BUILDING A LEGACY: FULFILLMENT OF PROMISES!

THE KEY TEXT

o Genesis 26:23-33 ESV 1. FULFILLMENT = GODS PROMISES & PROVISION RENEWED! A) THE FULFILLMENT OF GODS PRESENCE!

VERSE 24a - And the Lord appeared to him the same night
Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) - "The enjoyment of [God] is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of earthly friends are but shadows, but enjoyment of God is the substance. These are but scattered beams, but God is the sun. These are but streams, but God is the fountain. These are but drops, but God is the ocean."

B) THE FULFILLMENT OF GODS PROMISES REAFFIRMED!

VERSE 24 b and said, I am the God of Abraham your father. Fear not, for
I am with you and will bless you and multiply your offspring for my servant Abrahams sake. Emil Brunner, Swiss theologian (18891966) What oxygen is to the lungs, such is hope to the meaning of life.

C) THE FULFILLMENT OF WORSHIP AND REST

VERSE 25 - 25 So he built an altar there and called upon the name of the Lord
and pitched his tent there.

D) THE FULFILLMENT OF COVENANT PROMISE RESOURCES

VERSES 25b & 32-33 - And there Isaacs servants dug a well32 That same
day Isaacs servants came and told him about the well that they had dug and said to him, We have found water. 33 He called it Shibah; therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.

2. FULFILLMENT = HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS RESTORED! A) THE FULFILLMENT OF THE WITNESS OF GOD WITH US!

VERSES 28a & 29b - 28 They said, We see plainly that the Lord has been
with you You are now the blessed of the Lord.

FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST ARE THE FRAGRANCE OF CHRIST! 2 Corinthians

2:15-16 ESV -

B) THE FULFILLMENT OF COVENANT PEACE

VERSE 28 b- 29 - So we said, let there be a sworn pact between us, between you
and us, and let us make a covenant with you, 29 that you will do us no harm, just

as we have not touched you and have done to you nothing but good and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of the Lord. CHRIST HAS MADE PEACE BETWEEN PEOPLE THROUGH THE CROSS Ephesians 2:14-16 ESV -

C) THE FULFILLMENT OF FEASTS OF PEACE!

VERSE 30 - 30 So he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. 31 In the
morning they rose early and exchanged oaths. And Isaac sent them on their way, and they departed from him in peace.
