Will you allow her to join show biz, too? Thats not for me to say. I know shes interested in TV hosting. I leave it up to her. Im just here to support her. Considering that youre busy with your three new shows on ABS-CBN (The Biggest Loser, I Dare You and The Voice), how do you manage to squeeze Gretchen in your frenzied sched? I always live by the rule that you will always allot time for things you really want to do. You can never be too busy for people you care for. Gretchen and Robi take time out to be together so it will never be times up for them.
Mistaken Identity
My close friend (daughter of a wellloved show biz icon) feels so bad for her son, who was beaten up by four bodyguards and friends of the son of a high-ranking official in a Quezon City bar on Friday night. It was a case of mistaken identity, my friend sighs. When they learned that he was from a show biz clan, it was too late. My son was already badly bruised. We are still planning what to do.

Al Gaeit, the Assistant of the Undersecretary for Public Rights of the Emirs Office, who met with the Philippine Embassy officials in Riyadh. Binay said Zapantas reprieve begins the day after the deadline set by the victims relatives for the payment of the blood money. Ibig sabihin, dahil ngayon, March 12 ang deadline, matatapos ang tatlong buwang palugit o reprieve sa June 8, 2013, he said. However, the Vice President clarified that the reprieve did not mean that the deadline set for Zapantas family to pay the blood money has also been extended. Binay again thanked King Abdullah for yet another humanitarian gesture. His benevolence has given our kababayan a three-month lease on life, and his family additional time to raise the blood money, he said. We also wish to thank the Emirs Office for their efforts in facilitating the amicable settlement and forgiveness, as well as the extension of the deadlines, allowing the maximum period for the settlement of the amount, Binay added. The Vice President also revealed that President Benigno Aquino and Zapantas mother, Maymona, both wrote King Abdullan on March 9 to ask for his help. Binay said Zapanta and his mother were able to talk on March 10, when the latter, accompanied by Philippine Embassy officials, visited her son in jail. The Vice President reiterated his appeal for help to raise the full amount needed to secure Zapantas freedom.

VICE President Jejomar C. Binay yesterday announced that Joselito Zapanta, the overseas Filipino worker scheduled for execution in Saudi Arabia, has been given a three-month reprieve by the Saudi government. In a press conference at the Coconut Palace, Binay, the Presidential Adviser for OFW Concerns, said that Saudi King Abdullah has given an order to defer the execution of all qizas or death penalty cases in the Arab country, including that of Zapanta.

The hacktivist group, Anonymous Philippines, has hacked the official website of President Aquino to protest his alleged failure to resolve the crisis in Sabah. The intrusion on the Office of the Presidents website, www. president.gov.ph, occurred at around 1:30 am Thursday, forcing the Palace web administrator to temporarily close down the site. Secretary Herminio Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office said they expect to resume public display of the Presidents website in a few hours after needed protection measures have been put in place. At around 1:30 a.m. today, we detected a breach when an errant sentence critical of the government on the Sabah issue was found to have been inserted in one of the news items within the website. No further intrusions were made as the internal security protocols were activated, Coloma said. In a message posted on the website, the hackers criticized the Presidents supposed inaction to prevent the the deaths of several Filipinos in Sabah as well as the rights abuses against women

BB Gandanghari didnt disappoint in Halik ng Tarantula (based on the best-selling novel which inspired the Hollywood movie Kiss of the Spider Woman), mounted over the weekend at the Teatrino (Greenhills, San Juan City) as the first venture of her own production. My friends and I caught the first staging last Thursday, March 7 (last show was on March 9), and although we found it much too long (two hours and a half, excluding the 15-minute intermission) we sat it out until the much-awaited(?) finale when BB as Molina (played by William Hurt in the movie) was locked in a lip service with her leading man, newcomer Jovic Monsod as Valentin (played by the late Raul Julia in the movie). I guess those who were anxiously waiting for the much-ballyhooed passionate nude love scenes (the plays publicity come-on) went home a bit disappointed (bitin), especially since those who watched the press preview the night before were gushing over how BB and her other leading man, Jet Alcantara, went all the way, kissing in gay abandon and stripping to the buff
before the curtain fell. Was the first regular run purposely made more tame because Jovics parents and BBs mom Eva Cario were in the audience? (Said Eva, Ano kaya ang makikita ko? adding in jest, Baka baliw na ako paglabas ko dito. Luckily, she survived the play with her sanity intact.) Newcomer Jovic, who was among the tenants of Big Brother in Pinoy Big Brothers Teen Edition four years ago (When he was 16, said his manager Jonas Gaffud), was a revelation even if he buckled (but only slightly) in some lines. He appeared comfortable onstage and he deserved a pat on the shoulder for having memorized those long lines during the more than two hours that he was onstage with BB. Did the third actor back out because he was intimidated by the challenge of delivering those kilometric dialogues? We cant say anything about Jets performance because we didnt see him. But maybe we would, in case BB staged a repeat as she promised. Three cheers to director Soxie Topacio for his controlled work, despite the fact that he was handling relatively new actors.

