Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; By the time you read this, we may have a new Pope! The Conclave begins today (Tuesday). Hopefully, it wont be long before we see white smoke. While the news media swirls around the Vatican wondering what wheeling and dealing might be going on in the sequestered Conclave, I wonder what it must be like to take seriously the task of choosing the next Pope. (For myself, I am often befuddled by which side dish to choose at a restaurant or which wrench to use when I am attempting to fix something!). The challenges before and within the Church are many today. What kind of disciple needs to be called forward to lead the Church in the name of Jesus? No easy answer, and every time I hear an easy answer, I am reminded of the weighty responsibility given to the Cardinals to make that decision. But just perhaps, this is the best time to call upon the Holy Spirit for guidance and inspiration!! We begin the march into Jerusalem next week beginning with Palm Sunday. Beginning that Holy Week, I ask you to pray for all of your priests as we recommit ourselves to Christ and his Church at our Chrism Mass celebrated by our new Bishop Kevin Vann. We are drawn around the table of the Lamb on Holy Thursday with an evening bilingual liturgy and on Good Friday we gather around the cross at noon followed in the evening by special liturgies at St. Edward as well as San Felipe Chapel. The church then stands silent as we prepare for the great Vigil Liturgy on Holy Saturday night followed by the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Please be sure to keep your schedule from the bulletin close at hand or go to our website, www.stedward.com as well as our new app to check our current schedule. Finally, thank you for your generosity to the Diocesan Pastoral Services Appeal this past year. Because of your efforts, our parish was rebated just over $20,000. As I promised last year, the monies were directed to our Christian Service and St. Vincent de Paul ministries, as well as Tijuana Outreach Ministry and iHOPE. Thank you again for your gifts so that we are able to bless others in need. Together in Christ

Rasgos de Gracia

Para cuando hayan ledo esto, es probable que tengamos Papa! El Conclave comenz hoy martes. Esperemos que no sea mucho tiempo el que tengamos que esperar para ver humo blanco. Mientras que los medios de comunicacin dan vueltas y vueltas alrededor del Vaticano tratando de averiguar quin ser el prximo Papa. Yo me pregunto; Que difcil tarea debe ser el tener que elegir al prximo Papa? (Pues a menudo me cuesta trabajo elegir el platillo que quiero comer en un restaurante o que herramienta debo usar cuando estoy tratando de arreglar algo!). Los desafos que hay que enfrentar en la Iglesia son muchos en estos tiempos. Qu clase de discpulo es llamado al frente para dirigir la Iglesia en nombre de Jess? No hay respuesta fcil, y cada vez que escucho una respuesta fcil, me viene a la mente el cargo tan importante dado a los cardenales para tomar esa decisin. Por eso, este es el mejor momento para invocar al Espritu Santo para que sea nuestro gua e inspiracin! La prxima semana Iniciamos la entrada del Seor a Jerusaln con el Domingo de Ramos. Al comenzar la Semana Santa, les pido que oren por todos los sacerdotes que nos comprometemos a Cristo nuevamente y a su Iglesia con la Misa del Santo Crisma celebrada por nuestro Obispo Kevin Vann. Seremos llamados a participar el Jueves Santo alrededor de la mesa del Cordero, con una liturgia bilinge en la noche y el Viernes Santo al medioda nos reunimos alrededor de la cruz seguida por la liturgia de la palabra en San Eduardo, as como en la Capilla de San Felipe. La iglesia se encuentra entonces en silencio, mientras nos preparamos para la Vigilia Pascual la noche del Sbado de Gloria seguido por la celebracin del Domingo de Pascua. Asegrese de tener su boletn a la mano para mantenerse informado de todos los horarios o ir a nuestro sitio web, www.stedward.com o use nuestra nueva aplicacin para ver el calendario actual. Por ltimo, gracias por su generosidad con los Servicios Pastorales Diocesanos el ao pasado. Gracias a sus esfuerzos, nuestra parroquia tuvo un reembolso de poco ms de $ 20,000. Como promet el ao pasado, los fondos se destinaron a nuestro Servicio Cristiano y al ministerio de San Vicente de Paul, as como el Ministerio de Tijuana y iHope. Gracias de nuevo por sus donaciones y poder bendecir a otros en necesidad. Juntos en Cristo;

Pbro. Steve Sallot Prroco

What is lamentation? It is a human response to pain, a crying out to God in faith until help arrives. Lamentation is found throughout Scripture and is focused on human suffering and injustice as a continuation of Christs suffering. We come together to lament with anyone who is suffering from pain or loss, anyone who stands with others who are suffering, anyone who feels the pain and suffering of the world. Our purest response is hope, love and compassion which in turn empower us to be agents of change for Christ in the transformation of the world. This will be a truly memorable evening, full of music, readings, images and places to weep over the injustices and absurdities of life. Please join us.
