The new BMW Series is a true head-turner in its totality and in every
detail. Anyone approaching it from the front will be immediately captivated
by its elegance. The BMW double kidney grille emphasises the natural
presence of the Saloon and the expressive apron underlines the exclusive
character. Particularly striking are the front headlights which combine
safety with exquisite design. They are also a perfect example of the beauty
of cutting-edge light technology. For improved visibility, the indicators
are integrated into the wing mirrors one of many head-turning details.

Some encounters make a particularly captivating impression as
demonstrated by the new BMW Series Saloon. Even the rear prole
impresses the beholder: a dynamic design perfected with the utmost
elegance. Its horizontal contouring, emphasised by the distinctive
chrome strips, accentuates the visual impression of width. And the
rear lights, set within a contrasting double L-shaped design, round
off an exclusive overall picture with their striking night-time presence.

See what matters: Adaptive LED headlights. If the eyes are the
mirror of the soul, what you see in the headlights of the newBMW Series
is the very spirit of self-assurance through unprecedented design and
innovative technology that illuminates the road in every situation. Their
at, top-cut design gives the front a commanding, elegant appearance
that is clearly focused on the road. The two distinctive rings within the
headlights emphasise, day and night, the condent appearance of the
new BMW Series, above all when equipped with the optional Adaptive
LED headlights. One stand-out feature is how, for the daytime running
lights and low-beams, illumination comes exclusively from the striking
light rings.
The design of the front headlights is as impressive as the technology is
fascinating. The latest LED system ensures a strikingly bright white
light which illuminates the road with even greater precision. Discretely
integrated into the optional Adaptive LED headlights for enhanced
safety and comfort, the Adaptive cornering lights with turning lights
optimally illuminate the carriageway and the road edge when cornering
and turning. The anti-glare High-Beam Assistant, meanwhile, enhances
safety as much for the driver as it does for oncoming trafc.
Because the high-beam remains switched on without dazzling drivers of
vehicles in front or in oncoming trafc, visibility is signicantly improved.
As for the light technology of BMWNight Vision, this can now be optionally
supplemented with the new Dynamic Light Spot. This adds a bright
spotlight to the thermal image of the infra-red camera for added focus
on detected pedestrians. So rst impressions are conrmed: the new
BMW Series Saloon is replete with a vast range of technologies,
perfectly reected in the charismatic appearance of the front headlights.

To this end, the innovative technology package optimises the interplay
between the driver and the environment. The best example of this is
ECO PRO mode
, which always finds the most efficient route to driving

pleasure with a multitude of possibilities. Its integration into the Driving
Experience button is proof enough. As impressive as the Comfort+,
Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes, ECO PRO not only gears the whole
vehicle towards maximum efficiency, it also, with ECO PRO tips, supports

ECO PRO mode offers special advantages through the intelligent fusion

reason for this is that all cockpit controls are geared towards the needs
of the driver. One, not immediately obvious, feature is particularly
impressive: the optional multifunction instrument display
from BMW
ConnectedDrive. Only the chrome rings indicate what to expect once
the start button is pressed. You soon see, however, a completely new
set of display functions that clearly demonstrate the prowess of
the new BMW Series. All important information is presented in the
multifunction instrument display according to the drivers exact
requirements. The zoom function, with its various size options, is just
one of many examples and ensures even greater driving comfort.

BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Recognition and Dynamic Light Spot
.
The optional BMW Night Vision system with Pedestrian Recognition is supplemented in the new
BMW Series with two innovative Dynamic Light Spots. As soon as the thermal imaging camera
in the double kidney grille detects pedestrians up to metres ahead of the vehicle, they are
displayed on the Control Display and also directly illuminated with two high-performance LED light
spots. This helps drivers register pedestrians earlier and react accordingly. The Dynamic Light
Spots replace the LED fog lights in the front apron.
Driving Assistant incl. Lane Departure
Warning and Approach Warning
.
Driving Assistant with Lane Departure Warning
incl. radar-based Approach Warning registers
lane markings at a distance of metres and
from a speed of around km/h. Drivers are
alerted by a gentle vibration on the steering wheel
if the car is likely to cross a lane marking. If the
indicators are activated, meaning the manoeuvre
is intentional, the warning is suppressed. The
camera-based Approach Warning detects
vehicles in front and warns if they are too close
or there is a risk of collision.
Multifunction instrument display
.
The optional multifunction instrument display offers a unique visualisation of the driving experience.
For the rst time, it allows drivers to select the visual and graphic appearance of information in the
instrument display according to driving mode via the Driving Experience button. The standard
display is Comfort mode, ECO PRO mode is selected for efcient driving and Sport mode offers
a new speed and rpm indicator. The new digital displays increase convenience, safety and driving
pleasure by emphasising information according to the situation, for example, by increasing the
display size.
Active Protection and Attention Assist.
With Active Protection, your BMW reacts precisely to danger. The system becomes active shortly
after start-up from a speed of around km/h and automatically adjusts the seat belt. If Active
Protection recognises a collision risk, the system immediately tightens the front seat belts, closes
the windows and the sunroof and thereby signicantly reduces injury risk. In addition, Attention
Assist monitors driving behaviour to detect tiredness and lapses in concentration. When these
signs are registered, a rest stop suggestion appears in the Control Display. Locations for an
appropriate place in the area can also be shown.
Adaptive turning lights incl. anti-glare
High-Beam Assistant.
The Adaptive turning lights incl. cornering
lights ensure optimal illumination of corners
as soon as drivers turn. The anti-glare High-
Beam Assistant regulates the high-beam
dependent on trafc, optimally illuminates the
road and thereby takes pressure off drivers. If
the system is active, an image sensor monitors
light conditions and trafc in front at a distance
of up to metres and regulates the high-
beam exibly. Oncoming trafc is recognised
at a distance of around , metres to reliably
prevent glare.
Full-colour BMW Head-Up Display
.
This projects driving information via a multi-
coloured TFTdisplay directly into the drivers
eld of vision. The optional BMW Head-Up
Display informs, for instance, on speed and
shows navigation data or, on request, Speed
Limit Info including No-overtaking Indicator.
Increased colours now make it even easier
to distinguish between general driving
information such as speed limits and urgent
warnings en route such as pedestrian in your
path (optional with BMW Night Vision). With
consistent focus on the road ahead, driving
becomes even safer.

This optional assistance system shows drivers
current speed limits as well as information on
overtaking restrictions in the instrument cluster.
A special camera captures information from
relevant trafc signs. This information is
processed together with data fromthe navigation
system via a control unit. Other features, such
as the vehicles rain sensor, are also employed.
This means that the system can even inform
drivers of variable speed limits in wet weather,
for instance according to the situation.

ECO PRO Route
.
Optional ECO PRO Route, in combination with
the navigation system Professional, ensures
even more economic fuel use. Based on your
individual driving style, the current trafc situation
and road prole ahead, the system calculates
the most economical route to your destination.
The route takes into consideration anticipated
speed and information stored in the navigation
system database (such as inclines, gradients,
bends, turnings and crossings).
Preview Assistant
.
To rank among the rst to use the intelligent
networking of ECO PRO mode and the vehicles
surroundings, youll need the latest-generation
navigation system Professional. Based on
navigation data, you receive recommendations
ahead of certain trafc situations, such as
turnings or speed limits. In this way, you know
in good time as to when you should decelerate
according to the course of the road ahead.
This kind of anticipatory driving also reduces
fuel consumption and makes for much more
relaxing journeys.
Coasting
.
The Coasting function comes as standard
with ECO PRO mode in the new BMW
Series. When the driver takes his foot off
the accelerator and does not brake, traction
is automatically disconnected from the
transmission and the car uses its own kinetic
energy for propulsion. Consequently, the
BMW glides along the road with minimum
fuel consumption.
ECO PRO mode
.
This mode, activated via the Driving Experience
button, allows drivers to achieve a reduction
in fuel consumption of up to per cent
,
depending on individual driving style. The
Coasting option is included in this mode,
while accelerator and transmission characteristics
and gearshifts are optimised. Heating/air
conditioning is also intelligently adapted.
Additionally, the ECO PRO tips function
contributes by advising drivers to, for instance,
moderate acceleration. The bonus range
indicator in the on-board computer shows
how many extra kilometres have been achieved
by driving efciently in ECO mode since the
last fuel stop. In conjunction with the optional

The new BMW ActiveHybrid

proves that a car can
become more efcient while, at the same time, delivering
even greater dynamics. This full hybrid has the latest
and most innovative BMW ActiveHybrid technology.
Using intelligent energy management, for instance, it
captures surplus energy, stores it and then converts it
back into motion whenever required. It also exploits
the cars kinetic energy to the full by using navigation,
vehicle location data and the route prole. This is done
in conjunction with the hybrid Preview Assistant to
achieve an extraordinarily efcient interplay of the
engine and electric motors. In ECO PRO mode, the
Preview Assistant recommends, for example, when to

