What courses can IOSH approve?


We look at any health and safety course, whatever the level, whatever the audience, whatever the delivery format and work together with you to help your course gain IOSH approval. If youve written a course, have one youre already delivering, or are thinking about writing one, then talk to us to find out all the IOSH benefits.

Why get your course approved by IOSH?

Trust and confidence in your training

Trainers tell us they want the IOSH name attached to their course materials. We make sure your course has the right health and safety content, is aimed at the right level and is based on good practice.

Building an IOSH-qualified workforce

Every learner who sits a course approved by us is tested by an end-of-course assessment which leads to an IOSH-accredited qualification. Everyone who achieves the pass mark for the course is awarded an official certificate or passport card.

Working together

From the start, well give you advice, support and guidance to help you gain IOSH-approval. Youll work closely with a member of our team and youll also attend one of our Familiarisation Training Days.

Helping you get your course approved

Approving your course content and assessment


Well look at your course materials and check them against a set of standards: Learning and development Well make sure your materials: - facilitate a learning experience that is enjoyable and worthwhile - contain the exercises and tools to present an energised training programme. Assessment and learners Well make sure theres a suitable assessment which measures the learning objectives. Technical and compliance Well check that your materials: - contain details and explanations of current health and safety legislation and good practice - include the subjects we would expect from the title - suit the needs of the intended audience.

Trainer and competence

Youll need to have trainers with the appropriate level of skills and knowledge to run your course.

Quality control

Youll need to have someone within your organisation who has the appropriate knowledge, skills and experience to be responsible for the quality control of your IOSH training. This person must be an IOSH member at the correct level for the course youre proposing to deliver. We call this person your Nominated IOSH Member.

Approval costs
Your course approval costs depend on the amount of content in the course, its level of complexity and the delivery format (for example, face-to-face, eLearning). All approval costs are based on our approval rate of 425 per day. Well confirm the time it will take to approve your course upon sight of your materials. You can use the list of course titles below as a price guide and please talk to us for an accurate quote on costs and time to approve.

When you submit your course materials for approval, youll need to pay a non-refundable deposit of 300 + VAT (for any course, in any format). This deposit will then be deducted from the total approval price youve been quoted. If youd prefer, you can pay the approval fee in full instead. All prices exclude VAT and may be subject to change.

Additional costs
Becoming licensed to deliver your IOSH-approved course - Familiarisation Training Day: 45 per person (As a minimum, either - Initial IOSH licence fee: 180 per course title Running costs for your course
When youve become licensed to deliver your IOSH-approved course, youll have some running costs: your Nominated IOSH Member or your lead trainer must attend.)

- Annual licence renewal fee: 100 per course title - Course fee: Youll need to pay a course fee each time you run
a course. As a general rule, the course fee is 10 per day per course.

- IOSH certificates: As part of your terms and conditions

of licence, youll issue every successful learner with an IOSH certificate that well produce for you. Certificates cost: 20 per person for face-to-face or blended learning courses 22.50 per person for distance learning (including registration) 25 per person for eLearning (including registration) learners the option of an IOSH passport, which costs: 25 per person for face-to-face or blended learning courses 27.50 per person for distance learning (including registration) 30 per person for eLearning (including registration)
