New diagraming techniques were implemented using paper, ribbon, and tissue to
create site diagrams. The geometric fabric of the surrounding city is shown with the
different types of people populating the site including tourists from the Colosseum (in
orange) and community members (in green).
The building location on the site
was chosen for souther orientation
of classrooms to achieve optimal
light collection.

The kindergarten uses multiple systems to be as environmentally conscious as
possible. The walkway contains biological fltrated ponds as well as in the chil-
drens garden. The rain collection can be stored and used to water the gardens
and landscape. The photovoltiac panels harvest energy from the sun to reduce the
use of grid power being used as well as shades the large windows from direct sun-
light. The orientation to the south insures use of day-lighting and provides interior
spaces with light from clerestory windows.

The children of the Montessori Kindergarten learn
by experience in their classroom and outdoor
space. Each classroom contains its own bathroom,
shelving for toys and book storage as well as
access to the cushioned rubber outdoor play
space shaded by photovoltaic panel. The children
can also play in the garden and experience the
feld while staying in their own safe environment.

VOLUME ANALYSIS OF THE GREENWAY
Throughout history the density of infrastructure around the Greenway has
changed into what we recognize today. Contributions to the volume fuctuation
in the area are taller buildings being constructed, population trend rising
and falling, and the implementation of traffc infrastructure. The Greenway
is populated by the community that surrounds it today including the North
End, the Wharf District, Dewey Square, and China Town. The amount of
people utilizing the Greenway fuctuates between different parcels as well
as different times of the day. Focusing on Dewey Square there is a trend
of heavy use during mid-day. The volume of people occupying the adjacent
buildings changes in relation to the Greenway becoming activated.
The diagram above shows the
volume of people that occupy
each building. The darkest
shaded buildings have the most
people and the lightest have the
least. The lines display common
paths that people take through
out different times of the day.
The trend observed is that most
people use the sidewalks to travel
directly to work in the morning, use
the paths through the Greenway
at midday, and more random
routes after work.

A Day in the Life of : Population Trend in Relation to Urban Development
As population rises buildings are demolished for the creation of the
Central Artery in response to rising commuter rates. Technology
trends spur the increase of tall buildings in Boston along the
Greenway starts in 1959 to hide the Central Artery and develop the
parcels of the Greenway called out in blue on the maps. The Big Dig
starts in 1959 to hide the Central Artery and develop the parcels of
the Greenway we have today.

Boston south End MiddlE school
The city seeks proposals for a middle school to replace the existing
outdated elementary school on the site. On the master plan for the
current site includes proposed buildings that can be developed in
the future for non-school uses. The school design is submerged in the
community which has a residential area to the west and public buildings to the
east. Curb modifcations have been made for prime access with a bus drop off
location as well as walk ways through the site. Ample gathering spaces formed
around the building utilize open land for use by the school as well as community
members. The courtyard design emphasizes natural light and connection with the
outdoors. The courtyard space is an inhabitable controlled outdoor space brought into
the boundaries of the school walls for access by students and faculty.

The massing of the school program on
the site was a typical urban strategy of a
courtyard plan. The main public programs
on the frst foor include the gym,
auditorium, cafeteria and administrative
offces.

Circulation Classroom Space Fenestration Storage
This portion of the school project focuses on the scale
of the students and teachers. The classroom design
fts into the scheme of the school design with one side
of each classroom connecting to the interior circulation
area and one side facing an exterior space. The
grouping of 2 classrooms in plan are used in a linear
corridor which is on the second and third foor of
the school. The classroom wings designed in two
opposing L forms are separated by grade with specialty
classrooms on the corners. The classroom investigation
shows the layering of zones from the public space of
the corridor through the semi-private spaces of the
classroom and then back out to exterior space.

Basic structural considerations were
pursued in the design. An exterior facade
of masonry with cinder block support and
a steel column grid through the structure.

Ocean View Farm
Ocean View Farm was originally established as a private equestrian residence in Amagansett NY. After
years of horse use the owner is expanding its uses to events, concerts and polo matches. With the expansion
comes the need to rework the existing post and beam barn which houses fourteen horses as well as ten suit
accommodations above for visitors. Within the scope of expansion comes the proposal of a vineyard village which
would turn open acreage into rows of grapes for harvesting and along with eight villas. In another development
plan came the expansion of the barn and subdivision of land into regulated polo feld. The 26 acres and barn are
still in development, the work done here was preliminary studies of the facility and its capabilities.
Extension of existing barn plan with proposed
addition of 17 new stalls situated on the exterior
isles. Expansion proposed for polo facility
accompanied by a land development plan of
surrounding acreage.
