perfectly straight with minimum
friction between wall and saw blade centre.
That allows the relatively small motor to power
concrete cuts of up to 21 cm in deep. The
hinge also safeguards the operator when the
sawblade become jammed.
The carriage guides the Eazy Saw over an
aluminium track, which is bolted to the wall.
Tracks are available in lengths of 1,3 and
2,3 meters, and have integrated double spirit

electric motor runs virtually without any vibration.
Another advantage of the new CEDIMA machine
is the complete absence of the noise and smell
which fuel chain saws are notorious for.
After the 90 cuts have been made in the
corners of the opening, its sides are sawed with
wall saw WS-290. The CKE-943 F4 and the
WS-290 are both equipped with a high-frequency
electric drive. Despite its small size, the wall saw
is very powerful: driven by a 11 kW motor, it
is designed to cut construction materials up to
430 mm deep with up to 1,000 mm blades.
Given this, a 800 mm saw blade can be used
without a precut.
Both machines are operated with universal
high-frequency control HF-16. The control auto-
matically identifes type of the machine to provide
optimal operating parameters. The wall saw is
operated with a remote control set.
The wall-sawing done, the concrete block is
then removed leaving an opening whose clean
edges need no patching-up or fnishing. The
combination of the CKE-943 F4 and the WS-290
allows for high daily output at a low level of tool
consumption. With no cost involved for a second
control, CEDIMAs new wall sawing solution is also
attractive from the investment point of view.

levels and rubber bumpers. Spacer plates
are available for uneven walls. The cutting
process always starts with a 350mm saw
blade, after wich a 450mm or 540mm
saw blade could be mounted. Along with
minimizing the physical load on the opera-
tor, the hinge permits plunge cuts in steps
of up to 5 cm.
Cooling water for the saw blade runs
through the gear case, and i s effi ci entl y
distributed via the saw shaft to minimize
consumption. An ergonomic rubber grip and
a spray control cover on the blade guard
prevent excessive sprays of water onto the
wall, floor and operator, greatly reducing
cleaning time.
Adamas officially introduced the Eazy
Saw in early November at an exhibition for
focussed diamond drilling and cutting con-
tractors in The Netherlands. The response
was very positive. The contractors claimed
that the Eazy Saw fi l l s the gap between
hand held saws and mini wall saws. Practice
tests show that the Eazy Saw can appled
for a large variety of specific cutting jobs in
concrete and brick work. The Eazy Saw will
make its international debut at BAUMA 2010
in Hall A1-144.

Based in Hoofddorp, just outside Amsterdam, the company
has around 25 employees that develop and produce a set of
both standard tools and machines, for example drills, saws,
grinders, drilling stands and sawing machines. However, the
companys speciality is the development and manufacture of
very special tools, rigs and machines for mainly customers
in the Benelux countries.
Tailor-made systems increasing
Diacoms technical manager, Eric Conijn, explains: Es-
pecially during a crisis period like now, when volumes of
most standard products have fallen sharply, our develop-
ment and production of tailor-made concrete cutting and
sawing machines, tools and segments is our strong business,
especially for our domestic clients.
For example, we have quite recently developed and
built a drill lorry on rail for the public transport company
in Amsterdam - Gemeentelijk Vervoerbedrijf (GVB) - to
renovate the Amsterdam rail network.
GVBs staff maintains, repairs and replaces the rail
tracks themselves. The unique thing is that they do it when
the trams still roll on the tracks. In peak hours, the trams
ride every three minutes in some locations.
When GVB replaces the worn out tracks they take
away 100 meters of track in one go, even when the trams
still drive over it. They need to drill many 25 mm holes
to place the new anchors.
Therefore, GVB needed drilling machines that can
both work very fast and be removed from the track very
often, as trams frequently need to pass through. So Diacom
designed the drill lorry, which holds two ordinary Weka
DK18 drill motors and weighs just 40 kg.
Tools for each situation
Diacom has developed and manufactured another tailor-
made machine for the Dutch demolition company Vogel-
zang BV. At the construction site of a new
large power plant in Eemshaven, in the
northern part of the Netherlands, some
9000 concrete poles have so far been thrust
into the soft ground to provide a good
strong base for construction .
The general contractor for the new
power plant wanted these poles to be cut
to the exact same level, but needed the
rebar intact.
And we manufactured a machine,
which cuts the poles (with a surface of
45x45 cm) 4 cm deep so the rebar is not
cut, Rob explains. After this is done,
the pole is easily crushed off from its cut
and with the rebar intact. This machine
has 4x 230 blades which saw at the
same time and can cut the pole in only
45 seconds.
Rob explains further that, The only
trouble we had was that some of the poles
were not square, but round-shaped. These round poles
need to be cut off completely. So we developed a second
machine, which was based on a wire saw.
Another special machine had to be developed when
the European Union was participating in a global inves-
tigation about the pollution of corals in
the coral reefs.
They way they wanted to measure
the pollution, they had into look into
the coral in the sea all over the world,
Rob says.
Diacom designed tools for this
particular job. Because coral is very
delicate, the cores needed to be intact.
These were drilled out and brought to
the surface for investigation.
We can actually respond to any
customers needs very fast, Rob says.
For example, we normally develop and
build tailor-made machines like these in
three to four weeks. When it comes to
special request of tools and segments,
customers here in the Netherlands
often come to us in the afternoon and
have the tools delivered early the next
morning.
Last but certainly not least, there is
one more Diacom specialty that is worth mentioning.
We can actually perform maintenance and repair any

