What peace means to me In a country, Peace is a term that most commonly refers to an absence of aggression, violence or hostility.

Peace isnt the absence of violence but rather the presence of justice. In a society, peace happens when different desires are in one agreement. Peace is based on many things, culture, education, family values, experience, & history (to name a few) but the basis is the same----to co-exist without war, killing, & overpowering a fellow being. According to me, Peace is the feeling that all's right with the world. When everyone around me in my family, my friend circle and my neighbourhood is happy, eager to love, accept and relate I feel at peace. Also, to me it means following what my heart says and sharing mutual trust and respect for people around me. However, in todays world, peace and harmony face various threats. Terrorism, regional imbalance, economic disparity, and social inequality are some of the factors which threaten peace today. We all are so engrossed in our busy lifestyles and yet want our lives to be peaceful. We expect that peace to be omnipresent but what we need to realize is the fact that if we want peace- we have to live peacefully, love everyone, forgive, forget, etc. . Its not enough to stand around asking if world peace will ever happen because that wont do anything. Actions speak louder than any words. If everyone starts living the peaceful, loving way, things will change. But someone has to start and lead by example. Mahatma Gandhi once said "You must be the change you wish to see in the world. We cant rely on anyone else to do this. We have to do these ourselves. Acceptance, compassion, and tolerance are the foundation of peace. Mahatma Gandhi showed that peace ends suffering and oppression, not by warring against an enemy but by bearing witness to wrongs and allowing sympathy and common humanity to do their patient work. Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa lived different aspects of peace, which was proven to be a viable way to achieve great things. In the end, I would like to conclude by presenting this touching poem I found on net, which describes that peace takes the form we give it. I took a walk the other day and I asked Peace to come with me. We walked in silence most of the way

but then Peace whispered that she had something to say. She sang a song about Peace on Earth and held my hand in friendship She looked into my eyes in a compassionate way She danced like the wind on a calm summers eve, and then breathed a sigh which calmed my nerves. She made a wish that, by her hand, wars would end oppression would end And Justice would reign. Peace took me in her arms and rocked me to sleep And while I dreamed, Peace became me.

It was 25th December. I got up at 7 am. I touched the quilt and found it cold and wet. I looked outside through the window glass. It was all foggy. I left my bed unwillingly. How I passed the day: I covered my body completely with warm clothes- muffler, stocking and shoes. As I come out of my house, I found the day very cold and icy. Cold wind was blowing hard. Going for a walk was a difficult task. When I come on the read I found a dog lying dead. The grass was all white with frost. The earth seemed to be dead. On the Canal: I reached the canal. On both sides of if there were trees. They were also white with snow. The water in the pond bear the canal was frozen. There was perfect silence. Not a bird chirped and not wave rippled. It was a cold as could be. My nose was ice-cold. I began to shiver. Still I stayed to complete my daily routine of morning walk. I was all alone. A hut on the way: I left the bank of the canal after staying there for a short time because batting cold and frosty weather did not permit me to spend more time in the open. At last I reached a hut. I peeped in. There somebody was moaning inside. The poor man was frozen that night. I had not time to see him carefully. I placed a five rupee note to his poor wife. I came back home. How I spent the day at home: As I entered the house, I heard a roar of laughter coming from the drawing room. Why were they laughing? Oh! This was the coldest day. It was a day to eat; drink, and make merry. Friends had gathered. The fire was burning in the furnace and dishes were being prepared. It was a holiday or the happiest day in the life of the rich men. Conclusion: My friends chalked out a programme for visiting Mussorie for sight seeing. But amidst all this laughter and merry making I could not feel at home. My mind was still thinking of the hut where I had seen a dead man. I concluded that cold was the friend of rich but a moral enemy of the poor. This made me change my views on life.

Winter is the coldest season in the year. This year 1 January was the coldest day of the season, temperature fell below freezing point. It was a frosty the cold winds bit and burnt our faces. Water had a touch. Our teeth started chattering. The fingers refuse to work. Everyone liked to stay indoors. In the morning and evening, frost spread everywhere in the atmosphere. We sat beside the glowing hearth. Some people used electric heaters. Cold and biting winds blew and people remained within their rooms. Sometimes, it rained. We had to save ourselves from cold. Everyone used woolen clothes. The women wore warm shawls. People closed their business before time during the coldest evening. Every one took extra precaution to save him from pneumonia. The weak and the old cursed the coldest day of the season.
