Its Monday and another work week has begun. Hence the question Whats for lunch? Sonios has been called the power lunch place and our customers the veritable whos who of Las Vegas. It gets family crazy in there Victoria Kaer, and it all starts with a smile and a greeting from the owners Yiorgo or his father, better Author known as Uncle Teddy. Youre in their house and they are going to make sure you eat well. If moist perfectly seasoned rotisserie chicken is what you want for lunch Members it is served in 1/4 or 1/2 chicken portions with two sides. This type of chicken is a Our Sponsors Chicago mainstay along with other Chicago items on the menu, such as Chicago Style Our Social Members Italian Beefs (we prefer ours dunked), Chicago Style hot dogs with famous krinkle fries. Restauranting has been in my family for generations, my uncle owns the famous Johnnies Beef in Elmwood Park and Schaumburg said Yiorgo. He continued to tell us that his father, Uncle Teddy owned Teddys, the original Lukes, and Tumbleweeds back in the Chicago land area. But Sonios is not only famous for lunch, they also are famous for their catering menu. Homemade lasagna and stuffed peppers to name a few. Our members can attest to Sonios claim of many imitate, but none compare.

On January 25th, 2013 we were promoting and supporting our Business Members Tim & Cathy Korney, owners of Windy City Beefs & Dogs at the grand opening of their newest business WINDY CITY BEEFS N PIZZA. The day started with the formal introduction of their business partner on this venture, Dakota Nitz, then the hustle & bustle of staff members preparing the restaurant for what we knew would be a busy day. We did an 11:00 am yellow ribbon cutting, and then it hit. Scores of former Chicagoans and the likes stepped thru the doors with huge smiles on their faces while their eyes scanned the walls covered in Chicago decor and greeted by yours truly. They came hungry and looking for that Chicago x. And boy, did we give it to them. With the 40 minute deep dish pizza baking in the oven, new friendships were made as people shared tables for their half price dine in only offer. And believe it or not, many customers ordered the #4 Windy City Vienna Corned Beef Reuben and raved at how authentic it was. The Grand Opening was like visiting the old neighborhood. We send out a huge Thanks uzzzz guys to all who stopped in and celebrated with us.

NORTH SIDE / SOUTH SIDE

North or South? It sounds like a simple question. Right now inside your head, all kinds of answers to that simple question are formulating. Most, more than likely, have to do with the Civil War. However, if you are from Chicago that particular question holds an entirely different meaning altogether. Yet, it is one that can dissolve into arguments, some might say, that could rival a Civil War battle. What it comes down to for us Chicagoans is this: Are you a Cubs fan or a White Sox fan? North side or South side? You have to pick one or the other; it is a Chicago requirement of residency. You simply cannot love both teams; sorry the cross-town rivalry is just too epic in proportion for such things as a split in loyalty. Cubs fans and White Sox fans are equally serious in their devotion to their team. Though, some might say the Cubs fans have a slight edge with their seemingly manic devotion, since the team tends to lose, a lot. That devotion can be seen every year in Las Vegas during Big League Weekend when the Cubs are in action or inaction, whichever they manage to pull off, at Cashman eld on March 16 and 17. Not to say that the Sox fans havent seen their share of losing seasons, it simply seems that, somehow, the Cubs are expected to lose. A perfect example, we were driving and spotted a SUV with a large Cubs logo plastered across the back window with the words Maybe next year in large lettering above it. Despite their tendency to lose nearly every season, the Cubs fans remain forever loyal. Not to imply that Sox fans arent as loyal. They are, despite their own failures here and there. Of course, the Sox fans dont have a goat curse to blame for their teams loses. But that is a story for another time. Chicagoans are staunchly loyal to their teams. Friendships (even marriages and family relations) are fretted overnot because that particular person did anything horric that would cause you to end your relationship with them but because they are perhaps a Cubs fan while you are a Sox fan, or vice versa. Many times upon meeting a fellow Chicagoan, well ask not what suburb they are from, but whether they are a Cubs fan or Sox fan. And depending on the answer, cheer or groan accordingly. We displaced Chicagoans, who have moved away from the Windy City to the deserts of Las Vegas, have Chicagoans In The Desert, LLC to call upon for sports events, and they are forever neutral, never discriminating against anyone based on North side or South side loyalty.
