1.

What achievement has had most impact in developing skills or characteristics that you are proud of? (What was the achievement, what aspects did it help you develop and how?)

In my tenure with Tata consultancy services, I had the opportunity to lead a team in a project called the Auto Model Refresh. It was a team of 8, and it was a crucial project in terms of the technical criticality involved. It was my first corporate leadership experience and hence I faced a lot of challenges like organizing the work, getting the work done by my team members, status reporting, client communications etc. It was undoubtedly one of the best learning experiences of my life. I learnt how to motivate people to get the work done, how to communicate with clients in a positive yet honest way, how to manage a project and on the whole how to be a good leader, a skill that I am proud of. The achievement was that my team was awarded the "Team of Excellence" award for being consistently on a green status and also for the smooth and successful launch of the project.
2. Give an example of when you motivated others to achieve more than might have been the case without your contribution.

As said above, when I took lead of the team, there were a lot of challenges involved. One of them was the absenteeism of my team members. It was a team of 8, but unfortunately, 3 of my teammates were on medical leave. We requested our delivery head for additional resources but he was able to provide us with only one resource. As a result, when the project moved on, my team members started sharing the burden and were not able to achieve daily targets. I had to react to the situation as the project started moving into a yellow status. I organised a team meeting and motivated my team members. I made them realize that we had to do this just for a month after which our friends were going to be back. I personally reported the amount of work that was being done in the Team to my top management and how the team members were doing the work of two more resources. This won my teammates "The Life-Saver Award", which further motivated them. All this brought my project into the green status and we started achieving day to day targets
3. Describe a difficult decision you had to make, how you went about it and say whether you would do anything differently in future situations.

I was offered to take up a Business Analyst role in a project called NC auto. Business analyst is a role that demands high managerial and analytical skills. It is a position that is normally given to a resource with 5 years experience but I was offered the role as my managerial and communication abilities were spotted within my first year in the organisation. It was a difficult decision for me to take up as I had no prior experience as a BA. I still decided to take up the role due to my penchant for management and leadership. I also stood by this decision as I had learnt the nuances of the role through my close interactions with Business consultants and also through the knowledge that I had gained during my training period. The project was a grand success and I made the business analyst for forthcoming projects in the similar domain. If I were faced with a similar situation in future, I would still decide to take up challenging roles with great zeal and passion. 4. Give an example of when you set yourself a difficult goal, kept going in the face of difficulties and had to make personal sacrifices. What was the outcome? What might you do differently next time?

My first project in my corporate life was "PIBS". It was a project for the Liberty Mutual Insurance, USA. It was a project that needed a direct interaction with clients and also a deep understanding of the domain. The higher level management still chose me even though I was a fresher as I had good interactions with the clients through my musical performances at the client visit. The project required a lot of understanding and hence it took a lot of time for me to get into a good position in the project, which pushed the project into a red status.

I wrote a mail to my clients that explained my day to day goals and plans that would pull the project back into a good form. These goals had a lot of demands for which I had to work more than 14 hours a day. As a result of this, I was suffering from Insomnia. After a month of hard work and personal sacrifices, I met the goal and the project bounced back into a green state. I received a number of appreciation mails from the clients and TCS awarded me the "Applause" for the hard work and way I came back into the project. Though, the awards made me happy with the way I came back from a difficult position, the lesson I learnt was to properly plan my work and learn the tasks quickly before the commencement of a project so that the project would be smooth throughout and which in turn would lead to a good work-life balance.
Describe an idea you had that was not immediately accepted by others. How did you try to convince them? What was the outcome?

Hailing from a family of Musicians and also being a reputed Mridangam Artist, I was conferred with a title "Padma Kiran". This attracted many students for learning the art from me. I made a decision to build a Music school with around 10 disciplines like Dance, Instruments, Vocal music etc. I had to face a lot of negative criticism for this idea from my family and friends as it involved a lot of financial risk. But, I had a vision that if there is quality in the music preached and if there is a good ambience for learning the art, there would be more than 200 students in one year. I was confident with my decision of establishing a school because most of the families in my locality were sending their children to Music schools that were far away. I made a mental estimate that even if took a loan of 5 lakhs, I would be able to repay it in less than 2 years time, as there would be around 400-450 students. I also had a back plan that even if my estimates about the school failed, I would still easily be in a good position to pay-off my through my income from TCS and to keep fighting to get my school back, thus fulfilling my dreams. I made a clear plan that involved building additional floors for the school, financial arrangements, facing the risks involved etc and elaborated the plan to my family and friends. My clarity in vision and the clear plans convinced them and we thereby started the school and named it "Ravindran Academy of Music (RAM) ". Proudly, RAM now has around 500 students now spread over 20 disciplines. (www.ravindranacademyofmusic.com).