Dont Stop Believin: Everymans Journey, the critically-acclaimed Ramona Diaz documentary on the legendary band Journey and the phenomenal rise from obscurity of its Filipino front man Arnel Pineda, is finally on its theatrical release across the United States starting last Friday, March 8, in New York and California and 13 other key markets/cities. After its world premiere at last years Tribeca Film Festival, the crowd-pleasing opus has been anticipated by thousands of Journeys loyal fans who never fail to pack the groups live performances in all 50 states, reported Funfares Big Apple correspondent Edmund Silvestre. It follows the real-life rock n roll fairy tale of Arnel, a former street kid and struggling singer who became the lead vocalist of one of Americas bestselling and well-loved bands after Journey discovered him on where else? YouTube while the band was faced with the dilemma of finding a replacement for its lead singer, Steve Perry, who quit the group. New York-based filmmaker Vincent Ting Nebrida, who is behind the films promotion, said Dont Stop Believin is a must-see among all Filipinos. The fact that an American distributor, Cinedigm, picked it up and is spending for its marketing and distribution, is a huge deal and it says a lot about the quality of the film, Ting told Funfare. When you think about it, the film is about a Filipino talent (Arnel), directed by a Fil-Am filmmaker (Ramona Diaz), made for Filipinos and Americans as well, so it really deserves our total support. Its success can only empower us as a people. The Philippine Consulate General in New York has also been promoting the documentary which the New York Magazine dubbed as one of the most remarkable rock stories of recent years, and the New York Daily News described as winning enough to woo even the staunchest Journey foe. Edmund quoted a Philippine Consulate
statement in an e-mail to the Fil-Am community: Lets empower ourselves by expressing our national pride especially with the recent successes of boxing champ Nonito Donaire and all-time great Manny Pacquiao, NBA coach champ Erik Spoelstra, Miss Universe first runnerup Janine Tugonon, American Idol first runner-up Jessica Sanchez and, of course, our very own Arnel Pineda. Edmund also quoted Consul Zaldy Patron, a self-confessed Journey fan, as saying, The docu is awe-inspiring and absorbing. Youll find yourself rooting for Arnel. His story makes you think that anything is possible under the sun. And youll see why Journey stays on top of its game. The docu, which has won this years Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 24th Palm Springs International Film Festival, is also anticipated in other countries where the illustrious band continues to rule with its timeless hits like Faithfully, Separate Ways, Anyway You Want It, Lights, Wheel In The Sky and Dont Stop Believin still lording over the airwaves. In New York City, the film started screening March 8 at Quad Cinema in Manhattan, Williamsburg Cinemas in Brooklyn, and Sunnyside Center Cinema in Queens. In California, it will be shown at Laemmle NoHo 7 in North Hollywood, AMC Orange 30 (The Block) in Orange, Reading Cinemas Carmel Mountain 12 in San Diego, and Reading Cinemas Gaslamo 15, also in San Diego. Other screenings include Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, Massachusetts; AMC River East 21 in Chicago, Illinois; West End Cinema in Washington D.C.; Gateway Film Center in Columbus, Ohio; Malco Wolfchase Cinema in Memphis, Tennessee; Bowtie Criterion Cinemas at Movieland in Richmond, Virginia; CCA Cinematheque in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Pearlridge West 16 in Aiea, Hawaii; Kapolei 16 in Kapolei, Hawaii; and Tower Theatre in Salt Lake City.

