Minutes of Meeting 11 03 13 Present: Rob Nance, Nick Tregenza, Carolyn Trevivian, Mike Bott, Richard Thatcher, Helen Eynon 1. Ian Prosser, ORR: coming to meet us, following a phone call from NT (in reply to his negative & & inaccurate letter to us). This will probably be Thu 28.03.13, IP said he will confirm date. NT & MB to attend. Ideally IP would write to CC & say the ORR recommendation was subject to CC gathering further information before coming to its decision. It was not expected to blindly follow. 2. Sarah Young, Law Commission: SY is reviewing the law on rail crossings. NT spoke to her on the phone. She has registered that the law misses the component of the effects on local communities. She asked us to send our information as an example for her report. NT has done this. RN will put this information on our fb page. 3. Police on survey: NT was told that a policeman (we dont know who) handed in a survey form. A discussion ensued as to whether the police might be asked to register their feelings about the closure, following the example of the local ambulance mans email. MB will follow this up. 4. Survey: Preliminary findings are very alarming & clearly show that closure is putting people at increased risk. NT & MB will write to JE, Pete Marsh & councillors explaining this & making it clear that CC would be responsible for any injuries which occurred on the alternative routes. One report of a childs coat getting caught at the level crossing gate & the child dangling in the air from the raised gate. 5. Petition: Now 1209 signatures. RN has sent this to JE. He will also send to Sally Newby, Bert Biscoe, Sue Pass & Sue Nicholas & check what CCs policy is on petitions. 6. Promised statement from CC & NR: In the minutes from the meeting held 29.01.13 last item states Sally Newby would draft a statement to the community. HE wrote to SN on 21.02.13, asking when we could expect to receive this, but has had no reply. HE will email again to remind her. 7. Near Miss definition: NT found a definition that is used for railways, we discussed whether this would apply in the same way to roads, the feasibility of doing a near miss survey on the road to Marazion. To be investigated further. 8. Independent risk assessment: We have not yet found any local independent companies to give quotations about this. CT will seek further advice. 9. John Smith, DfT: CT left voicemail & emailed him, asking for source of his information (that the crossing is likely to close) which he wrote in his letter to us. 10. Coroners Team, Petty France: We are writing to them re the use of rule 43, bringing the Coroner Service into disrepute. HE mentioned a Coroner ruling in a similar case, will email this to the cttee members. 11. Meeting Andrew George, MP: NT & RN are meeting AG, Pz 12.30 Fri 15.03.13, taking copy of JS, Dft letter, Ambulance Service letter, OSS letter, survey & petition. 12. The Cornishman newspaper: Toby Meyjes contacted RN re an article centred on Ambulance Service letter. HE suggested we simply send the letter to Jackie Walls of The Cornishman & ask her to print it verbatim.