Stationary climate control.
This can be used to have the automatic air conditioning cool the BMW
ActiveHybrid a few minutes before you get inside. It is done by the
electric air conditioning compressor so not a drop of fuel is burnt. The
system can be activated with the remote control.
Lettering and doorsill nisher.
This model is immediately recognisable from the ActiveHybrid
lettering behind the Hofmeister kink. The aluminium doorsill nishers
with ActiveHybrid lettering mark the threshold to a particularly
elegant interior showcasing workmanship of the highest quality.
Intelligent energy management. The new BMW ActiveHybrid
networks with the new-generation navigation system Professional to

.
When needed, electric power can be
supplemented by energy from the high-
performance battery for a short-term
increase in overall performance. The
central advantage of this technology is
spontaneous and strong power.
Driving on electricity
.
When ECO PRO mode is activated via the
Driving Experience button, the kW electric
motor enables driving solely on electric power
over distances of up to three to four kilometres.
Also in this mode, when the driver lifts off the
accelerator, the transmission interrupts the
ow of power to the engine and switches it off.
The BMWthen glides along in near-silence at
up to km/h. In the other modes, the vehicle
can coast at up to km/h.
Brake Energy Regeneration.
When the driver lifts off the accelerator and
applies the brake, kinetic energy is converted
into electrical energy and stored in the lithium-
ion high-performance battery.
Energy consumption history

The electrical energy consumption over the
past minutes of driving is displayed in a bar
chart. The higher the bar, the more the hybrid
system has been used and the greater the fuel
savings.

The best road for any BMW is
always one with lots of curves.
From long sweeping bends to
rapid sequences, their variety is
immeasurable and a unique joy
in the new BMW Series thanks
to attributes such as a lower centre
of gravity and intelligent lightweight
engineering. A host of chassis
components are manufactured
from aluminium. On the one hand,
this means increased renement
and greater driving comfort. On the
other, the weight of the engine on
the front axle is compensated for
and optimum weight distribution of
practically : is achieved.
Electromechanical Integral Active Steering.
Pleasantly light to use, enhancing agility in city trafc and ensuring straight-line stability on
the motorway this optionally available system masters every challenge. It combines speed-
dependent steering assistance with powered rear-wheel steering. At low speeds, the vehicle
is manoeuvrable and agile thanks to particularly direct power steering. The rear wheels are
also steered in the opposing direction those in front, noticeably reducing the turning radius in
the process. At higher speeds, the steering becomes less direct, thus stabilising straight-line
running and increasing driving comfort (standard on BMWLi, not in conjunction with xDrive).
Double-joint spring strut front axle.
Thanks to the sophisticated design of the
aluminium double-joint spring strut front axle,
the new BMW Series offers the greatest
level of comfort in all road conditions. It
stabilises straight-line driving, especially at
high speeds, and reduces to a minimum the
discomfort caused by poor road surfaces.
And because the shock absorbers are isolated
from any transverse and longitudinal forces
by the double-joint spring strut design, they
respond with even greater precision on poor
road surfaces.
Self-levelling pneumatic rear suspension.
The lightweight, all-aluminium integral rear axle ensures outstanding driving dynamics with
simultaneously high comfort. The new BMW Series is also equipped with self-levelling
pneumatic suspension as standard on the rear axle. This keeps the car at a constant height
under any load for further improved comfort.
BMW xDrive.
This intelligent all-wheel-drive system adapts perfectly to even difcult road conditions by always
providing maximum traction, straight-line stability and driving safety. As soon as xDrive detects
a tendency to oversteer or understeer from input such as steering angle and wheel speed, it uses
a regulated clutch to distribute traction exibly to the axles in fractions of seconds. With xDrive
(available for the BMW Li and standard on BMW Ld xDrive) and Dynamic Stability Control
(DSC), your BMW remains stable and on track.
Dynamic Drive.
The optional Dynamic Drive active chassis
control system, with its active anti-roll bars
on the front and rear axles, reduces bodyroll to
a barely perceptible minimum. Thus, steering
precision and load-change behaviour are
perceptibly improved. This, in turn, means a
more relaxing journey, particular for those
working in the rear (standard for BMW Li).
Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
This subsidiary DSC function enables
maximum propulsion on looser surfaces such
as snow or gravel thanks to higher thresholds
for engine and brake interventions. This,
in turn, means later stabilisation measures
so, depending on the situation, propulsion
is optimised and even sportier driving is
supported.