Coco Martin Says Support for Cong. Sonny not for the Money
COCO Martin wants to make it clear that hes not supporting Baler Rep. Sonny Angara for senator because hes being paid. I really believe in his advocacies, lalo na yung tungkol sa providing good education for all and supporting senior citizens, he says. I agreed to tour various schools with him, like Philippine Nomal U and Philippine Womens U. Nakikita ko naman, kahit saan kami magpunta, mainit ang pagtanggap ng tao sa kanya, lalo na ng mga kabataan. Rep. Sonny is really lucky as hes also supported by Sarah Geronimo and, recently, when he dropped by at the location shooting of the indie film, Ekstra, The Bit Player, in Batangas, no less than Gov. Vilma Santos warmly received him as hes the chairman of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education. Gov. Vi even gave him a symbolic giant balisong as Batangas souvenir gift for him.
ALJUR Abrenica is just being candid when he said he felt sad when he didnt have any new show after Coffee Prince that ran only for 8 weeks. Normal naman yung magtampo, di ba? he says. But now, happy na ako kasi nilatag naman ng GMA ang plans nila for me in 2013 and Im pleased with it. Its an honor for me kasi fan ako ni Sen.

WHY SEXY ACTRESS AND HUNK ACTOR BROKE UP
MANY are wondering why a sexy actress and her hunky boyfriend broke up. From a very reliable source, we learned that theyve actually lived in for almost a year. They got to know each other better and, as folks say, familiarity breeds contempt. The hunky actor said hes often taken by surprise by the sudden mood swings of the actress. Happy one moment then depressed and sullen the next. The sexy actress said she cannot put up with her exBFs baboy ways. Lahat ng pinagbihisan niya, iniiwang nakakalat kunsaan-saan, pati mga sapatos at medyas na ang babaho ng amoy, she said. Kaya ayun, hindi ako nakatagal. Split na lang kami.

ABS CBN Foundation Internationals new program ties in environmental protection and ecotourism to alleviate poverty in the Philippines
Redwood City, Calif. (March 11, 2013) Despite being home to lush islands and ocean floors unmatched in biodiversity, the Philippines still finds itself struggling with poverty. The tackling of many social issues have been long-entrusted to ABS CBN Foundation International whose work in the fields of child care and disaster relief made it a global brand for philanthropy. Now expanding its public service, the nonprofit launchesGreenfund Philippines, a 360program that addresses livelihood, environmental protection, education, and sustainability. With a string of successes in pilot locations, it aims to replicate this treatment in multiple provinces and islands around the country. By working towards a green economy to avert the worst consequences of global warming and the degradation of the ecological environment, Greenfund Philippines begins its noble endeavor. We found that in order to provide the optimum environment for growth and wellness of the Filipino child, it was important to provide their families with a means of livelihood that did three things: become a sustainable source of income, utilize and protect our natural resources, and ultimately, restore dignity to the lives of the least among us, said Gina Lopez, founder of ABS-CBN haven for euphoric escape from urban living. In the southwest, Palawan, also known as the Philippines last frontier, boasts of Ugong Rock - an 18 million year old rock formation that is now a destination for spelunking and ziplining. Its Bacungan River, once at the hands of aggressive mangrove cutting now showcases a floating restaurant and river cruise that supports locals, who in turn, safeguard their river.Along a nearby river called Iwahig, families lived in unimaginable destitution until Greenfund Philippines stepped in and helped them form a firefly watching spectacle, replete with paddleboats and visitor centers. This particular model was a breakthrough in ecotourism and earned it the gold award at the Pacific Asia Travel Awards in 2010. Weve seen what we can do on a smaller scale and the impact that it has on the economy, our people, and the environment. Our dream is bold to alleviate poverty but we will do it, one community at a time, says Jo Ann Kyle, Managing Director for ABS CBN Foundation International. Targeted upcoming projects include work in Sibuyan Island in the province of Romblon, tagged as the worlds densest forest and site of 34 discovered waterfalls. The Filipino child remains at the core of the foundations philanthropy. With Greenfund Philippines, their service expands

The Buzz
by Boy Abunda
Masaya talaga.
Ang sarap ng feeling but this really matters a lot because we have such a young population. Natutuwa talaga ako kasi I am still relevant. Pinapanood pa nila ako and natuwa ako sa sinabi na values because you know how to respect other people, pagtatapos ng aktres.
Sana in time ma-realize niya na nandito ako bilang kaibigan, giit pa niya.
Huwag nyo paniwalaan.

