National Annex to Eurocode 6: Design of masonry structures Part 1-1: General rules for reinforced and unreinforced masonry structures
_______________________________________________________________________

Foreword
In connection with the incorporation of Eurocodes into Danish building legislation to replace the Danish structural codes of practice, this National Annex was prepared in 2006-2007 to implement Eurocode 6 in Denmark.

Scope
This National Annex lays down the conditions for the implementation of the Eurocode.

Contents
This National Annex specifies the national choices prescribed in Denmark. The national choices may be in the form of nationally applicable values, an option between methods given in the Eurocode, or the addition of supplementary guidance. This National Annex addresses: Clauses where national choices have been made; All clauses where national choices have been possible; Bibliography: Overview of all National Annexes prepared.

Clauses where national choices have been made

2.4.3 Ultimate limit states (1)P The following partial factors for materials apply in Denmark for the ultimate limit state: Table 2.4.3.a - Assumed types of failure for the determination of 1 Structures in situ Compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of masonry Units of Category I Units of Category II Compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of reinforced masonry Flexural strength of masonry Strength of reinforcement and modulus of elasticity1) Bond strength of reinforcement1) Cohesion Friction coefficients Prefabricated elements Calculation Compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of masonry Units of Category I Units of Category II Compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of reinforced masonry Flexural strength of masonry Strength of reinforcement and modulus of elasticity1) Performance testing Ductile failure2) Brittle failure
NOTE 1 - Reinforcement, wall ties and other embedded, built-in or drilled-in anchors. NOTE 2 - Elements are assumed to exhibit ductile failure if one of the following conditions is fulfilled: it can be demonstrated that the reinforcement yields in the ultimate limit state; failure results in an evenly distributed crack pattern in the failure zone expected for the actual action failure due to bending occurs where deflection of the element exceeds 3/200 of the span; Other failure modes are regarded as brittle failures. Failure of elements subject to axial forces should always be assumed to be brittle.

The partial factors given in Table 2.4.3a are based on the guidelines for determining partial factors in the ultimate limit state according to the National Annex to EN1990, where M = 1234. 1: takes into account the type of failure 2: takes into account the uncertainty related to the design model Page 2 of 7

3: takes into account the inspection level for factory-made mortar and mortar mixed on site (see Table 3.4.3.c) 4: takes into account the variation of the strength parameter/measured resistance. When determining 1 the types of failure given in Table 2.4.3.b has been assumed. Table 2.4.3.c indicates values of 3 depending on inspection levels. For masonry structures, the combinations of consequences classes and inspection levels marked + in Table 2.4.3.d should be used.

(3) For ultimate limit state design, the lower characteristic value is the 5th percentile and the upper characteristic value the 95th percentile. ? (4)P Partial factors for materials shall be taken as M = 1,0 for accidental limit states. 2.4.4 Serviceability limit states (1) Partial factors for materials should be taken as M = 1,0 for serviceability limit states. 3.6.1.2 (1) Characteristic compressive strength of masonry other than shell bedded masonry (1) Method (i) in EN1996-1-1 may be used provided that documentation for the parameters of equation 3.1 is given. Method (ii) may be used without further documentation. 6.1.2.2(2) Reduction factor for slenderness and eccentricity The slenderness ratio c should be taken as: c = 27. 8.5.2.2(2) Cavity walls, veneer walls and double-leaf walls (2) The minimum number of ties connecting the two leaves of a cavity wall, a veneer wall and its backing wall or the two leaves of a double-leaf wall, should be taken as n = 2 per m2 of the considered wall area. If the walls are used as combined walls where wind actions are distributed evenly between the walls depending on the wall stiffnesses, the number of ties should be at least n = 4 per m2, and they should be evenly distributed.