Safety
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).
This system, including Traction mode (DTC)
and enhanced safety and comfort functions,
detects imminent skids and stabilises the
vehicle within milliseconds. DSC works via
Integrated Chassis Management (ICM) in
coordination with Integral Active Steering
and Dynamic Drive (both optional).
When you drive the new BMW
Series, you are at the wheel of
one of the most advanced cars of
its time safe in the knowledge
that, in the event of an accident,
you have the best possible
protection. An ultra-modern hybrid
construction is used for the
bodywork. High-strength steel and
aluminium combine in numerous
components, thus reducing weight
and ensuring optimum stiffness.
Additionally, all safety components
are optimally adapted to one
another. The new Active Protection
system, for example, tightens front
seatbelts in critical situations and
automatically closes any open
windows and the optional sunroof.
Also, the enhanced Emergency
Call function, in conjunction with
optional BMW ConnectedDrive,
automatically transmits rescue-
relevant data, such as vehicle
position and injury risk. This means
that the rescue services can assess
injury risk more quickly and act
with greater efciently.
Adaptive LED headlights.
Adaptive LED headlights for high and low beam, incl. non-reective High-Beam Assistant, Adaptive
turning lights, cornering lights, side indicators and accent lights with LED technology. The bright
white light, similar to daylight, makes driving in the dark safe and comfortable, because the light
appears more high-contrast and brighter than the already very strong Xenon light.
Runat tyres.
Reinforced sidewalls mean tyres do not totally
collapse and remain on the rim, even if they
have lost all their air, so you can reach your
nearest garage safely. The Run Flat Indicator
(RFI) alerts you of a puncture: a slight pressure
drop is indicated by a light in the cockpit while
severe pressure loss triggers an audible
warning.
Passenger compartment.
With its functional structure and targeted use of high-strength materials in a hybrid construction,
the bodywork offers optimum passive safety in the event of a crash to the front, side or rear. The
bodywork structure absorbs impact energy through dened crumple zones and, to keep noise to
an absolute minimum, also has extensive insulation in the doors, the B and pillars and the luggage
compartment.
Active Protection.
This package of features provides optimum protection for all occupants in the event of a crash.
Active Protection tightens front seatbelts in critical situations and carries out a series of automatic
functions. It shuts open windows or the optional sunroof. Driver and front passenger seats and
Comfort seats in the rear are returned to the most suitable position. And driver and front passenger
seats and any Comfort seats in the rear are returned to the most suitable seat position. After an
accident, the vehicle can be brought to a halt independently so further collision damage can be
minimised or prevented. Attention Assist is another function of the Active Protection system.
Airbags.
A feature of the optimally interactive safety
components in a BMW. Six airbags provide
targeted protection: driver and front passenger
airbags, head airbags front and rear (Curtain),
and front side airbags.

The material is meticulously selected to preserve the natural
character and only flawless surfaces are chosen. This is followed by
special re-tanning and extremely gentle drying processes to keep
the leather supple and breathable techniques usually reservedfor
exquisite leather accessories. Finally, there is a complete absence
of artificial embossing and surface treatments. The result is an ideal
combination of the visual and the tactile with natural luxury and
velvety softness appealing to all senses. The leather is available in
a fascinating range of colours from Opal White to Cohiba Brown
and is further enhanced by elegant piping.

that, thanks to their high light refraction, transform

Pure Metal Silver metallic paintwork gives perfect
expression to the consummate design language
of the BMW Series: the chrome effect creates
a flow of contrasts and emphasises the elegant
lines and contours of this luxurious car.
The matt finish of the Frozen metallic paintwork
has a unique shimmer, making the contours of
the BMW series even more striking. This effect
underlines the sculptural character of the car.
Characterful structure. The process of craftsmanship begins with hand selection of the
most exclusive fine woods with uniquely expressive grain perfect pieces found in very
small numbers. To preserve the expressive lines and markings, the decorative surfaces are
crafted from a single piece of wood. An example of this unique elegance is the fine-grain
interior trimin Satin Walnut Honey Brown. Its high-qualityfinish gives the interior a very special
polish in the truest sense of the word.
An alternative to fine wood is the Piano Black interior trimwith a high-gloss finish matched
only by leading piano manufacturers.
Our aims are ambitious but we make them reality. We fulfil nearly every possible wish,
accounting for safety, brand character and legal requirements. Headrests can be
embroidered with monograms. Inlays can be incorporated or lettering engraved in the
interior trim. Individual insignia on the rear side windowblinds, personalised door sills