Burbank, CA On Thursday, March 7, 2013, the 2nd Annual Queen Lola Pageant was formally re-introduced to the community. Having had tremendous success the previous year, it was only fitting that a pageant dedicated to and in celebration of Filipino grandmothers (lolas) blasts off this Spring 2013. In brief, the Queen Lola pageant was created to be a heartwarming and touching tribute to lolas everywhere. Too many times, lolas are not fully appreciated or recognized for their contributions to society, and more importantly, to our families. The Queen Lola Pageant is simply an opportunity to showcase the lolas skills, talents, capabilities, personalities, and allow each lola to tell their story. During the press conference, the evenings host, Ted Benito, introduced the distinguished panel of the Queen Lola Pageant. With event producers, President/CEO Mildred Deang and SVP/General Counsel Norberto F. Reyes of INSIDER PRODUCTIONS, LLC, alongside veteran actor, comedian, singer, and host of last years pageant, Bernardo Bernardo, they reiterated the mission of the pageant, along with the excitement and the memorable moments from last year. Highlights were then displayed from the photo shoots, landmark visits, talent competition, evening gown competition, the final five, and Bernie Targa-Ganon being crowned the 1st Queen Lola. In addition, a sneak peek of the new Queen Lola commercial

A main feature of the press conference was the reigning Queen Lola 2012, Bernie TargaGanon, again taking center stage to describe her experience during the pageant and how postpageant, her life has truly changed. From the coronation, to the incredible recognition here and in the Philippines, she has truly felt like a Queen. When visiting her home town in the Philippines, a parade was held in her honor, and her float was built for her by supporters in her hometown, with an onslaught of supporters and photographers everywhere she went. This was something she had never experienced before. To close the conference, the panel opened questions from the press. With the thrill and spirit of it all, the Queen Lola 2013 Pageant got off to a rollicking start. The feeling was shared across the room, and many guests clamored for this special event to start the search for the communitys latest spokesperson and role model. The Queen Lola 2013 Pageant is not your typical pageant. It is more about ones heart than beauty. A pageant that will be remembered for a lifetime. Ryzza Mae Dizon, asked what she wanted to have after buying a car: Bahay po sa Fairview! (Gee, little girls used to dream of much less. But aiming highcarry on!)
Heart Evangelista, asked if she and Sen. Chiz Escudero were already talking marriage: No as of now were just enjoying every minute of our lives. (And the fun stops when talk of marriage starts?) Oyo Sotto, asked if he was willing to sit down to dinner with dad Vic and his girlfriend Pauleen Luna: Oo naman. Kita ko naman na happy si Daddy. (Good gauge.) Vic, asked if he paid for Pauleens new house: Wala akong kinalaman diyan! Mayaman ang pamilya niya! (Uh, that doesnt necessarily follow.)
Zsa Zsa Padilla, asked if she planned to sell the Paraaque City house she shared with Dolphy: Sa ngayon hindi pa [although] alog-alog kami doon. Its a big housemedyo malungkot kasi tatlo lang kami. (Take your time.) (Take it easy, mom. How you deal with this is your decision and yours alone.)
Blind ITEMS
Haughty star has wet and wild problem
Heard on the Radyo Inquirer show Kliq Showbiz (dzIQ 990 AM, Monday to Friday, 3 to 5 p.m.): Haughty Star is not well-loved by peers. In fact, HS has incurred the ire of not a few coworkers. So it comes as no surprise that HS is whispered about in the studio because of an embarrassing condition. Under the hot studio lights, HS sweats profusely, particularly under the arms. It is most obvious when HS is wearing a colorful outfit. We suggest HS go after a deodorant commercial. Or Wet Ones.
Sinking ship
Neophyte Insider was unhappy with the way a Pet Project turned out. Although fast friends with PPs producers and stars, NI quit in the middle of production. PP ran into all sorts of problems; NI was probably right to bail out before the ship sank.
