While FGUS diligently works to fund a variety of specific programs that address the needs of all GUSD students, this past year the Foundation began a new program to support the unique needs of each school. To this purpose, ten percent ($45,000) of all funds raised last year was distributed among the nine schools in the District. The allocation was as follows:
Cullen Elementary La Fetra Elementary Sellers Elementary Stanton Elementary Sutherland Elementary $4500 $4500 $4500 $4500 $4500 Goddard Middle Sandburg Middle Glendora High Whitcomb High $6750 $6750 $8100 $900

Donation to your schools

Goddard: Funds are being used for a project to assist Goddard in going wireless. Sandburg: Funds are being used for upgraded computers in the library lab.

These funds are spent at the discretion of each schools leadership groups. Below is a summary of how each school spent their donation. Cullen: Funds are being used to purchase nonfiction texts which support the common core. La Fetra: Funds are being used to bring WiFi into the cafeteria for presentations and family workshops; purchasing three projectors (one for the cafeteria and two in classrooms); the Imagination Machine Assembly for students which promotes writing and performing arts, and materials to promote a college-going culture. Sellers: Funds are being used for a school-wide, technologybased, reading intervention program. It is planned to use the remainder of the funds for keyboarding programs, especially for kindergarten through second grade in preparation for the new STAR testing program, Smarter Balance, which will be completely computer based and require improved keyboarding skills. Stanton: Funds are being used for technology, including a Smart Board, document camera, projectors, and mounting equipment. Sutherland: Funds are being used to purchase a wireless unit which will enable teachers online access in the office, and stretch to the surrounding classrooms and library. This will give teachers and students additional access to Accelerated Reader, Study Island, etc.

GHS: Funds are being used for technology, including Smart Boards and fifteen document cameras. WHS: Funds are being used to purchase approximately ten Kindles, which will be loaded with classics and other important books. These will be made available to students to check out from the library. As you can see, these funds were used to satisfy the unique needs of each school to improve the educational experience of our students. Thanks for your support in making this possible!

The Foundation Impact!

The Whole Child
Michelle Hunter recently shared the impact were making on the whole child: The Foundation has been instrumental in supporting the District in developing the whole child. They have worked with the District to maintain current programs, while building new ones. Their commitment to help fund teachers positions that would have been cut as a result of the fiscal crisis, allowed the District to maintain smaller classes and continue the strong academic focus. Glendora Unified continues to be one of the top performing districts in the state. In addition, the Foundation has funded the elementary music program for the last several years, a program every fourth & fifth grade student experiences, whether it be vocal or instrumental, keeping the Arts in the forefront of the balanced educational program in GUSD. Finally, thanks to the Foundation and its volunteers, several Healthy Kids programs have been implemented throughout the District, including programs such as Nutrition Detectives and the Kinder hand washing program. The Foundation with the District recognize the importance of building a balanced educational program.

Nutrition Detective
FGUS Nutrition Detective Program kicked off in January across all second grade classes. The program concludes in May and teaches children how to make healthy food choices, in particular, by learning how to read food labels! Christy Jones, the Program Coordinator, emphasizes 3 key things: Limiting Sugar, Importance of Vegetables, & Drinking Water. The students are having a great time learning how to make healthy food choices, and families are finding the provided materials informative. Thank you to the gracious volunteers who make this valuable program possible!

Presidents Message
Its unbelievable how quickly the school year has gone by. Spring break is just around the corner! This means the Foundations biggest fund raiser Food for Thought is on the horizon. We hope you join us for the gala on 4/26. All funds raised go toward supporting our students!

Thank you, Mike Beckman President, FGUS

Business Improvement District (BID) Donates to FGUS

On February 9, 2013, nearly 900 guests attended the 4th Annual Glendora Wine Walk, held by the Business Improvement District (BID). This event, held on Glendora Avenue each year, continues to grow and provide funds for the BID. On March 8, 2013, the BID presented the Foundation for Glendora Unified Schools (FGUS) with a check for $1,000. FGUS also provided volunteers the night of the event.

Fgus Provides Senior Scholarships

Since 2011, The Foundation has been providing scholarships to high school seniors. FGUS will continue this tradition by providing $500 scholarships to several deserving seniors at both Glendora High School and Whitcomb High School this year. At GHS, two scholarships are available: Performance-based & Initiativebased, while Whitcombs scholarship is determined by the WHS scholarship committee.