BMWIndividual paintwork shines with its unique interplay of colours. Take, for
example, BMWIndividual paintwork in Citrine Black metallic, a finish inspired by
a gemstone that is extremely rare in its natural form. This is the citrine, a stone
that owes its characteristic yellow colour to microscopic embedded particles.
A similar effect is created by the Xirallic
pigment in the paint. This makes the

surface appear as if the finest gold dust is glimmering through the deep olive
black and gives the BMWIndividual Series a brilliant gleam. Inside the vehicle,
BMWIndividual fine-grain Merino leather in Caramel with exclusive piping creates
a feeling of perfectly balanced comfort. The coordinated feel is underlined by
the extended leather-clad surfaces. The roofliner in Alcantara also conveys a touch

LED fog lights for improved safety
when visibility is poor.
Dynamic braking lights. For even greater safety, these help vehicles
following behind to see how hard you are applying the brakes. During normal
braking, they illuminate in full. In emergency braking, they start to ash.
Xenon lights for high and low beam, incl. automatic headlight range control
and headlight washing system for signicantly better illumination of the road at
night or in poor light.
Adaptive LED headlights for high and low beam, incl. anti-glare High-Beam
Assistant, adaptive turning lights, cornering lights, side indicators and accent
light with LED technology. The very bright light colour approximates daylight
for excellent visibility. It is emitted via all four light rings making the headlights
unmistakable day and night.
Adaptive turning lights incl. anti-glare High-Beam Assistant with variable
light distribution, incl. cornering lights for optimal illumination of bends as soon
as the driver turns. The anti-glare High-Beam Assistant automatically controls
the high-beam dependent on the trafc situation and optimally illuminates the
road (standard for Li).
Fog lights.
BMW Individual sun protection glazing for the rear side windows (from
the B-pillar) and rear window. The tinted glass reduces glare and ensures a
pleasant interior climate during hot weather.
Light package includes rear reading and footwell lights, exit lights and
vicinity lights in the wing mirrors and door handles.
Tailpipes: the Li, Li, Ld xDrive and ActiveHybrid L are tted
with two tailpipes integrated in the bumper. The rhombus-shaped tailpipes
(Li: double rhombus-shaped) are tted with a chrome frame.
BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line includes window recess covers
and window frame trim in high-gloss black.
BMW xDrive is an intelligent all-wheel-drive system that distributes drive
power exibly and variably to the front and rear axles for maximum traction,
directional stability and driving safety in every road situation (available for Li,

for the first time allows the driver to

choose the visual and graphic appearance of information in the instrument
display according to the driving mode via the Driving Experience button. Comfort
mode is the standard display, ECO PRO is selected for efficient driving and
Sport has a new speed and rpm indicator. The new digital displays increase
driving comfort and safety by emphasising information according to the driving
profile, for example, by increasing display size.
Park Assistant
helps with parallel parking. It measures parking spaces when

the car is travelling below km/h. When a space is found, the system takes over
the steering while the driver assists the manoeuvre with acceleration and braking
supported by handling recommendations in the Control Display and additional
acoustic tips (not available in conjunction with xDrive).
Driving Experience button, incl. ECO PRO activates ECO PRO, Comfort,
Comfort+ (depending on equipment), Sport or Sport+ (depending on equipment)
modes at the touch of a button. ECO PRO mode encourages an efcient driving
style.
Instrument cluster in Black Panel technology
with four analogue instruments

showing speed, rpm, fuel level and engine oil temperature above a high-resolution,
wide-format info display. This presents, for example, the current fuel economy
and range, as well as on-board computer functions, an odometer and a daily trip
recorder. The Black Panel technology displays in the instrument cluster appear
matt black when the ignition is switched off. Only the chrome rings of the circular
instruments with an opening at the bottom are visible in D. When the car is
opened, the chrome rings close and the dials and displays appear.
Control Display

Bang & Olufsen high-end Surround Sound system, with new Dirac
Dimensions signal processing for an open and lively soundscape and excellent

an automatically extending centre speaker. This speaker includes a mid-range
function and Acoustic Lens technology for consistent sound quality at any
seating position in the car. Choose between two settings: Studio for extremely

Pedestrian Recognition sends an optical warning signal to the driver as soon
as a person moves onto the road. Dynamic Light Spot triggers a further warning
by shining pivoting, high-performance light spots on detected pedestrians
for even earlier detection and appropriate driver reaction (Dynamic Light Spot
function not available in conjunction with M Sport package).