Whiff of infamy
Heard on the Radyo Inquirer show Kliq Showbiz (dzIQ 990 AM, Monday to Friday, 3-5 p.m.): Former Matinee Idol had a smelly problem. MI fell in love with screen partner, Cute Girlfriend who was similarly smitten. Romance quickly turned to animosity, however. CG broke up with MI because she couldnt stand his body odor. MIs other girlfriends couldnt bear the stench, either. Only one Brave Woman prevailed. Now happily married, MI must thank his lucky stars that BW seems to have a chronic case of sinusitis.
Playgirl
BBs nephew Raprap Padilla on Halik: Medyo shocking. Pero BB na BB na si Tita BB! (Could you be a little more emphatic?) Gretchen Barretto, asked if she was still dreaming of marrying longtime partner Tony Boy Cojuangco: Yun ang ini-expect ng tao sa kultura natin. Pero Ive come to a point in my life na Tony has [proven] his love for methat is more than enough. (Not nearly the same, but good for you.) Daniel Padilla, asked by Kathryn Bernardo what he wanted for his birthday: Gusto ko ng shoes ay, bass guitar na lang pala! (Yes, we saw this, and it was embarrassing especially because, in return, Kathryn asked Daniel for a Louis Vuitton bag for her birthday. That was after much goading from the two adult host-interviewers: This is your chance; were on national TVhe has to deliver. What was that about?!) All sorts of nasty talk have been hounding Beautiful Starlet. Not a few insiders have pointed out that she is an incorrigible flirt. A spy insists that BS fooled around with a slew of costarsincluding Popular Hunk and Closet Cutie. She just doesnt discriminate. BS also seduced Handsome Insider, a high-ranking member of the production team. Problem is, HI is engaged to Haughty Star. (See above.)
Bloated
Talented Performers ego has ballooned bigger than his fan base, says a mole. Making matters worse, TPs HighFlying Manager has likewise become very demanding. Local producers are being turned off by the duos overbearing ways. No one wants to hire TP because HMs asking price is too steep. TP should really consider dumping HM now. Humility goes a long way in the biz.
Krista Kleiner on why she and Jay-R broke up: The relationship was getting a little bit abusive. (Before it became really abusive?)
Scandal pays
Remember Scandalous Starlet, who got a hefty talent fee for baring all in a TV show? Well, she milked her 15 minutes of notoriety and ended up wangling a meaty role in a prestigious production. We hear the role is that of a woman of ill repute. Someone close to an enemy of SS quipped: Why are girls like SS rewarded for their misdeeds when they should be chased out of town? Ouch.
Max Collins, asked how Pahiram ng Sandali changed her life: Dati kapag nasa labas ako, sasabihin ng mga tao Uy, si ano! Pero now, they know my name. (A name is certainly a step up from ano. But next time they should at least be saying: Uy, si anomagaling yan!) Marjorie Barretto, asked if she was okay with daughter Julia falling in love at 16: I told her huwag muna ma-in love talaga kasi ang daming puwedeng mangyari at makakapigil lang ang love na yan di ba? (Cautionary tales galore. You gotta be more convincing, mom.)
Million-peso has-been
From the Inquirer tabloid Bandera: Hunky Star has been raising wellplucked brows in the gay community. Wealthy Benefactor asked HS out on a date. HS quoted a mind-boggling sixfigure talent fee for one night. Without missing a beat, WB agreed and took out HS. Twice. So HS laughed all the way to the bankwith almost P2 million! HS is no spring chicken and sourgraping insiders believe WB had overpaid him.
Addicted to love
Picked up from the Inquirer tabloid Bandera: Pretty Starlet is addicted to boys. According to a mole, PS found the perfect partner in Hot Hunk, whos similarly hooked. The new playmates have been spending an inordinate amount of time in the boudoir, defying friends and fans who are against their affair. PS didnt even think twice about turning her back on Close Buddy, to be with HH. @TheFilamInsider www.facebook.com/filaminsider

The Bride and the Lover. Alls well that ends well.
Cynthia Villar at Sen.

