1. Curriculum Standards Addressed: Standard K-2: The students will begin to read and comprehend a variety of informational texts in print and non-print formats. ELA-4K-2.3: Relate information from texts to personal experience. 2. Cross Curricular Connections: Art will be integrated into this lesson. The students will paint their own picture of a cloud. 3. Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: When read the book, Little Cloud, students will be able to successfully connect the pictures the cloud made in the story to what pictures they see in clouds in the sky. 4. Assessment(s) of the Objectives: Students will be assessed first in whole group. I will ask the question Have you ever seen a cloud make a picture in the sky? I will have a check list that I will use to write what the students say. I will give Mrs. Shelley/Mrs. Tuck a copy as well so they can write what they hear as well. Students will also be assessed in small group time and by their painting of a cloud. I will have a check list for students during small group time and will check them off after they tell me what picture they have seen a cloud make. While they are painting, I will question students to see if they understand what it is that they are to be doing. Questions like, What are you painting? I am looking for an answer that reflects that they know that they are painting a picture of a picture a cloud can make. During this I will have a check list that I will be marking them off on. 5. Materials/Resources: 1. The book, Little Cloud 2. Blue construction paper 3. Shaving cream 4. Glue (Shaving cream and glue make puffy 5. Paint brush paint ) 6. Easel

6. Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge): Standard K-1: The student will begin to read and comprehend a variety of literary texts in print and non-print formats. Students will also need to know what a cloud is. 7. Procedures: 1. Students will gather on the rug.

2. I will ask the students, Have you ever seen a cloud make a picture in the sky? (Has visto una nube que una imagen en el cielo?) 3. I will read the book, Little Cloud to the students. 4. After the first couple pages of the book, I will ask the students to name what the picture is on the page before I read it. 5. After I get done reading the book, I will break students into small groups. 6. I will have two small groups that I will work with one at a time. 7. The other two small groups will be doing the same thing with either Mrs. Shelley or Mrs. Tuck. 8. The students who are in the second set of small groups will sit next to my/Mrs. Shelleys/Mrs. Tucks small group reading until it is time to switch. 9. When students are meeting at the kidney table with me, I will explain to them what there activity is that goes along with the book. 10. I will start by asking, Do you remember what the book was about that we read this afternoon? 11. Once the students have a chance to answer, I will ask them again, Have you ever seen a cloud make a picture in the sky? (Has visto una nube que una imagen en el cielo?) 12. I will give each student a chance to tell me what it was that they saw a cloud make. 13. Once each student has had a chance to answer, I will explain to them what activity they will be doing that goes along with the book. 14. I will tell them that they are going to be able to paint me a picture of what they have seen a cloud make. 15. I will show the students my picture so they will have an example. 16. Once I have explained the activity to the students, I will dismiss them and call over the next small group. 17. I will repeat steps 6-13 with every small group until I have met with every student. 18. Students will then be able to come to the easel two at a time to paint their picture. 19. I will be standing at the easel to help any students with the paint and to question them about what they are painting. 20. This activity may take more than just one day. 21. Once each student has completed their cloud painting, they will be hung on the wall outside the classroom. 8. Accommodations: 1. For the Spanish speaking students in my class, I will ask the question, Have you ever seen a cloud make a picture in the sky? in both English and Spanish when the students are on the rug together and in small group. 9.
