Lesson 1

A Review of Educational Technology 1

1.

Discuss the disparity in educational technology advancement in schools of

industrialized First World country (such as the U.S., England, Japan, Singapore, Australia) and a still developing country, namely the Philippines. This disparity is magnified many times when it comes to the educational technology advancements made by those industrialized countries compared to the poorer developing ones. Lack of money has a direct result on educational resources and the impact is great. Naturally, there are some people in developing countries who are wealthier than the average and they have an education that corresponds with that wealth, but in the main it means that the population of poorer countries (and therefore the county itself) is unable to compete in a global economy, because it follows that if a poorer education is given at school level, very few, if any, of those pupils will be able to take advantage of further and higher education.

2.

Given the lack of resources in our rural areas in the Philippines, what

media can still be used for effective learning in schools? (clue: traditional media)

The growing use of technology, particularly computers, in instruction has placed a whole new set of demands on the construction, maintenance, and modernization of school facilities. Although technology in schools is a much broader concept than simply the use of computers, it is computers that are most frequently thought of in discussions of educational technology today. Schools face problems with acquiring adequate numbers of computers, replacing them

on a regular and frequent basis, providing the electrical power to operate them in each classroom, and providing and maintaining the wiring infrastructure needed to keep them connected with the school and across the district and the community more generally. Therefore..the government must imply an educational planning in schools in regards to this matter.

3.

Computer shops are pervasive around schools, but these are mainly used

for playing games. Without judging on the possibly dehumanizing effects of excessive computer game habits, how can a learner best used computer resources as they may be available in schools or at home?

The learner use best computer for the information they want to know on their assignment, activities, etc. they can use the different websites information on their research. They can use computer as the library. instead of going to library you use the computer to search everything.

Lesson 2
An Overview: Educational Technology 2

1. Many college students are presently required to take Computer courses including word processing ( Microsoft Office), spreadsheet preparation (Excel), presentation techniques (PowerPoint), etc. How do you think this will help application of skills needed in Educational Technology 2?

This will help application of skills needed in educational technology 2 because this are the basic programs/ software that is going to be used in the educational Technology 2 subject.

2. From those who have done internet surfing/searching/reading, what do the Websites offer users? For me, information is what the websites offers to those who have done internet surfing, searching and reading. It also offers online experience, we as users can also create our own websites since there is already website that we are free to make own site. It also offers some socialization sites where we can have our friends and chat with them. There are many search engines where we can search our assignments and answer our queries.

3. Do you think there are enough websites for educational purposes? Do you think there many users of educational websites?

Yes, there are enough websites for educational purposes. You just have to search it or ask someone who knows about this websites. For now it is very rare to see somebody using or visiting these sites. but I am very sure that it will increase as people get educated about the importance of these websites.

Lesson 3
Educational technology in the Asia Pacific Region

0 How do the Philippine compare with schools in progressive countries in the Asia Pacific region? There are many schools in the Philippines that are equipped with those technologies in education for other. The Philippine schools are very far behind compare with the schools in progressive countries in the Pacific region.

The plan of the Department of education is to supply computers to public

elementary and high schools at a ratio of 1 school 1 computer. how adequate or inadequate do you find this plan considering that the public school system in the Philippines has an average of 1,000 students in each school.

I find it inadequate since there are many students in each public school compared to private schools we are in modern generation now and its very important for the students to learn how to use those advanced technologies for educational purposes and for the students to be more knowledgeable enough with those use in education.

2 What can be proposed so that the Philippines can cope up with its neighbors on IT education?

Our country Philippines can cope up with its neighbors on IT education, it is better to have more advanced technologies. It is better to educate students starting from elementary on the computers we are using so that may be able to use it in the future since we are in modern generation.

3 Filipinos, including students, are hooked up on cell phone texting. It is enough for information skills literacy for our citizens and youths? Mention the benefits and disadvantages of our texting culture.

Phone texting is not enough for information skills literacy and youths because too much use of cell phone is not good especially others may used it in a different way. others may use it for them to enjoyment for them not to get bored. But other use it in a nice way. Cell phone serves also as an important gadget for communication. But, the information we are getting is not enough especially that we still have to spend money for load just to communicate others.

Create a grid to differentiate technology- integrated instruction from the traditional instruction process.

TRADITIONAL INSTRUCTION The use of the blackboard, chalk, and textbook to discuss at the top of their voices Traditional instruction are good because the students learn to listen carefully and think There is a tendency that students would be bored and could even fall asleep during the class. Traditional like showing small pictures or photos ,making worksheets and answering through worksheets or paper that can made the paper untidy.