The L.A. area is also home to Kababayan L.A., the news channel that for quite a while now has been doing an amazing job of highlighting Pinoy culture. Hosted by the incomparable and multitalented Jannelle So, the daily news program has filled a huge gap in the coverage of Pinoy artistic and cultural goings-on in the Greater L.A. area. Kababayan L.A. continues to be the go-to program for Pinoy artists, organizations and businesses when they want to promote their works. You havent made it if you havent made it to Kababayan L.A. And speaking of championing Pinoy culture, L.A. is also home to Ruben Nepales. Nepales, who chairs the board of no less than the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (the organization behind the Golden Globe awards), has earned the respect of Filipinos worldwide for the reporting hes done on Filipino newsmakers in Hollywoodand theres quite a few of them, whether stars or movie industry professionals. Nepales writes one of the most popular columns in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Only in Hollywood, through which he does his reporting on not only Hollywoods biggest starssuch as Nicole Kidman, Sacha Baron Cohen, Russel Crowe and Quentin Tarantino, just to name those hes interviewed recentlybut also up-and-coming names such as Vanessa Hudgens, Darren Criss and Hailee Steinfeld, who all have ties to the Philippines. PISCES (Feb. 20-Mar. 20) Its time for a fresh start! Clean up loose ends and stand up and be counted. When news at work is revealed, be quick to take advantage of an opportunity perfect for you, but doublecheck the details, mixups can happen over this period. With love planet Venus in your sign, get ready to be romanced. AQUARIUS (Jan. 21 -Feb. 19) Your sharp wit, insider knowledge, and desire to get the job done make an impressive mark on someone whos been watching you closely. Others begin to see your true worth. With love, recognize its ok to be vulnerable and show your softer side now and again. If you open up to whatif, you could very well be lucky in love. ARIES (Mar. 21- Apr. 20) You are a month away from entering a new positive phase, and this is an exciting time when you can start to feel in tune with life and whats on the drawing board for your future. Over this next year, you can see some of your goals materialize. You are on a journey and its important to enjoy the ride. TAURUS (Apr. 21- May 21) To attract what your inner heart desires, visualize what you want in detail and take action to make it happen. Mercury is retrograde, which makes it a good time to research and get plans in place. With love, dont let past drama cloud your future. GEMINI (May 22-June 21) Influential contacts are like gold. You can be in the right place at the right time for chance meetings to gain headway at work. With an official matter, be clear with discussions; say whats on your mind, but speak from the heart. CANCER (June 22-July 22) Create a keyplan to move forward with work. Changes may not shift as fast as you would like, but they will happen, and likely to happen suddenly. Use your strengths to impress those who count. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic, keep working towards your goals. On the love scene, a realization of who you are and the type of person you want in a relationship becomes clear. LEO (July 23-Aug 22) Have faith in your ability at work, self confidence is a winning formula and right now you need to believe in yourself. A sound idea has the potential to make you a star player. If love and money are up for discussion, tread carefully; dont let a petty issue spoil something wonderful. VIRGO (Aug. 23 -Sept. 23) The connection vibe is strong in your life, theres a new start and social gatherings can introduce you to some fascinating people. However, be careful of taking your honey for granted, best to keep them in the loop so they know what is going on. Give one hundred and ten percent at work to rise above everyone else. Your sheer determination will show through. You will be fortunate now, be positive, but be aware that Mercury the communication planet is still Retrograde, so dont assume anything. SCORPIO (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) When passions run high with love, be careful of what you say. You dont want to make promises you cant keep. With work, a series of events move you closer to finding out what your real mission in life is and motivate you to achieve your career goals. If you are waiting on an important answer, it can go your way, but it could be delayed. SAGITARIUS (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21) Express your feelings to open up communications between you and another, but make sure your words and actions are the same. Make time for yourself and set time aside to spend with those you love. If your career takes precedence over everything, recognize theres more to life than desks and deals. CAPRICORN (Dec 22.- Jan. 20) If you must listen to gossip around the watercooler, remember, not everything you hear will be accurate; some of it is just scandalous chitchat. Dont get dragged in to someone elses drama, do your own digging to find out the truth. Business news looks positive, particularly with a creative venture. @TheFilamInsider www.facebook.com/filaminsider
