EN The story of Nsal Cheese The story of Nsal Cheese began in the old times when the aga region was under the rule of a rich and powerful landlord, perhaps from the Roman times. One day some courageous peasants broke the rules and stole some pieces of cheese from the master as they had become very poor. They were only eating polenta (a mixture made from boiling water, salt and corn flour) and this time they wanted to offer their children a bit more to eat. But as they were afraid to be caught by the masters guards, they hid the cheese in a cave at the edge of the Nsal village. They were terribly frightened by their masters revenge and they didnt dare to take the cheese out of the cave. However, some weeks later, one of the peasants built up his courage and entered the cave to check the cheese which he thought would be rotten by then. But surprised he was when he found the cheese was not spoilt. The cheese was starting to get a bit reddish from its initial pale yellow but it tasted better than he expected despite its unpleasant smell. Eventually the landlord discovered the peasants secret and punished them. But he also began to keep his cheese in the cave and it became one of the things which he was very proud of to impress his guests. This is the story of Nsal cheese which competes with the renowned French Camembert and it can be tasted by everyone in the western part of Romnia.

Povestea brnzei de Nsal ncepe demult, pe vremea cnd inutul de la aga era sub stpnirea unui nobil puternic i bogat. Este posibil chiar de pe vremea romanilor. ntr-o bun zi, civa rani mai curajoi, au nesocotit poruncile stpnului i au luat din caul lui pentru c erau foarte sraci. Mncau doar mmlig (un amestec din ap fiart, sare i mlai) i au vrut s mai pun ceva pe mas pentru copii. Dar pentru c nu vroiau s fie surprini, au ascuns caul n grota din apropierea satului Nsal. nspimntati de rzbunarea stpnului, n cazul n care ar fi aflat, ranii nu s-au grbit s-i ia caul din peter. Totui, dup cteva sptmni, unul dintre ei i-a luat inima-n dini i a intrat n peter s vad ce mai e cu brnza., convins c va gsi caul stricat. Mare i-a fost mirarea cnd l-a gsit n stare bun. Brnza i schimbase doar culoarea ntr-un glbui roiatic, ns era foarte bun la gust, n ciuda mirosului. n cele din urm, stpnul a aflat de isprava ranilor i i-a pedepsit pe nelegiui. Apoi ns, a nceput el nsui s-i in brnza n peter i aceasta a devenit unul dintre lucrurile cu care i plcea s-i impresioneze oaspeii. Aceasta este povestea brnzei de Nsal care concureaz cu renumitul Camembert franuzesc i care poate fi gustat n Romnia, n partea de vest a rii.