IT-INTEGRATED INSTRUCTION The ones modern teacher use

This is with the use of the computer gadgets and internet. This kind of instruction is more convenient because of the easy access of the information from different sources over the internet. It integrated can be use anywhere with the internet access.

Lesson 4
Basic Concepts on Integrating Technology in Instruction

0 What are your ideas about students spending off school time playing computer games in computer cafes/rooms? Our idea about students spending off school time playing computer games in computer cafes/room, we think because they are obsess and curious in some computer games and they find recreational activities in playing computer games because they are bored, they feel that much of their lives spending in school.

1 What do you say to the plan of the Department of Education to supply one computer unit to each public school (average school population is 1,000 students) in the country? We think that it is not enough to supply only one computer unit to each public school because it cannot provide the needs of each students when it comes in searching or research or it is not easy for them in familiarizing using computers or better Department of Education must provide an E learning room that consists 30 computer units, with the ratio of 1 is to 3, 1 students per 3 students so that the students learn through hands on computer skills.

2 What do you think is really the wisdom of introducing expensive technology in schools of Third World (peasant) countries?

It is not something you want to suddenly bombard students with, but gradually introduce. The introduction of new technologies will give those students a chance to learn the basics of using that technology, and allow them to apply it in real world situations, as well as helping to overcome the technophobia which exists in many undeveloped countries.

3 While Educational Technology 2 is not about teaching computer skills, do you

believe adequate hands on computer skills are necessary to put technology integration into practice? Give reason for your answer. Absolutely yes, because we are now in the modern world, we need to put technology integration necessarily because it is now part of our lives. Most of our needs are now possible and it makes our lives more comfortable and easy through the help of advance technologies.

0 What do you say to educators who say technology in teaching takes time and is expensive?

It doesn't take as long as you think it might take. There will always be new technology for people to learn with. Technology should make teaching easier and maybe a bit more exciting for everyone to learn something they never learned before. It is also easier to change some information that lets say a textbook or an encyclopedia has to offer. It is expensive but sometime technology contains more information than the average textbook.

1 What can you say about teachers who use media simply to make classes

entertaining and fun? Media is a powerful tool not only to disseminate information knowledge and entertain but also influence opinion. entertainment and fun is a part of learning to enable a child to imbibe information and knowledge better in an informal environment when a child's ability to assimilate concepts are better than a formal environment. Every teacher has their own methodology to instruct. It therefore is a innovative method that a teacher employs to give better result and performance than in a rigid environment.

2 Comment on the opinion that ET- supported instruction is difficult to assess?

It is not difficult to assess for me, because as a teachers we studied on how to assess the performance of the students and we use some guidelines and rubrics in assessing our students and with the use of technology, it's up to the teacher on how they give a task or assessment to the students where everyone uses technology.

3 What could future learners have as advantage over present-day learners?

They are more equipped with the advanced technologies that we are using. Future learners will have another type of technologies which are easier to use and is helpful in education. They can also have more learning on these technologies than the present learners. The most valuable advantage of the future learners is that they can encounter modern high technology, newer references and book that may serve as their guide for the development and fulfillment of their objective in life.

Do the new learning theories mean we should stop memorization and drill activities in class? Why?

No because we have to be aware also for using the basic and the new one (ET). The one we have today the modern technology for education. Memorization is also relevant to learning process because if we do not memorize things definitely we cannot give our ideas or our insights about and explain if effectively. And if we do not do some drill activities how can we perfect or enhance our ability towards the lessons. There are official truths/principles in such disciplines as Ethics, Chemistry, Physics, History, etc. Do you think Constructivism really want to abandon universal truths/principles? (Clue: some beliefs result from faulty information, ancient/unscientific traditions. Primitive people believed the world was flat. Can you cite other examples of untruthful beliefs?)

No because when we say universal truths or principles, it is true and it has been undergone more testing and it has been proven. And when we say constructivism it is the creating of new concepts, ideas or knowledge. Can personal discoveries contradict socially/culturally accepted principles or values? (Clue: revolutions are cause by those in power like despots unwilling to change their ways. What did Jose Rizal and other patriots discover about colonization of the Philippine islands?)

Yes, because any personal ideas or discoveries as well is a product of constructivism and it may affect the beliefs of people towards their past beliefs.