CSDA launches com-
pany certifcation, the
frst of its kind in the
industry
The Concrete Sawing & Drilling Association (CSDA)
has announced the launch of the CSDA Certifcation
Programme for sawing and drilling contractors. The
3-tier audit program has been developed by the
CSDA Certifcation Committee to provide owners,
architects, engineers, general contractors and
government offcials with a valuable prequalifcation
tool, improve the knowledge and skills of cutting
contractors and enhance their public image. The
frst of its kind in the industry, the program aims
to educate the marketplace that hiring a certifed
company will eliminate risks associated with hiring
a sawing and drilling contractor who may otherwise
be seen as another unknown subcontractor. CSDA
is the only association representing the interests of
cutting contractors. CSDA has been a leader in the
development of safety and training programs since
1993. Since that year, more that 2,000 employees
have graduated from the hands-on and online
training programs that have been established, while
safety materials such as the CSDA Safety Manual,
Safety Handbook, Toolbox Safety Tips and a series
of safety DVDs have been produced to help maintain
safe working environments.
Sawing and drilling contractors can attain
one, two or all three levels of certifcation. Level 1
has been devised to evaluate if a company meets
Criteria for the programme have been pre-
pared by CSDA contractor members who want
to advance the level of professionalism of the
industry in response to a growing call from general
contractors and governmental offcials to produce
verifcation of a companys skills and professional
qualifcations.
To maintain a competitive edge in todays
marketplace, contractors must be able to provide
formal standardized certifcation to show they
maintain high levels of safety, skill and profes-
sionalism. CSDA Certifcation Committee Chair
Kellie Vazquez of Holes Incorporated, Houston,
Texas, has spearheaded the creation of the
program. The importance of having a program
in place to recognize a contractors achievements,
and for that contractor to be able to present these
achievements to a potential client, may prove to be
invaluable when competing for jobs, she said.
The CSDA Certifcation Program is available
to all CSDA contractor members. It doesnt matter
if the company is small or large; whether it runs
three trucks or 10. Company-wide certifcation
addresses the profciency of owners, operators
and managers at running a company. Company-
wide certifcation looks at the management of
operations, fnances, human resources, equip-
ment maintenance, scheduling, management,
training and development. Certifcation of a given
level is awarded depending on how well the
company fares.

the basic safety and fnancial requirements of the
industry. To attain Level 2, a company must show
it is undertaking sound operational and fnancial
best practices in addition to the criteria set out
for the frst level, while providing evidence that
the company has took part in basic training or
certifcation programs to better its employees and
the company as a whole.
Level 3 will provide potential clients with proof
that a company has a total quality management
system in place, and that the contractor is committed
to a high standard of safety and sound business
practices. The program is an industry-specifc quality
audit that mirrors the standards set by accreditations
such as ISO9000. In fact, by attaining Level 3 of the
CSDA Company Certifcation Program, a company
will automatically be ISO9000 compliant.
Dianne Cutter, president of PQS, Inc. and a
consultant who has been hired to assist in the
development of this program, describes the reasons
behind the launch of the program. This part of the
construction and renovation industry is very much a
niche market, with no accreditations or certifcations
specifcally customized for concrete cutting contrac-
tors. By implementing this program, a company
can present a seal of approval from an industry-
recognized organization to prospective customers
that will differentiate them from the rest, she said.
This will also provide the customer with confdence
that the company is fnancially and operationally
stable, and meets a standard of excellence in its
specifc discipline, Cutter added.
